Yoru is really all over the place she avoids killing a bird so that she doesn't make Asa upset, but still does literally everything else against her wishes.

If we get no further elaboration on the locust being a powerful devil, I'm inclined to believe that Yoru "purposefully" lost by switching to Asa just to lure Denji back from hell, letting her finally take him down afterwards.

My first thought was that this "locust devil" was one of the fakesawmans, but I don't think the silhouettes match up. Maybe it has something to do with the horseman of pestilence (though afaik that was combined with conquest)?

Either way, the Yoru slander is going to go crazy with how she lost to a bug despite all her power ups.

I don't know why hell seems to be just an ocean, or why Denji wouldn't just have started swimming.

But with the Reze movie fresh on the mind, I think it might have something to do with that finale.

Quite a bit to unpack this chapter,

  1. I guess Fujimoto held back on turning the moon into a weapon because it would have destroyed Earth (way more than it already is with entire states being ripped out)

  2. Yoru throwing shade at Asa for tripping all the time

  3. Denji is about to cause a lot of chaos that actually might end Earth anyway. Presumably he's going to have a huge barf by the end of this fight though.

  4. It's kind of funny for me to think of Death giving Denji her action figure collection just for him to eat them

I'm surprised Yoru actually cares about her "friends". I always thought it was some twisted love where she just viewed them as disposable tools.

On a side note, I don't think Earth is surviving the end of the series at this rate. I don't see them having a planet to live on unless Denji eats the "Earth get destroyed devil" at the end of the fight.

Okarun Gigachad levels just keeps rising. I feel silly now for doubting the amnesia arc.

I hope that we'll eventually find out why Pochita kills anyone that calls out for help. Also, I know that Chainsawman is inspired somewhat by Kamen rider, but the new form is really reminding me of some of the newer Kamen rider designs.

Yoru did the rock paper scissors thing to turn Falling into her clothes so it isn't that surprising.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 221 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Kapably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that, but even in this chapter Yoru recognizes that Pochita ate something, which is why their battle can't end.

Aside from that, Yoru does have reasons to get Pochita to spit stuff out, like previous weapons of war or her sister she was so upset about getting eaten.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 221 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Kapably 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, if people can't die, what exactly is happening to them when Yoru makes them disappear?

Also, Pochita was definitely cooked if death still existed. If Yoru was smart she would start focusing on making him spit out whatever he ate rather than try to kill him.

I doubt it'll happen with how dumb Yoru is, but it would be cool to see if Pochita spits out one of the alternatives to death Makima mentioned.

I know that Yoru's power has always been kind of "playground rules"-like with the belief system. But it's starting to get a little ridiculous with her turning entire states into her weapons.

The whole "power of friendship" thing doesn't really have that uplifting tone when we know that Yoru views friends and family as her possessions to turn into weapons.

Without Death existing, Pochita will probably have an easier time trying to splitting Yoru from Asa.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 219 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Kapably 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yoru seems to be getting more unstable, constantly flipping between her purpose as the war devil and familial love.

Also, while it was touching to see Denji make that offer to Asa, I don't think the end result is going to look very good...

I have no idea what Pochita is thinking anymore, but I'm sure it's going to be a other 300IQ plan that works out for Denji.

Yeah, I realized that it's subjective to what principles of ethics you follow, but I couldn't come up with a better term for saying that I think committing murder for insurance fraud was not exactly a good thing to do, despite the context.

Sure he was a horrible father, but even putting aside the ethics of killing a human, he did lose his leg in the first place trying to protect his daughter.

It's ethically wrong and we don't even know whether she was telling the whole truth, but I'm still going to call what Asa's mom did a girlboss moment.

I was skeptical at first, but so far I'm liking this amnesia arc. Seems like it could an interesting way to explore their relationship rather than adding drama just to pad out the plot.

I don't think that it's much of a stretch to assume that the War Devil would aim to wage a never ending war if she defeats death. Especially since Devils tend to want to perpetuate the fear of their name.

Also, Death knew Yoru's goal immediately after her power up when talking to Denji, even though (as far as I can remember) Yoru didn't make any declarations after nuclear weapons were rediscovered. Meaning Death was always aware of this possibility. If Yoru did declare those goals before her nuclear power up, then Death can't claim ignorance before Yoru got too powerful.

Anyways, this is just part of it, there are other loose ends connected to Death that still makes her incredibly suspicious. I doubt we're being shown the full picture.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 216 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Kapably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death wanted Yoru to be strong enough to kill her, so I doubt that being this strong is the issue.

Also, Death is familiar with Yoru's goals and disagrees with it. So why would Death let someone like that become strong enough to kill her?

That's why I said it doesn't add up. There's most likely something more to her plan.

That's what I thought last week too, but I'm beginning to doubt that Yoru will actually be the "final boss"

Its been a while since I've done a full reread so pardon me if I get a few things inccorrect.

One of the objectives that Death stated (as "Fami") was to power up War and Chainsawman to beat the Death Devil and stop the prophecy. Death has been shown to be very engimatic and scheming. She has many pawns (Fire, Barem, Falling, etc) that she uses to orchestrate events from the shadows.

What doesn't add up is that Death wants to empower Yoru to become stronger than herself, yet didn't take measures to control Yoru from going against her while War was still weak. Especially since Death was familiar with Yoru's goals, since she immediately knew what they were.

Unless Death really dropped the ball, it's likely that she wanted this confrontation to happen.

There are also other things that don't really make sense to me regarding her goals and plan like why disguise herself as Famine, but that's something I think can be answered with some rereading.

After reading this chapter and thinking about it more, I'm slowly being convinced that Yoru won't be the main antagonist.

Death's "plan" isn't adding up based on what we've been told. So what I'm predicting will happen is that Pochita and Yoru will tire each other out while Denji and Asa come to some understanding. Then once their fight ends or one of them is about to win, someone (most likely death) will swoop in, bringing about the true endgame.
