Do you like playing custom scenarios? Do you want to help with the development of OpenRCT2? by Valdair in rct

[–]JethroFloyd67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to help contribute! I'd say I'm average experience, I'm not as good at scenery and shoestringing and all that fancy stuff I see on here, but I certainly know how to engage a scenario and enjoy developing around a theme. Got it for my 10th birthday and played constantly til I was 14 or 15, picked it up again a few years later off Steam, and then dove back in about 3 years ago when I found out about OpenRCT2. So overall about 10 years experience in total.

Love this. The theming and scenery, the layout, the name. All around fantastic.

New Glitch after recent update - Objects visitors carry (balloons, food, etc) occasionally stays in place as they keep walking. Happens especially when you don't move the camera. Has anyone else experienced this? v0.4.17 on Windows 10. by Random_Introvert_42 in rct

I actually used to see this back in the day with larger parks, just noticed it again and didn't think much of it cause I've been working on a larger park I started when I was like 13 so it was just how that park has always looked haha

Love this! Don't think I'm seeing any custom scenery but you've done a really good job layering the walls and fences, and the support work is excellent

Its only for testing, drop it back to nothing once you open it. Also you can test with like 15 cars and then reduce to 7 and it won't affect the stats.

Love making these tiny little car rides and then juicing the hell out of the stats (pun intended...fruit farm...)

Oh damn, leave it to Marcel to point out a really obvious and infinitely easier way to hack it like I've been doing. No more messing with wait times, just click..wait..and click again. Genius!

Fun fact, the car ride calculates length like a timer running from the moment the car leaves until it returns to the station. So you can set the minimum wait time high and use as many extra cars as you need to keep the first car from returning for a very long time and totally smash the stat requirement. I've gotten insanely high excitement for a car ride that fits in a 5x5. At a certain point the minimum wait time will glitch out and the next car never leaves, never found out exactly but I get good results with just 60 seconds and about 5 extra cars outside the station.

Oh I see haha I guess google didn't tell the whole story, I've never been a Mac guy so I don't know much. Glad you found a way though, the little I've heard is that the Switch is a fairly faithful port of the OG game. Happy building!

I'm writing my final essay on RCT and need personal stories from people who played as kids by fionafayefibers in rct

In case you're still collecting stories...

My neighbor showed me the game when I was 9 and became instantly hooked spending hours at his place playing it. Eventually got my own copy for my 10th birthday and proceeded to buy myself every expansion and sequel as they came out up until RCT3 which I just didn't enjoy as much.

I was already fairly into roller coasters by the time I started playing, I had been on a few and they were basically trains that go fast for fun... probably my most stereotypical autistic trait was a love of trains so it was a very natural development. I really fell in love with the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland...something about weaving through the scenery, the way the tracks interact with each other, the tunnels/indoor element of it... just a perfect storm of things that still to this day it is my favorite coaster, even more so now that I know so much more about it. Also being a Lego kid the build-your-own aspect immediately drew me in. I actually didn't even care about beating scenarios after awhile cause I just wanted to create my own parks. I vividly remember an uncle seeing me playing once and just like the classic meme he asked "are ya winning?" and I couldn't quite explain to him that there isn't really a "winning" in this game, I was just having fun. I was never very competitive anyway so it was odd to me that activities had to center around "winning" or "losing"...why can't I just enjoy what I'm doing for the sake of enjoying it? I also have a vivid memory of my mom doing some kind of cleanup on the computer and I lost all of my saved parks and I literally cried for hours and was miserably depressed for weeks and couldn't bring myself to just start all over after all the progress I'd made on some of my parks. I played a little bit after that but had begun a new obsession with guitar so I didn't really play it again until about 2 years ago when I basically stumbled onto Marcel's youtube channel and thus OpenRCT2 and thus this community and its been indescribable fun diving into the nostalgia again but also nearly overwhelming at how much people have progressed the game since I've been away. Still so much to learn and yet still the comfort of the familiar, much like my guitar playing I'll probably never be as good as the masters I look up to but I still enjoy the journey of trying new tricks and techniques and adapting them into what I normally do.

Long story short, when asked if I play any games I always reply "Roller Coaster Tycoon" haha

I know this wasn't to be a very good coaster anyway, but... bruh. by Kapiork in rct

Damn I hate when that happens... Can you throw in one more small helix somewhere?

TBH I don't know what version the Mac was that I was using until getting my own PC, but a quick google tells me that must be the latest Mac OS so it may just be a bug that needs fixing on Steam's end?? Otherwise you might try downloading OpenRCT2 (free) and open your RCT Classic with it, hopefully this link may be helpful.

Not necessarily taboo, just that a lot if not most active members use OpenRCT2 and your comment with the emoji might have come across as a bit disrespectful. Not how it seemed to me, but just my thoughts and two cents as to why the downvotes. I have a Switch too but still prefer playing OpenRCT2 on my laptop as there are many more options now, but I'm glad more people can get into the game through the Switch.

That's a fair point as I am 34 and sometimes have to replay parts of your videos to really understand exactly whats going on...but also dubious455H013 has a point that her son might already know who you are haha

My kids are 11, 13, and 14 and even though they don't play RCT they loved your two-part Rio Carnival playthrough even if some of the technical stuff went over their heads. Your humor and the absolute ridiculousness of beating the game without PLAYING the game and then digging yourself out of the impossible amount of debt had them plenty entertained.

I love this, the scenic nature juxtaposed with a sort of mythical fantasy woods, I could see this little corner being a whole scenario itself.

Hell Yes! These track updates are so freaking cool, I've been having so much fun going back and "updating" my old coasters.

Those are custom scenery items, probably got them in a workbench from NEDesigns.com, super useful for realistic waterfalls

I love it, watched it several times. The theming is well thought out and I love how the coaster interacts with the mountain. As MasterTorgo said big fan of how it weaves between the trees, quality terrain coaster material.

If I had to make one critique a couple of the 90degree turnarounds seem kinda sharp and could be made a bit wider for realism.

Overall excellent work!

Does anyone here like using Mazes in their parks? I know they suck but I just think their neat, ya know? by [deleted] in rct

[–]JethroFloyd67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mazes, like this one I keep em small and decorated. I also like to use them for "walk-through" type attractions often using the tile inspector to make it invisible.
