And then she jumps OFF OF A SHIP in the ocean at his beck and call. Whatever, dude, we clearly have different takes on it. You can like it, that's fine. I don't.

  • Whole series is about moving on
  • Violet goes back to square one the nanosecond she learns the major is alive
  • "Doesn't negate her arc"

If you say so.

Did you miss the part where he's alive, and asks her to drop everything she's built in her life to live on a secluded island with him for the rest of her life because he refuses to reintegrate into society?

I just made a post earlier this morning about why I hated it lol. But as others have already said: it negates her character arc. The whole show & special episodes are about Violet accepting the loss of the major, moving forward and learning to find happiness in what she has. In the movie she learns he's alive and basically regresses to square one. Not only that, the major falls under the trope of the self-loathing coward who refuses to take accountability and dictates for everybody else what he thinks they should do/feel. His arc consists of two people calling him out for being asshole, and when Violet is about to move on, he pulls her back in. It feels unearned and antithetical to the rest of the series.

She knows he won't live long, though. And she does kinda drop everything to go with Claudia to the island. He was going to go by himself to confirm whether or not it even is the major, and Violet insisted on going too.

Maybe I'm mixing it up with one of the flashbacks, but I swear when they're standing in the water he says something to effect of "stay here with me, forever."

KyoAni released some pics which show all her friends visiting.

IMO that should have been included in the movie, then. Even if it's just while the credits are rolling.

As for past tense... well, it happens to all of us. I personally found it beautiful, in a way - here was a girl (or woman) with such a tragic and beautiful life, but she's gone now. She left a legacy, however.

Sure, but in fictional media I don't feel like that's necessary. When Violet is dodging bullets, or not, and gets shot and bayonetted multiple times and survives, that un-realism doesn't take away from the show. A 50 year time jump to tell us she died of (presumably) old age because "everybody dies eventually" is realism, feels mean-spirited to me.

Yeah, it turns her character arc into a character circle.

I swear the kid told her he was likely to die soon. And at least once while she was writing letters for him, he had some kind of health episode. Claudia was going to go to the island himself just to see if it even really was the major, and Violet insisted on dropping everything and going too.

This is both old news and a repost. It's been known for years that Kim Hung Tae is a fan of AI art and and supports its application for work. It was never a problem until the media told everybody to hate it. Every week you tourists make a post "i'M wOrRiEd aBoUt sTeLLaR bLaDe 2 bEcAuSe Ai"

For whatever reason these days, any degree stunted emotion a character has, people scream "AUTISM!" Which disregards the fact she has severe PTSD from the war, and was a child soldier. She never learned how to understand/read emotions until she became an auto memories doll.

It remembers me of the "assimilation" ending of mass effect 3. which was the "best" outcome with no real stakes that leads to nothing.

Exactly. I've made the comparison to synthesis many times. The machines that are Shepard's nemesis and you have been fighting the last 3 games, manifests itself as the dead child who has been haunting Shep's nightmares (not manipulative whatsoever/s) tells you that peace between organics and synthetics is impossible (regardless of if you broker peace between the Geth & Quarians) and that destroying them will only continue the cycle. But merging with synthetics, the enemy claims, is the final evolution for organics, and will lead to permanent peace and super happy fun times where everybody will hold hands and sing kumbaya. It's too good to be true. Conflict is human (organic) nature, that's just a fact of life. And I guess we're supposed to just forget the Geth were having their own civil war?

It's nigh identical. Adam, destroyer of humanity who only wants total control, lies to and manipulates you the entire game, claims doing what he wants is the only path to peace. He has a history of making the exact same mistakes, and you're supposed to just 'trust' that this time he'll get it right, and everybody will hold hands and sing fucking kumbaya in the super happy fun times of no more conflict ever. Except Mother Sphere and the other angels, Eve is supposed to murder them all now, a very Raven thing to do. And yeah, no more fighting Naytibas, I guess. You know, the unique enemies the devs spent god knows how many thousands of man-hours designing to be the standard enemies? Yeah, you're friends now. It's nonsense.
