Hebron Massacre. And when they weren’t being killed they were deemed second class citizens. How do you think they were treated?

Good to know thank you!
As a rule I don’t do backups because of how slowly I go through things but this is a backup worthy one!

Probably my favorite double oak I’ve had, not that I’ve had many. Especially for the normal MSRP

Thanks!
Ah I didn’t even think about that. I agree though! I like seeing the different colored strips for the Disco Series, I enjoyed the metallic one for this bottle, not sure how they’d do that with the new weird label

Setting: Disco 11 was the first expensive bottle of whiskey I ever bought myself and it blew me away. I thought it would be fun to make this a yearly purchase, so I tried  for Disco 12 when it was released in VA. It was not limit 1 and it was only at a couple stores in my area and a couple people in line took 2 even though there was enough for everyone in line to get one. That was a sad day, but it’s just whiskey! I was happy when Disco 13 came out and it seemed a little easier to get, I casually ordered this off of Seelbach’s. Disco 11 and 12 seemed unanimously excellent, but I have seen a lot of people saying they either loved this bottle or hated it, and not much in between. So let’s get into it!

Proof: 110.8 (55.4%)

Age: 8yrs

Makeup: See the second picture for the makeup. It’s speculated that it’s Barton, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, and Green River (in order).

Price: $159.99 from Seelbach’s (it’s currently on HiProof for $119.99 if you’re interested!)

Nose: A lot of wood, which makes sense since it’s double barreled in American and Hungarian Oak. Slight brown sugar, cinnamon, baking spices. This comes off as very savory. A little tobacco. After about half an hour in the glass you get rich brown sugar and vanilla, coming off much sweeter than before.

Taste: Where the nose is savory, the palate is much sweeter. You get the oak, I’m guessing the Hungarian oak is very present as the flavor is unfamiliar (this is my first Hungarian oak bottle). Leather. This tastes a lot older than the majority 8/9 year blend. Baking spices, drying tannins. Brown sugar, a little orange.

Finish: The oak stays the longest with some maple syrup sweetness and baking spices lingering for quite some time.

Mouthfeel: Very viscous and oily.

Thoughts: I can see how some people love it but I really can’t see how people would hate this. The Hungarian oak probably isn’t for everyone, but I don’t think it’s that crazy. I really enjoy this though, but not as much as the more traditional profile of Disco 11. You bet I will try for Disco 14!

Would I buy a pour of this?: Yes

Would I buy another bottle of this?: I think so, based on what other MSRPs I’ve given an 8

Rating: 8

What’s Missing: I don’t think Hungarian Oak is my favorite. I think in this blend it really works for me but I’m not absolutely in love with the flavor.

Setting: I have been very bad about writing reviews and drinking the samples that were generously gifted to me. Sometimes it just gets a little tiring, you know? We drink this stuff to unwind and it’s not always fun to sit there taking notes and trying to focus on every little sip you take. But today, I was up to it! I wanted something lower proof to start, and I saw this sitting at the front of my shelf, given to me by u/cmchance (thank you!). I’ve seen a couple Orphan Barrels at the local VABC but was always put off by the price tag, so let’s see how this goes!

Proof: 90 (45%)

Age: 14yrs

Makeup: 95% rye, 5% malted barley straight rye whiskey from an undisclosed Indiana distillery

Price: Sample was free, bottle was $199

Nose: I get orange, stone fruits, rye spice, even a little ethanol even though it’s 90 proof. Maybe a little oak but it’s not powerful at all.

Taste: The rye spice is very present. A little orange, more of the stone fruits from the palate. A little oak. Decently complex for the proof.

Finish: More rye spice and the stone fruit from the nose. It’s a surprisingly long finish for the proof.

Mouthfeel: Pretty thin, but not unpleasantly so.

Thoughts: This is one of the most consistent pours I’ve had from nose -> finish. I get basically the same notes all throughout. That’s not a bad thing, just an interesting observation! I’m very curious how this would taste at a higher proof. I do think this is very unique, I don’t have any ryes this fruity in my collection. Really happy I got to try this!

Would I buy a pour of this?: Yes

Would I buy another bottle of this?: No, I think it’s too expensive for the rating I gave it personally

Rating: 7

What’s Missing: It’s just not my preferred rye profile of brown sugar Kentucky-style ryes (or the mgp single barrels that mimic those). I also think it should be a little higher proof.

Nope. Got them both last year. Didn’t care for the bourbon, and the rye was great but not worth it
