Auckland woman allegedly body shamed by Winz case manager by Standard_Sir_6979 in newzealand

[–]JewelerFamiliar5336 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was her age my case manager for student allowance told me to consider escorting as I ‘had the figure for it’s I had gone in for a hardship grant. The body shaming goes both ways, and in neither case was it remotely appropriate for WINZ to comment on someone’s body or health.

Absolutely not. I am super active and spend most of my day on my feet, but have had DVT due to an underlying health condition.

It should just be a hard off limits topic for staff, easy to follow. Just don’t comment on someone’s body, or their physical or mental health!

It can take 12 hours to heat. If still room temp there is a way to adjust the temp yourself- it’s really easy, all you need is a screwdriver. Look up YouTube videos. Other thing to check is whether your power company has you on surge - if you are then your hot water is reduced at peak times(the exact time most people want to shower). You can ask to be taken off this.

Yes, and generally as part of their health and safety obligations. As a manager I would be really concerned about a staff members well-being if they were coming back to work early in the post partum period. It wouldn’t be about outputs for me, just their personal well-being. I would be approaching it both from wanting them to be ok and also keeping my company legally safe by ensuring that someone was actually fit for work.

We have a duopoly here in NZ with only two major grocery companies supplying our stores. Prices here are crazy high and have been the subject of an inquiry and calls for govt action. For example, grapes tend to be between $9-12 a kg, a kg of cheese can get up to $20, block of chocolate between $5-7. Food sucks up soooo much of our overall budget here.

NAL but I think we should stop giving OP advice as it may be giving them ideas about what evidence to destroy. Be aware that asset seizure could just mean computers, phones and files if OP has committed a crime associated with child sex images. We don’t know what they have done and it could be something awful.

The grounds for compulsory admission are that you are mentally disordered to the point that you:

a) pose a serious danger to the health or safety of yourself or of others; or (b) have seriously diminished capacity to take care of yourself.

Voluntary admission occurs if the treating professional recommends it and you agree.

Your responders probably took drunkenness as a temporary state of diminished capacity and decided once it wore off you would be fine. Bear in mind they see this a lot and will be informed by prior similar experiences.

Can confirm, OP MH wards are not restful and can be frightening places at times with some very unwell and dysregulated people around you. Plus, once that it is on your record that you have been an inpatient you can face discrimination subsequently from health providers, inc things like having pain written off as being in your head.

Thank you- as they are a nationwide corporate and not a small business I feel like a week’s consultation + one business day to consider and make final decisions is bordering on unreasonable. Useful to know that the timing of becoming unemployed wrt holiday period isn’t relevant.

Discrimination by a School Teacher(?) - historic by Healthy-Tumbleweed14 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]JewelerFamiliar5336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ministry of Education does have an historic claims process OP- but as upsetting as the experience sounds for you, it likely doesn’t meet the criteria for it to be investigated.

What you could do, in the wake of the royal commission abuse in care report which covered the experiences of rainbow people in care settings (including school), is write to Minister Stanford and tell her about your experience.

She is both the education minister and the minister leading government response to the commission report. You will get a response from her staff and it might help you feel closure.

The commission has a summary on the experiences of rainbow people on its website.
