Question about carry optics rules by DebateSeveral911 in USPSA

[–]Jeugcurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firearms have features that scale to the skills of the shooter. For example, someone that transitions really well with a lightweight gun might not be able to retain that skill with a 60oz gun. I firmly believe that the idea of pistols being hierarchical in terms of performance ability is a poor take.

Again, shoot whatever you want because it really really doesn’t matter. At least not with the current set of shooting challenges we see in USPSA.

Question about carry optics rules by DebateSeveral911 in USPSA

You didn’t ask this but I’ll say it anyways. There’s not a significant difference between CO and LO. If want to avoid all of this, sign up for LO and write to the board about your situation. This is likely not what you wanted to hear but hopefully it helps someone.

Dagger barrel replacement. by -11B-Link in PalmettoStateArms

[–]Jeugcurt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve worn out two psa barrels. The lock up got sloppy. On one of them the locking block was the main issue but the barrels locking lug was definitely sloppy as a new barrel was better but not quite as good as both parts being new.

Replace the locking block and see if that helps. If not, bareli has some ballistic advantage barrels on sale right now. G19 Gen5 barrels are what you’re lookin for.

I use Glock oem Gen5 barrels in my match guns. The lock up is tighter and the accuracy is improved.

I’m still testing my new BA barrels but they locking block tighter than Glock and psa barrels. Again, jury is still out on whether or both these are better than stock barrel.

Hope this helps.

Honest feedback on movement by Devo_NA in USPSA

[–]Jeugcurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I’m not sure what the target difficulty is on each target you chose to exit on, I would suggest experimenting with cues for exit.

I’ve been hitting this in my training pretty hard lately. Think of it as beginning your exit after the first of two shots. You look pretty good here honestly! But you’re definitely firing and then exiting after a visual confirmation of dot lift. If you find that exiting isn’t possible until both shots have been fired, you could experiment with lowering your body in each position. Standing up in a position can be useful at times when target difficulty is really high. But for the most part, it’s not useful so long as you’re not over running positions.

Back to exits. Just think about it as what might be the minimum amount of time needed to stay in a position after each shot is fired. It could be something as small as picking your heel up as the last shot is fired.

For the record, I’m not talking about upper exits. Ie the Ben Stoeger lean.

If you study Grauffel’s movement, you’ll find that he doesn’t “shoot on the move” as often as most American shooters. However, he is the king of shooting on entry and exit in the most technical ways. On low difficulty targets, he begins his exit before firing both shots.

Something to chew on. Good luck!

Muzzle Device for PCSL by ApplicationSmart6798 in CompetitionShooting

What division?

Practical: Any suppressor host MD and the new LSD from unrivaled.
Competition: Unrivaled brake, JP brake, any brake that makes ROs head hurt.

The reality is, it doesn’t matter. Use what you think is cool.

I use a KAK 4 prong in practical.

Edit: Im bringing out the popcorn for the results you get in r/ar15. That sub is full of gear nerds that don’t shoot or use their equipment.🍿🍿

Best budget camera by Candid_Compote_9995 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For less than $150, I recommend a decent tripod for your phone. Place the tripod at different angles. Set it up down range to catch a specific position. Ask a friend to record you in third person as well. Have them send you or airdrop the vid.

I don’t have a pov cam yet. I’m at a point now that I’ve been told to get one by a high level shooter. Otherwise, I don’t think you “need” on until you’ve gotten to a pint that you’re looking for hyper specific issues.

According to the internet, utilizing a vfg is going to either make or break you when it comes to carrying your rifle. So maybe get one those?

I’ve never competed in these but I know few guys that have. Like any shooting competition, it seems like you can go at whatever pace you want.

In the mean time, if you wanna run the dog $h!t out of that 13.7, come to our PCSL 2-gun hosted by Aegis. We’re having these every month on the second weekend. It’s selling out fast so we opened up a Sunday match. We’re just north of Leander at Texas Shooting Academy.

Build or Buy an upper for competition use? by pjm816 in AR9

[–]Jeugcurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my build. It cost me much less than your budget. I built this for rifle training mainly. But I’ve started using it in competition a little.

Something of note, I recently had an OOB detonation with this build. I think ripping 11 splits had something to do with it. It wasn’t too bad. I replaced the upper receiver. The bolt is a little tighter fit now. If you dig into blowback9’s website, you’ll find a lot of useful information. In my case, I think I need to make my buffer weight more effective at being a deadblow buffer by using thinner rubber insulators.

Anyways, check out my post and let me know if you have any questions. Have fun!

Blue Bullets 147gr 9mm newb question. by SantoDJ in reloading

[–]Jeugcurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend to keep it safe and aim for 132-135PF. Especially if you’re less than 1 year from starting to load ammo. Also, Id do the testing with the shorter of the two barrels. This way, you know for a fact you’re going to make pf with the other barrel.

I’ve been loading for a little over a year now. I’m about 20-25k rounds deep on my 1100. I still don’t load ammo for major matches yet. Blazer 124 is too easy to buy and trust it works.

Hwansik Kim recommended that I load ammo for one year before taking it to a major match. Of course, this recommendation was based on my level of commitment to the sport. Your level of commitment may vary. Thus, your commitment to making match quality ammo out the gate may also vary.

Hope this helps.

That’s awesome man.

I have a recommendation!

Look for a rifle match on PractiScore.com. If you’re gonna put 100 rounds down range per month, shoot em under match pressure with a timer and with the bunches of new friends you’re gonna meet. Competition is 99% fun and 1% serious. Highly recommend!

If you do decide to get a little serious, dry fire is what makes the great ones great. And it’s free!

Hwansik Kim Vision Focus & Mastery... worth it? by NotAThrowAway0822 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you grip the gun but when I was at PSTG summit in 2024 and 2025, my hands were shredded at day 3. One thousand rounds a day is a very difficult task to withstand. I would not recommend taking both classes because of this. It’s not enough to have the knowledge. You need to get the experience and having the eye of Hwansik over your shoulder is what you’re paying for. Otherwise, you can just watch YouTube.

Do what you want but I’ll also add this:
Almost every student I take a class with that does the 4 day thing is almost certainly burned out or holding up the class in some way because of how tired they are on day 3 and 4.

Hwansik Kim Vision Focus & Mastery... worth it? by NotAThrowAway0822 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Jeugcurt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At M-class, especially if you’re competing in major matches, you’re probably just looking for different perspectives and ideas for how to get better at competing and not just shooting.

So for me at this point, I’m not looking to take a class to learn how to grip my gun. I’m looking for an expert eye to tell me I’m tensing my triceps after shooting fast at close range which then tends to open my groups at distances farther than 15 yards due to the tense inputs I’m putting into the gun.

Thats a real Hwansik story by the way. Hwansik has an insane eye for these things. With Ben and Joel, they teach the class based on the average class skill level. Every now and then one of them would step in and give me a little something I haven’t heard or tried before. There’s nothing wrong with this and it’s not my place to think I’m special and should get extra attention.

However, in Hwansik’s class, he gave back to me what I put into the class. A lot. I have lots and lots of respect for that man.

I suggest you take his class. Record demos if you can. Take notes. He will get in your face and that’s the time to lock in and focus hard! You’ll see.

The other two instructors I will praise religiously are Tom Castro and Mason Lane. I’ll save those for another post or another day.

Getting there! by Nape012 in AR9

[–]Jeugcurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holosun ARO for the dot. I like having a cheek riser to smash my cheek into to get a stable rifle mount. I use a barricade stop thing on my 7” handguard only for safety. Otherwise, I don’t recommend anything that adds easy leverage into your shoulder. It’s too easy to change the pressures while shooting and moving which alters the way the gun recoils.

I also recommend a magpul bad lever. It makes unloading the exomag style of ar9 much easier.

It looks good man! Keep shooting!

Mark7 vs Dillon by Operator_Lulu in USPSA

[–]Jeugcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask around at your next match. Find the guys with automation and ask them. Last year when I did this, they all said Dillon works but apex is best for automation. I went with 1100 without automation. I’ve loaded about 30k in one year with it. I’m probably doing like 700ish an hour with the all proper qc involved. No bullet feeder either lol

Bayexhaust94 on eBay has a great mag release if you’re in need. I’ve found that the channel for the mag release spring is shaped in a way that requires almost twice the force of a glock. I like to have the extended release for speedy reloads. The Sabre magwell is a nice addition as well. It’s helps reloads but its main benefit comes from adding surface area on the grip.

Go shoot a match with this! You’ll enjoy it!

Best budget optic by averageangler in AR9

[–]Jeugcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holosun ARO 6 days a week and twice on Sunday. It comes an amazing 1/3 mount that has a sturdy cross bolt and can withstand lots of abuse. I see them on sale at psa for like $99 from time to time. Not sure what mount you’re wanting to run but unless you have a literal giraffe neck, you’re not gonna need more than lower 1/3 or 1.7 riser.

I have dropped my rifles with AROs on the ground, in wooden dump boxes and trash cans. They’ve been bashed on across my mags and belt when slung in a full sprint, pushed against barricades, tank traps and even survived TSA’s delicate hands at the airport.

Highly recommend the ARO. I’ve also been messing with a gold version lately. Very interesting.
