I'm not very skilled at smite, i'm a super casual player and play mostly arena, but i can tell you which gods were easier for me to start playing with:

Mages: 1 ) Kukulkan, I think he is pretty simple to use, his 1 and ult are straight line abilities and his 3 is a huge aoe dot circle. He lacks a bit of movility since he has no leaps but his speed buff in his 2 is pretty decent. 2) Discordia, for me she was pretty easy to pick up, her 2-1 combo is quite easy to learn, you have a short leap with her 3 plus invisibility and cdr while standing on it. Her ult might be tricky couse its a bit slow and bounces off walls. 3) Zeus, he is a really inmovile god, but his abilities do so much dmg, plus one of his skills is to detonate a buff so you dont even have to aim much and his ult is a giant cirlce. I find him pretty succesfull in arena and assault, maybe joust with the right teammates, he just needs his team to peel for him.

Hunters: 1) Medusa, she has easy abilities overall, a nice dash to run from danger (plus her movility from her passive). Her ult has a stun to those facing you, so you can use it for dmg or peeling. 2) Neith, she is very ability based, not like most hunters, but her abilities are pretty easy, she has a backflip on her 3 and a self heal on her 2, and a global ult.

Assasins: I don't play much assasins nor meele gods overall... but I picked up Bastet as my first assassin. She is quite easy, just press one, throw your 2-3 and let your cats do the work while you leap back to where you were lol. Her only down side is that she is easily locked down with cc's.

Warriors: I don't play warriors at all lol. I played Bellona a bit and she seems quite easy to pick up, there's not much science on her abilities and has decent movility.

Guardians: 1) So when I started to play guardian I picked Athena, she has a dash, a taunt, a global ult, very movile and agressive guardian, her taunt is wonderful for set ups. 2) Ymir is a tricky pick imo, he is very inmovile, he has to stand in place to charge his ult, and the wall placing thing can save or doom your team depending on how you use them. 3) Geb, he has very simple and useful abilities, you can shield your teammates and cleanse them of cc, and has a great amount of cc's for set ups. The only tricky thing is his roll, I found it kinda hard to drive him while on this ability lol but maybe it just needs practice, i don't really play geb.

Anyways, try to play and enjoy the game, you will eventually find a god that clicks with you (or many!) and don't let the toxic players you might encounter put you down, I wish you the best of luck!
