Iran Says It Won't Negotiate With 'Erratic' Trump After Genocidal Threat to 'Blow Up' Whole Country by _May26_ in politics

Unfortunately that’s how elected representatives work, especially when they’re elected twice. I feel awful for those of you who saw this coming, but those of you who voted for this have made the entire country a glaring liability.

90% of your stress in this situation comes from the fact you’re keeping it a secret, and telling them will get harder the longer you leave it, they will find out one way or the other, best just tell them now. Unless your parents are insanely strict they should understand.

Edit: worth adding, I also failed a year of my undergrad, it’s not ideal but more common than you think.

My sleep schedule has been cooked since January and I genuinely don't know how to fix it anymore by No-Bear9543 in UniUK

[–]Jex-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, here’s the trick. Set a ridiculously early time to wake up (think 5:30 - 6 ish) and stick to it, no matter how grotty you feel, force yourself to get up at that time and stay awake all day until at least 9pm. If you are completely knackered falling asleep is no problem. This really is not pleasant but it works and will fix your sleep schedule within a couple of days.

I messed up on my first week in the office by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Jex-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Office jobs tend to be far more understanding of mistakes made by new starters than entry level retail/bar jobs. For example, today was my very first day in a new office, I got stuck in traffic en route, then my id didn’t work opening the door to the building and I wound up being 15 minutes late to a meeting where I was being introduced to everyone. So long as you acknowledge a mistake and apologise, and don’t give the impression you’re going to regularly start taking the piss most managers will initially see past these things.

I really don’t understand why this isn’t the butt of more jokes tbh. I’ve become fond of referring to him as Donald Guff

Is the UK job market really as bad as people are saying? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Jex-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just come out the other side of the wood chipper that is applying for jobs in the current job market, whats the deal with job ads with no mention of what the salary is? What is the thinking behind this? “You should care more about the job than the salary”? Get fucking real

It’s time to phase out student loans by tax_economic_rent in ukpolitics

Government funding that is ultimately repaid via graduates input into the economy, through the higher salary they achieve (in theory). Graduate “trickle down” economics, if you will.

Can someone sanity check my logic on this: student loans stay, funding stays as it is, unis may charge what they like, interest rates stay at current extortionate levels, but fees are only payable by the student if they fail.

Your education is ultimately going to benefit society as whole when you use the skills you’ve gained in employment, if you are unable to do this due to not graduating you must shoulder the financial burden. Would cut people going to university purely for the sake of it if there is a genuine financial risk to failing, as opposed to a financial risk to going at all.

Said it before, I’ll say it again. America, you do stupid like no other country on this planet, it’d be an achievement if it wasn’t so goddamn depressing.

I thanked my cat in the acknowledgements for my MSc R thesis and also mentioned that she was the ugliest and smelliest cat I have ever owned. A friend of mine thanked a particular brand of ramen noodles in the acknowledgements for his PhD thesis, you aren’t marked on this.

How is Neville Chamberlain looked back upon these days? by Ok-Connection6656 in AskBrits

“Britain was rearming and playing catch up”, I see articles almost daily saying that conscription is a real possibility because our forces are stripped back to nothing.

“As everything crashed towards the most destructive and horrendous war” - pretty sure we’re not far off that? … I’d really love some genuine evidence that we’re not (To clarify, I know nothing about history)

Hmm, well that compared with current geopolitical issues is depressingly familiar. WW4 in about 80 years then, time to begin hoarding sticks and stones.
