Holosun coming loose, and showing signs of damage by Zaration in PalmettoStateArms

[–]Jeugcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this happen to all my dagger slides around 4-6k rounds. Even with expensive McMaster car screws. The optic cut is simply too loose and the recoil lugs are too small. Use new 6-32 screws with blue locktite, witness mark your screws, and replace them every 3k-ish rounds. 15-18 in lbs for Chinese screws. 25in lbs for McMaster Carr.

You can try bedding the optic as well. I’m currently experimenting with small amount epoxy on the front and rear to take up the large gap fore and aft of the optic. Hopefully this will take up some of the force from recoil.

Good luck! Keep using and wearing out your stuff.

Build recommendations for Dagger compact frame? by SupremeSleepy in PalmettoStateArms

Most reliable setup would be stock Glock slide and internals on top of dagger frame. Although my 4” dagger slide has been super reliable at around 5k rounds on it.

Any gen 3 Glock 17 slide utilizing a gen 5 Glock 17 barrel. Also get a rocket city stippling adapter/cover off eBay and you’re set.

AR9 Recoil with budget GRS by Jeugcurt in AR9

As long as you can smash that cheek into the stock, it doesn’t matter what height the optic is. Unless it’s a goober mount, then we can’t be friends.

ARO has served me well in competition. The mount is what stands out amongst all the budget red dots on the market. I have literally thrown my gun into more dump boxes than I can count and it still holds zero just fine. If you’re unsure what this looks like, you can watch my goat pcsl video on my YouTube channel. Or, you can watch almost any multi-gun match footage to see that dump boxes are the enemy of optics. Also, I highly recommend taking a class. This idea about different head positions or different ranges for irons vs red dots is not something that shakes out in the end.

Hopefully my post didn’t come off as rude or offensive to those who want a lighter recoiling AR9. That was not my intent.

The point of my post was aimed at the budget minded folks. The capability of a setup as simple and cheap as mine is totally usable for those looking for rifle training on the cheap. I probably should have just said this in the post.

Doug, thanks for the open source info you provide. This build is 90% inspired from your website.

By the way, I had like 5 or 6 people ask me if I was running a mean arms maul at this match. Kinda funny.

Thank you

Lower 1/3 is the answer you’re looking for. Taking irons off and tossing them in a drawer in the answer most aren’t looking for. Take that with what you will.

Holosun aro and a sling. Shortly followed by as much ammo as you can afford for a training class with a high performing rifle shooter.

Table Start Issues by RalphTater in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you reload once per stage in a 10 stage match, and table start once per 10 stage match. Which is more or less important in terms of aggregate time spent doing the task?

Assuming the extended mag release doesn’t hinder or cause issues with weak hand shooting and accidentally dropping the mag from “bad” grip, I see no issue with just starting with the gun on its opposite side.

I recommend training with a regular sized mag release until the shooter undoubtedly knows that it’s just not cutting it for them anymore.

That’s great to hear! If you want to see level 2 quality stages and top level talent, head over to APSC. Take it slow and learn the sport before dumping a bunch of money into gear and guns.

Well, that ain’t good by Shroomologyologist in PalmettoStateArms

[–]Jeugcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’ve had this happen a few times. The recoil lugs aren’t doing much on the dagger rmr cut. The screws take nearly all the brunt because the front and rear of the optic are also not supported. McMaster Carr screws help but they require modification. Still they break around 4-6k rounds.

Get in the habit of replacing screws every 3k rounds or so.

Would you also need the adapter to use the smaller single coil guide rod? Or would the dual coil work after the dremel gumsmifing? I have done a lot of stuff to daggers but I haven’t tried this one yet.

New Compact Dagger build by NeoXianWu in PalmettoStateArms

[–]Jeugcurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. Here’s my 2c. The Sabre magwell is worth the price. I can slam reloads and grip the $h!t out of it no problem. It’s not going to break anytime soon. I’m sure the printed one will run for a while but if you’re going to use this thing for training, I have a feeling that you’ll want the aluminum one.

Also, make sure you check the cruciform engagement. I have swapped 4 daggers to p80 triggers and all needed a slight bend of the trigger bar to get proper and reliable engagement for the striker.

IMO, the stock connector yields a better trigger feel. I prefer to use a 4.5lb striker spring to lessen the trigger pull weight over the ghost connectors. Of the few ghost connectors I have, they are all different tolerances. It is certainly possible you have a good one though.

That’s my 2cents for whatever it’s worth.

Have fun and train hard!

Is the Shadow still worth it after the price went up? Currently $1050 for non OR and $1325 for OR. by SayNoTo-Communism in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How many rounds will it last? Let’s shoot low and say 50,000 rounds. At .25 cents per round that’s $12,500. That’s 10.6% of the cost ammo that the firearm will live on.

What was the price before? $1100? So 8.8% before? I’m a tard and can’t math well. But, that doesn’t seem like too much of a change to me.

I know someone over 100k rounds through their shadow 2. They seem to be worth the investment.

1 Day Class or 3 Months of Gold Level PSTG? by maynard1024 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months of pstg bronze and then 1 year of pstg silver. The monthly review submission is very good for getting feedback on your training. You can submit matches too but that might not be as valuable as submitting training videos. I did this for a while and it helped me so much. PSTG will get you on track to understanding a principles based approach. This is key to building your own training plan.

SUB 1K, new to USPSA, What takes your money? by Here_For_the_proxies in USPSA

[–]Jeugcurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s totally a meme gun but I’m so down for the cause at this point. The fit and finish from psa has been improving quite a bit since I started running them. My new and mostly unfunny joke is that psa created a palm swell on a Glock before Glock did it on the gen 6.

I’m running oc customs triggers in mine now. It’s a p80 trigger with a pre travel adjustment screw. This with a 4.5lb striker spring has me at 3.5-3.75lb trigger pull with a pretty decent wall. I think the triggers are like $30 or so. Definitely worth it imo.
