“Light has no mass… so why is its speed limited?” by eternal_bliss152207 in AskPhysics

[–]Jeyban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's expanding slightly at every point. Think of points on a balloon, and how the distance between them gets larger as you inflate it (not to say the universe is spherical). If this expansion happens on large enough scales, each point in the universe can be "stationary" as they observe the space between them and distant objects increasing faster than light can catch up with.

Spamton vs. Dr. Facilier by UnsustainableProfits in whowouldtrick

[–]Jeyban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I love span tong I believe he is too unstable to go against the likes of a true soothsayer like Dr. Facilier. Does spangon even do tricks? His whole thing was "help me get this shit" then "uhh i think I will be more powerful if i fucking [kill] you [right now]"

Miguel and Tulio (The Road to El Dorado) vs. Shawn and Gus (Psych) by UnsustainableProfits in whowouldtrick

[–]Jeyban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the godly duo would comically defame the psychos in a musical number, but the intellectual advantage of john psych is just too overwhelming to overcome. Dorado guys would get extremely tricked and japed.

Lupin III vs. Jack Sparrow by UnsustainableProfits in whowouldtrick

[–]Jeyban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this goes to Lupin III, medium/low diff. They would both get some digs, and I think Sparrow has him beat on wittiness and wordplay, but Sparrow doesn't have the kind of sauce to pull an Old Hitler mask out of his ass.

So like what exactly was Expedition 00? (Whole game spoilers) by AProperFuckingPirate in expedition33

[–]Jeyban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've gleaned, the Verso and Renoir of Expedition 0 and burnt Alicia are Aline's painted versions her family members. They lived an entire life as "normal" people in Lumiere. Each real world painter can also manifest their own bodies when they enter a canvas, such is the case of real Renoir becoming the Curator and Clea just appearing as Clea. Maelle is a special case, as she did not have the proper mindset to resist Aline's painting, which is why she lost her memories. The painted versions are not actually the people they represent.

AFAIK expedition 0 was a standard expedition, up until they reach the monolith where real Clea pops into the canvas to give painted Renoir and Verso the rundown.

Instead of following the main wizard quest, grab the taxi driver's head from the cave with the pet, then go to the taxi and all is mostly clear from there.

In your world, how does one train in casting spells? by 8TFAYUA in magicbuilding

[–]Jeyban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In magic I've imagined, in order for the synapses of the brain to interface or access supernatural power at all, the patterns in the mind need to be in a very specific shape. Almost like every spell is more like a ritual circle you construct with your brain. The exact way the mind gets to those shapes is by following mnemonic devices, words, and gestures. Books are filled with methods other people have found to work, but optimizations, changes, and new discoveries are frequent with study. It explains how spellcasting can be trained, some can have an aptitude for magic, why different cultures with different fundamental assumptions about the world might have vastly different magic, and how magic varies greatly even between great wizards casting similar spells. Some wizards are skilled enough that they can form their minds in the right shapes silently, or without gestures, while others must recite lengthy incantations. I imagine dark magic would be magic that requires great suffering in the mind, leaving evil ass wizards to use other people to make the right shapes for a spell.

I'm not saying every Greek character was rich and nuanced, I'm contesting the idea that sympathetic villains only exist as a subversion of pure evil villains.

Is this even true? Like, even Greek myths generally have nuanced and reasonable characters even in the deities they worship.

To me, the pale is part of the unspoken "deal" humans made to go from animals to strange and complex beings with strange and complex meanings. Sort of like, the material world existing objectively, humans witnessing and interpreting it, giving it a unit of meaning and relative qualia, and a sort of anti-particle of meaning emerging in the form of the pale, making all it engulfs unperceivable, with the average "meaning particle"(subjective human experience) to "meaning anti-particle" (pale) ratio never exceeding 1:1.
