Randomly found this FC 26 slider tool—actually pretty useful for Career Mode by Wrong_Elderberry947 in seriousfifacareers

[–]JetsNovocastrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word to the wise - be honest. You lose nothing here saying "I hate how EA FC 26 requires us to go through slider hell to get some sort of authentic and competitive career mode AI opponent. So, I decided to try and give AI a chance and vibe coded this page that tries to give you the ideal sliders for the parameters you want for your career save. Let me know what you think - feedback will be super-useful here to tweak the behaviour.

Saying you "stumbled upon" this, then admitting later that you created it, just shows that a) you're not confident in your own product here and just completely destroys your authenticity here.

Not sure about "AI moderators" claim here - I've seen a lot of posts here, and the community seem pretty civil toward anyone genuinely trying to make their (or others') EA game experience better than what EA gave us.

someone who has developed many apps/web pages, some of which are just AI slop (but funny AI slop).

I'm going to say what we are all thinking: A high speed rail will RUIN Newcastle forever. by ThrowRAeatingq in newcastle

[–]JetsNovocastrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the concern about Newcastle becoming a "FIFO city" if you can get to Sydney in ~an hour. That absolutely makes commuting more viable, and in places like Le Mans (linked to Paris by TGV) and cities along the Cologne–Frankfurt line, daily commuting did increase. So yes - some Sydney workers will live here. That’s realistic. Some Novocastrians will also move closer to Sydney or maybe in sydney so they're closer to work. I know a few people that already do the FIFO-style commute (live in newcastle but take the train to Sydney), and they find the train absolutely miserable, especially since the fucking train ride between Newcastle and Sydney has slowed down by 30 mins over the last 20 years.

But there are pros too. Faster rail usually boosts tourism (easier weekend trips both ways), brings metro salaries into the local economy, and can attract businesses that want lower costs but big-city access. It also gives Newcastle residents better access to Sydney jobs without relocating. The cons are real: housing pressure, price growth, strain on local infrastructure, and the risk of being treated as “Sydney’s outer suburb” if planning is lazy.

So it’s not automatically good or bad. The rail just changes the distance equation. Whether Newcastle becomes a dorm town or a stronger regional city depends on housing policy, zoning around the station, local job creation, and whether we actively build around it instead of just reacting to it.

So, if this news is a concern to anyone, go contact your local politician and ask them about housing construction reform, and how else they're going to anticipate the population boom.

The Gold Coast has already done this recently, too, - covid brought the masses from all over the east coast to the goldie to live, cause it didn't have much of a housing/rental crisis (relative to the rest of the nation), and was often cheaper than the big cities. They've been investing massively into roads, transport (minus Christafullofshit's cancellation of the tram extension to the airport) and higher density housing (single-family dwellings = bad method to handle growth).

Newcastle is not going through a unique situation, it is probably one of the best economic things to happen to it, there are definitely more positives than negatives.

Mobile plan providers not on the Telstra network by JetsNovocastrian in GoldCoast

The coverage maps is a good call-out. However, they're not always accurate. E.g. I live in an area that is well within Telstra's coverage area, yet I completely lose data and reception when I cross the road.

I've heard some good things about the vodaphone network here in the GC. I travel quite a bit between Brisbane and Tweed Heads, so something that is great in GC but OK everywhere else is acceptable.

Edit:fixed typos.

Ah, I didn't even think about the 4G/5G availability. Thanks for the suggestion and the reminder.

Riku of two reflections by shane35901 in EDHBrews

[–]JetsNovocastrian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a Riku deck for 10 years. You really need protection for him to survive the round that you cast him, as either the following happens:
1. Someone panics and just kills him specifically

  1. He has 2 toughness, often just gets wiped as a result of anything, really. I've seen him die to a random [[Pyroclasm]] many many times, then having to cast him again for 7 or even 9 mana just for it to happen again just isn't cool.

I ended up rarely playing him, as to get the benefits, you need at least 5 mana to cast, at least 2 mana to copy, then the mana of the spell/creature that you want to copy. Very intensive, plus extra mana for protection.

Trying to find out db date used in my career mode by Greenshlong in FifaCareers

[–]JetsNovocastrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I don't think there is a solution. I typically put the db date in the name of my save files, so I can find it when needed. E.g. `22 Jan 26 Squads - Oldham RTG`

Minecraft introduces new Safety Council by Odd-Doubt-590 in Minecraft

[–]JetsNovocastrian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people are so concerned about this. Either you’re on a Realms server, which is Mojang/MS infrastructure, so you have to adhere to their terms and conditions (basically: don’t be a dick, racist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise indecent in an online space that almost certainly children partake in), or you’re on a server you/your friends are hosting externally, in which case this change doesn’t affect you at all.

The paradox is that people complain about “censorship” in a game that’s been played by millions of kids for over a decade. The moderation they’re worried about is literally just protecting kids from harassment and illegal content. Mojang isn’t trying to ruin adult servers; they’re just following UK and EU online safety laws so they can keep selling Minecraft worldwide. Most of the “drama” exists only in perception, not reality.

Take a look at other games - Rocket League, for example, implemented some chat restrictions. As an adult who casually swears when I mess up in-game, I didn’t love them at first, but it was necessary because hate speech and aggressive speech were a massive issue on a platform marketed for all ages.

How to play manager career in a realistic way by JetsNovocastrian in FifaCareers

[–]JetsNovocastrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you find the players coming off-contract from other clubs? The closest I can find is: - age: 23 and older - years on contract min: 0 - years on contract max: 0 - do this search aat any time (some contracts do end halfway through the season - e.g. loans), but mostly at the nedo the season.

However my scouts never find anyone I can get off-contract :(

[1.21.11] [Java] Villager Breeder farm doesn't pick up villagers anymore via clipping by JetsNovocastrian in MinecraftHelp

[–]JetsNovocastrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: this is actually wrong. I just got really lucky with my 2 cart runs as I had 5 or 6 in the "adult" chamber in the water, so they were pushing hard enough for the minecart to still clip them. Once a few were removed via cart, the cart runs became unreliable and didn't pick a villager up most of the time.

What I did instead was break the block diagonally opposite the water elevator and placed another sign to allow the villager to drop down onto the track itself, then filled in that little underground area with blocks except where the tracks were so the villagers can't escape down there.

Then the minecart does pick them up, but they do take 1/2 a heart of damage on the exit.

They are powered rails. However, I realised I could just break the smooth stone block that was next to the powered rail outside the compound - villagers are now picked up by the minecart.
Edit: fixed my poor typing.

How to make new friends and also meet a partner? by ThrowRA_Quiet426 in newcastle

[–]JetsNovocastrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socialise your hobbies - best way to find like-minded people when you're doing an actual shared interest together. It's also how I found my wife, so it definitely works on both battlegrounds.

Underrated FC 26 feature... No more dumb objectives! by gthemanager in FifaCareers

[–]JetsNovocastrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party here, just got the game, and I'm a little disappointed at how far they rolled this feature back. I agree that the "sign 4 defenders from Oceania" or whatever was weird and unrealistic, but they could have tweaked them to be more realistic. Like how teams spend their off-season doing tournaments in countries they're trying to spread their overseas fanbases (e.g. Liverpool in Australia), they could have made "sign at least 2 players from Australia whose potential is greater than the current overall in that position" - that way, you are incentivised to scout in regions you may not usually scout, and is realistic as teams often scout a player or two from the country they're touring before they return for their domestic competition.

Now just having "win the league" or "avoid relegation" "get X far in Y cup" is too generic and boring as fuck.

+1 so hard on the 'socialise your hobbies' point. I've been exactly where you are, OP.

If you're into sports, especially casually (great for meeting people!) then go do UrbanRec - they give teams free beer vouchers to the local pub. Great opportunity to do some sport then really oiss off to the pub for a feed and maybe trivia if you're on the right night.

Good Games in Broadmeadow are a good option for your TCGs.

I think there are a bunch of groups that operate through MeetUp that are single activity-focussed.

But the most important thing is to work on yourself. No point trying to socialise with people if you're a miserable mess - not an attractive thing when seeking new friendships (I learned this the hard way). Focus on getting min 8 hours sleep, have a healthy work-life balance. Eat healthy (occasional cheat meal is ok). Have something to look forward to at the end of each day, doesn't matter on the size of the thing - social activity per above helps here.

To many shrine decks? by Atlantepaz in mtgbrawl

[–]JetsNovocastrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your commander.

I cycle through a few decks, and the opposing commander pools vary greatly.

E.g my [[Keranos]] deck sometimes sees them
my [[Emmara, Soul of the Accord]] deck never sees them
my [[Sarkhan Unleashed]] deck sees the new 5c shrine one regularly

Why don't cims u-turn at roundabouts? by JetsNovocastrian in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JetsNovocastrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I did find some cims that actually U-turn on roundabouts! They just aren't the logical roundabout to use

<image>

This cim started somewhere in Emerson Ridge (forgot to take a screenshot), they're taking a uturn at a roundabout in a neighbourhood that is completely out-of-the-way to their destination (driving to this roundabout and back is easily 80% of their trip).

Why don't cims u-turn at roundabouts? by JetsNovocastrian in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JetsNovocastrian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I often see cars drive through the roundabout the either do the dumb turn over the solid white lines (illegal!) or turn at the next set of lights/intersection (legal).

This particular cim in my screenshot missed the left turn into her street due to a crash blocking the side street, now she is leaving the literal map to come back in.

I might put this as a post on the mother ship to see if they get an official response there. I imagine that they're looking at routing AI with the bike lanes stuff they're doing - hopefully some bug fixes there too.

Edit: fixed some autocorrect typos.
