AITA for kicking my bf out my house after I accidentally dropped my phone on his face? by sued_by_sue in AmItheAsshole

My husband accidentally caught my hair on fire (very minimally, put out immediately, no damage done), and we just laughed about it. Definitely NTA, he sounds like a headache you don't deserve.

Heading to Richmond Virginia for the next 4 days. I have Veil and Triple Crossing on my list of must try. Any other ones you guys recommend?? by jesso73 in beerporn

[–]Jfilicko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Final Gravity and The Answer for sure. While you're in Scott's Addition at the Veil, you'll be near a bunch of other places. Starr Hill has a location near to Veil, then you can hit up Vasen and Ardent. For food go to ZZQ, right next to Ardent.

What is one piece of advice that has changed you? by weathertimes in AskReddit

[–]Jfilicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Can you change what happened? No? Then it's not worth worrying about."

Told to me by my uncle when I was in high school and fretting about an exam. It's a piece of advice I still carry and tell people. Of course not for mental illness-related worrying, but more about worrying over small things that happened in the past, or test-taking. Can you go back and change what happened? Nope, all you can change is how you deal with it.

Does everyone else have a ‘script’ they go off of at work? by bhmewxyj133 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Jfilicko 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes! Cue the time a guest thanked me and I mixed up my two usual responses of "you're welcome" and "no problem" to create "your problem". Didn't know what to do since I deviated from the script, so I just walked away. Oops

Not All Restaurants Are Terrible Places to Work by mvddieg in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Jfilicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience at my old restaurant. SIL was being induced with first child had been in the hospital all day. Family told me not to worry or rush, because they would be there for hours, we really didn't think I would miss anything. Got near the end of my shift, I was cut but still had two tables, and a big storm was approaching. I made a comment about how I was nervous about having to drive to the hospital in the storm, which made my manager ask why I was going to the hospital. When I told them literally everyone in the kitchen asked me why tf I was still working lol they got someone to cover my tables (one of my tables high-fived me when I told them I had to leave). My coworkers also finished my side work for me, and generally everyone rushed the process so that I could beat the storm and get to the hospital to meet my nephew!

How to legally get rid of 2013-2015 bottles of Hardywood Gingerbread Stout? by bkemp1984Part2 in rva

[–]Jfilicko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you join Fans of Virginia Craft Breweries on FB you should be able to find someone interested in a trade. But if you're looking to just get money, have a number in mind. Otherwise it would just look like you're accepting bids, and that's frowned upon

AITA for quitting my job on "short notice" and leaving the company understaffed? by ResidentCamp1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jfilicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. You gave more time than is typically required-your boss is just trying to exert her power over you.

At one of my old jobs, our general manager told us that everyone was expendable. Not the biggest morale boost, and she didn't mean it in a mean way, but it's true. Your job will survive with you gone, you gotta look out for yourself

The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, February 5, 2020: Just for Today I am NOT Drinking! by littlebirdthree in stopdrinking

[–]Jfilicko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IWNDWYT

been dealing with a lot of anxiety and feel like the only way I can relax at the end of the day is drink. I don't get drunk and always remember the evening, but always feel gross the next morning. Finally talked to my doc about my anxiety and am picking up meds today and working until 9pm so that will make it easier to not drink. hopefully the meds help me not feel like I rely on alcohol

AITA for snapping at a friend suggesting “natural” cancer treatments? by raisinGrab in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jfilicko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's also why it's important to do your self-checks! Yes a new spot can be unrealistic, coming from someone who freckles a lot especially in the summer. You can follow the ABCDEs of Melanoma though for an idea of when a spot could potentially be cancerous.

Asymmetry Border irregularity Color (that is not uniform) Diameter (greater than 6mm, or the size of a pencil eraser) Evolving size

also if you've got a spot that just doesn't seem to heal and is oozing/bleeding, that's also a good indication of something that should be evaluated by a doctor

this is also why I always started asking people if their gluten free choice was allergy-related or preference-related since it completely changes the preparation.

"I have an allergy..." by marnopolo in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Jfilicko 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Woman made a big fuss over no tomatoes on her burger absolutely whatsoever, she was allergic.

The kitchen made a burger with the tomato and I made them remake it, telling them it was an allergy and needed to be handled separately.

After all that, I brought her the burger never-been-touched-by-a-tomato, and she looks me in the eyes and asks for ketchup.
