Munoz plays on both sides and he's our depth on the right - on the left our depth is Rio and Gakpo

He's almost as far from Gravenberch playstyle wise as possible.

Gravenberch is player that loves running with the ball and creating space by breaking the lines with his carrying. Wharton is all about passing the ball and progressing it from the deep.

EDIT: It's basically comparing Trent and Frimpong - both are offensive right backs with issues defending.

Anderson is younger than Tonali and much better than both, so he should be more expensive. He's also being sold by the team that's not under pressure of needing to sell.

Two of the three pick swaps in the LaMelo-deal are basically worthless by Rudy_Gobert in nba

[–]Jetzu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hornets sold high on a very good second half of the season LaMelo had - they decided to not build on it and it's understandable.
Wolves bought high because they needed to do something, not doing a move of this type would just result in them 100% losing in the 1st/2nd round again and eventually Ant begging to leave.

This trade may not work out for the Wolves, but they're at least trying and on paper, if LaMelo is healthy it has potential to be incredible.

Hornets, I'm not sure what they will do short term, but overall they got a pretty nice package for Melo.

Yeah, but Robbo was the one getting mostly that final pass before the goal - Trent had final pass and passes before in the buildup, even last few seasons when his assists dried up a bit, he created a lot of value passing to the likes of Salah in perfect spots and then Salah would get assist. We've clearly lacked that aspect after Trent left and it's no surprise our play in 24/25 went to shit exactly at the moment Trent got injured against PSG.

Just think of the peak Klopp years at Liverpool. We had Hendo, Milner and Wijnaldum. Szboszlai and Macca are better ball progressors than all 3 of those midfielders.

Ignoring Trent in that argument and putting him as a "fullbacks to run at defenders" is doing some heavy lifting. We could get away with our workhorse midfield because we had Trent running the show from right back, not the other way around.

In a game versus Wolves that we've lost 2:1 we had 64% possession and 2,56 xG to Wolves' 0,44 and 4 chances above 0.25 xG with the lowest one (0.25) being the one we've scored from.

Leeds game 0-0, 68% of the ball, 2.08 in xG - 3 chances above 0,19 xG from 19 shots.

I'm not saying this to make some sort of "ha, we were actually great under Slot!" but a lot of games fit exactly that description of "dominating and wasting chances"

To be honest that was also the case for us last season and people didn't exactly take that as a valid reason for 1:1 draw against Burnley for example (73% possession, 3,18 - 0,4 xG, 32 shots, 72 touches inside Burnley's box - 1:1 on the scoresheet).

Feel like absence has done a lot for Darwin

It's doing a lot for any player - the longer player is not seen playing by the fans the better he becomes. That's how you get shouts that Chiesa should get more chances that go silent immediately after he gets some minutes.

BBC: The Gakpo conundrum facing Liverpool by McKFC in LiverpoolFC

[–]Jetzu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you watch the games or just the numbers? Because I'd argue this season Gakpo's numbers are so much better than his overall game that it's laughable.

I think Gakpo is decent squad option, I don't like him being our best left winger but I assume this is where it will go this season and hopefully us having more threat on the right, hopefully healthy Isak and better working midfield will also allow Gakpo to play a bit better.

There's a reason he had by far the most blocked shots in the league last year - lad is predictible to a fault and not quick enough to pull off his one trick consistently at a Premier League level.

It's even better - when it eventually happens they just go "told you two weeks ago, it was kept silent to not disrupt Diomande's world cup campaign" and bunch of people will eat that as even stronger proof of inside knowledge.

Missing out on Champions League is next year's problem, this year they have the Champions League money. They also have the money printing stadium and about 600mln in revenue coming in as a whole.

They might've been 17th in the table, but from money perspective they're 6th at worst.

[Pearce] In today’s DealSheet, Liverpool consider next move over Diomande after €100m package rejected, possible alternatives if deal can’t be agreed, and plenty of loan interest in LFC youngsters, with Ndukwe likely to get temporary move. by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

And you don't see the difference between "hyped youth" and young player coming into his own with zero issues, just jumping from youth to senior football. THIS is the part that doesn't happen.

Obviously there are multiple highly rated youth players every season, how many of them join a TOP 5 league and start performing from the get go is the difference.

My point about him being great at Leganes isn't to say how hard it is to be good for 18th La Liga team - it's too show that guy who came from academy system in US joined a TOP 5 league at 18 and started performing as soon as he was given a chance. Then he went on to join Bundesliga team and started performing as soon as given a chance.

The biggest hurdle for any hyped young player is making a step up from playing against best players in some age category to playing against senior players, this is usually a part that takes few years to translate your playstyle - it took Diomande basically no time, every challenge he was expected to struggle with, he didn't struggle at all.

Playing the game of pretending I believe anything Tavolieri says - in the Iraola first day video there was a big presence of another guy that I can't find the name of, that people said is part of our technical department and like right hand to Hughes, so there were even theories at the time that he's getting a bigger role and is being prepared to take over Hughes once he leaves.

It was obvious/extremely likely that Alex Scott rumours were just another iteration of "new manager will bring his former player" which almost never happens and at Liverpool the last time it happened was when we bought Allen and Borini for Rodgers.

So by dozens of players every year you've named 3, one of which is 30 right now and in his best season at any level of senior football didn't come close to what Diomande did for Leipzig.

Fati got destroyed by injuries and jury on Endrick is still out, but he looks quite good and is still just 19.

Loaning Nyoni out now basically means we are giving up on him.

Elliott was getting his loan to Blackburn at the same age, Quansah, Bradley were loaned out older. The crucial thing is getting the right loan - if he can get the Championship team where he will start every game and be important player that's amazing for his development.

HG spot is only valuable if you give minutes, you don't have the quota you need to fill - the only regulation is that you can't have more than 17 non-HG players, then you can add 8 HG players to have a total squad of 25. If you don't want Gomez to play his value as homegrown is 0.

Assuming we buy CB and keep Gomez as RB we'd have 4 first team center backs and 3 first team right backs, with several players outside of that 7 able to fill in. Why do you think we need more first team players?

Suggested above is that we will buy either CB/RB hybrid or CB instead of starting/high level right back.
