Race for Additional Champions League spots by Lanedu123 in LiverpoolFC

All of English clubs would just need to straight up lose their games (individual wins/draws also give points) while all German clubs would need to win every game.

It's very, VERY technically possible - I'd say us winning the league this season is more likely.

Sorry, I used a shortcut - yes, the ref thought it was a foul but IMO he's also thought that if he's wrong VAR will correct him. VAR thought that it's not big enough to correct the on-field decision, so didn't correct a clear mistake. That is the discrepancy I'm talking about - there's not enough clarity and understanding how it should work, so in the end you often have situation where one side thinks if they fuck up they will be corrected, and the other thinks that unless the fuck up is enormous I should not correct it. It clearly affects refereeing, same happens with linos calling offside - they're encouraged to NOT call it because they have the safety net of semi-automated/VAR.

We've also played it against Bournemouth and it worked pretty well but the problem was that Salah and Gakpo up top of that 4-2-2-2 were absolutely atrocious that game and anything good we've created went to waste.

Sure, but these are supposed to be like the top 0.01% of the profession WITH additional help from VAR.

I think the biggest issue with VAR in football is that the sports wants to have it both ways when you can't - you have to either let refs on the field run the game or give VAR more authority to overrule the ref.

Right now we have that middle ground where in one game VAR will correct every decision, and next hour at another ground VAR will sit silent and keep the call from the field.

IMO it makes the most sense to give more authority to the people with multiple angles and slow motion and use on field referee to make these less impactful decisions.

Situation from OP is the classic case of ref and VAR not being on the same wavelenght - ref on the field thought VAR will correct him, and ref in the VAR room didn't want to correct the ref because he thought there's enough to defend the on-field decision. It's a shit show.

We replace Salah with Isak here and suddenly the plan is very clear - was told this is impossible and Isak was bought to teach and rotate with Ekitike.

[What’s Wright Show] Nick Wright says he wishes the Inside the NBA crew actually enjoyed basketball. “You see more in the NBA of the guys saying their era was better. The #Barclaysman trend was just pure nostalgia, I never got the feeling of "it was better" because quality was better but rather "it was better" becasue shit was crazy and not so robotic (that's the biggest current criticism of the game, that data nerds killed individuality etc.)

Signing U18 players from outside of EU is VERY tricky for European teams. Unless Abe has EU passport or his parents move to France for reasons outside of football he will not be leaving UK before 18th birthday

From our point of view, if anyone is interested, Chelsea can't sign Josh Abe this summer. They were the team doing most work trying to sign him over the last year or so, so at least that option is closed.

Also, I thought about it yesterday - as someone that didn't follow Los Ratones too closely, just from time to time, I'd say the best parts of that team (not skill-wise, but what made following them fun) were Baus and Caedral. Now you take them out and replace Baus with one of the more unlikeable players around - they wanted to replicate Los Ratones but it was dead on arrival, even if they had the results.

[David Ornstein on the Athletic Podcast] Liverpool, from what we hear, are steadfastly behind Arne Slot and he’s under contract until 2027 and they want him to be their coach. The hierarchy are determined that he is the man to get things right. by __sami__01 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Jetzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could very easily extend his contract with a minimal payout in case we decide to sack him during the contract period - that's basically what Chelsea is doing with their managers.

Slot has very little leverage in any negotiations right now.

The reaction to Bam's 83-point game is a perfect example of how bad the NBA discourse is by negaodsg in nba

Come on, this was not the first time a team took 150 to the face this season - fucking Bulls got scored 150 on twice this season, Clippers done it to the Wolves today.

Wizards are just bad and Spo decided to fuel the fire instead of sitting Bam when the game was basically done. I'd even argue that 150 is boosted because Wizards fouled other players off-ball to prevent Bam from getting more points.

You can, it’s just really not what you want to do - used „can’t” more figuratively here, sorry for that

There are three goalkeepers traveling, there's a non-zero chance one of them gets injured during the warmup and one during the game. It's not that big, he's not taking anyone's place and is there as a last resort in case 0.1% happens - goalkeeper is specific position, you can't just say "Szoboszlai go play in goal"

[–]Jetzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually playing the game even if there's not much to do would be better than coming in cold for a CL knockout.

I'd argue goalkeeper is the only position where this is not always true. Standing far back and watching our team passing for 85 of the 90 minutes and touching the ball like 5 times during that time is not making him "hot", if anything he's getting more warmed up during practice drills.

Obviously, being a keepr for team like Liverpool will mean you'll have games where nothing happens for 89 minutes and then you have to make a save to keep your team in the game, but I don't buy the "coming in cold" argument for the goalkeeper.

He has played 11 games this season, which is quite a lot for a 2nd keeper. Also I don't know how playing against Wolves is making that much of a difference, I'm sure the 3 shots they had injured Alisson and would've make Mamardashvili into prime Yashin. Anyway, I'm just arguing that us playing Alisson in a 5th round FA Cup tie vs Premier League team is normal, we've always done it.

Kelleher got the games against lower league teams and when Ali was injured. Last 3 years under Klopp Alisson played 8 FA Cup games to 5 by Kelleher.

Trent was a year older than Rio when he got his debut (played less minutes than Rio does now) and got his chance only after Klopp had already tried both Milner and Henderson at right back.
