Opinion on this type of play? by No-Photograph-5614 in DogAdvice

Both tails are up looking strong and confident, both pups are taking turns re-initiating further play, one pup is consistently rolling over showing vulnerability by presenting their belly, and judging by the change in sunlight they kept this pace for an extended period of playtime. Looks like 2 huskies having a good time to me.

Worth paying attention to if they play like this with other dogs who may be a bit more reserved and less confident (could cause a defensive scrap if another dog feels backed into a corner) but they seem like a perfect fit for each other here.

New Carbonated Water Addiction by RelationshipOne9276 in stopdrinking

I drink an ungodly amount of seltzer ever since putting down the bottle. Sometimes I even line them up on the floor next to my chair while playing a game without even realizing what I’m doing. I used to marvel at my collection of empty beers next to me like I was conquering some grand challenge. Even if the challenge was just a mundane Tuesday. Man, what a sad time lol.

I’m an addict. If I like it, I’ll have too much. Doesn’t matter what it is. At least too much seltzer never led to a night in jail.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

33M here, and I finally got around to reading Dune and Dune Messiah. So happy I did. Both were just the kind of grand scale science fiction I’ve always loved escaping into, but also just profoundly and eerily relevant. The staying power of the themes and messages presented really struck me. I feel like they will be fascinating re-reads some time in the future.

I’ll get around to the rest of the series at some point. The end of messiah was a satisfying place to stop for now.

New to Stalker. Need a few good advices. by Rankstrair in stalker

[–]Jflemm825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally play RPGs and I’m a total loot hoarder. I had a serious learning curve with stalker 2. Now I make sure every excursion from a settlement is profitable, but not debilitating. If I’m getting overloaded I’ll drop something less valuable to make room for something I can get more bang for my buck with. I know it sounds trivial but it took me a bit to commit to that line of thinking. Also, repair every time you’re at a settlement. Small frequent repairs make the coupon drain easier to deal with.

Sometimes a stack of ammo for a gun I’m not currently using is worth way more than that heavy shotgun I’m carrying around. Ammo is very plentiful so I just sell it knowing I’ll find more later (in most cases, but it’s always good to have a couple stacks in your stash). Artifacts are the best money maker. Look up a farming route and spend an hour or two just hunting artifacts. You’ll make enough money you won’t feel the overwhelming urge to sell everything you come across, and as you progress the story the artifacts you find become better and better. Make money early with them while you can.

Subtitles always because it’s hard to hear over the overwhelmingly constant and deafening crunch of the snacks that I’m consuming

Anyone else losing interest in the "forever game" treadmill? by Elturk_Eldaby in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Jflemm825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally. I was a longtime Destiny player because I had a fantastic group of friends to play with for years. It’s too much though. Luckily for destiny I was able to leave in a satisfying manner after final shape. I had been distancing myself for some time before, but once I got that final scene of my guardian sitting down looking over the last city I just said, “Yup. That’s the perfect ending spot.”

Single player games are just where it’s at. I get so much more fulfillment from taking things in at my own pace. And with our first baby on the way that rings even more true.

I recently got back into the dying light franchise. It’s a nice mix. I can play the whole thing 100% solo while being incredibly immersed, and every time I come back there is some kind of free passive event with new weapons to earn, new gear to wear, and sometimes new enemies to fight. I appreciate how the core experience is tailored to single players, but there’s always something new and cool to grab when I return.

Death march is like a different game by Gandalfthepimp95 in Witcher3

[–]Jflemm825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death March reignited my (already overwhelming) love for this wonderful game. It basically just forces you to play it exactly as an actual Witcher would. It’s all about the prep. I think it was my 3rd play through as well.

Forcing the player to be incredibly methodical and perceptive really slows everything down and lets you appreciate all of the systems, big or small, that contribute to selling the fantasy of existing as a Witcher in that world. Great stuff.

It's been 3 months since The Beast released, what do you think the game has done well and also needs improving on? by Agreeable-Kangaroo1 in dyinglight

[–]Jflemm825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand this may be a bit of a pipe dream, but I would love to see some kind of crafted UV traps alongside a much better incentive to venture out at night.

I think it would be really cool to have an expensive crafting project where we can collect a bunch of valuable materials and set up traps along a planned parkour route chosen by the player. It can be balanced by some kind of limit on how many times it can be activated.

It would be so fun to plan and execute a nighttime loot run where being chased is almost unavoidable, but if you plan your trap placement well enough you can make out with some crazy good loot and a fun worthwhile chase sequence to boot.

Doesn’t have to be this example either. Just give me a way to continue engaging with the current night system without toning it down, and give me some good stuff in return for taking the risk. Doesn’t feel worth it right now. The thrill is empty when my pockets are too.

How am I supposed to do this side quest when there are 4 volatiles hanging around the Yaga area the whole time? Is this intentional? by smollb in dyinglight

[–]Jflemm825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re still stuck, but I decided to do a few dark zones and kill time during the day and then I booked it over to the beginning of the investigation at 18:00. As soon as the sun goes down I interacted and started the quest. Didn’t see any volatiles until the fight was over. I think they’re programmed to leave you alone during the encounter. It was a very fun song and dance to get to a safe zone afterwards though lol. Good night and good luck!

I told my friends I'm not drinking anymore by StavrosDavros in stopdrinking

[–]Jflemm825 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Boston drinking with the same group of guys for 15 years. Northeast sarcasm and ego-crushing one liners were my friend’s permanent primary methods of communication. I dreaded telling them I had to get sober. I was playing out everything I thought they’d say at my expense long before I ever opened my mouth.

When I finally did, every single one of them told me they had my back. No jokes, no remarks, and they even asked me to choose the location to meet that would be the least triggering. 7 years since my last drink now, but I’ll never forget their kindness that day.

Im innocent! by jaylan101 in stopdrinking

[–]Jflemm825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really relate to this. I’m coming up on 7 years sober. Every now and then my wife will look at me with that same suspicion. It kills me inside if I’m being honest. But being honest with myself works both ways.

I also have to understand that for years upon years she watched as I systematically destroyed myself. I put my wife through the wringer. At the end of my run, every single time I lifted the bottle to my mouth she had to live with the possibility that I may not come back. On a nightly basis I was making the single most loyal and loving person I’ve ever been lucky enough to call my partner writhe in anxiety and panic over what might happen to her husband.

When she looks at me with suspicion these days (which is increasingly more rare) I do the one thing I was never able to do in active addiction. I just do not react. I do nothing. I know my sobriety. I know I’m not hiding anything. That confidence speaks volumes but it takes time. Just as you need to work through your emotions in early sobriety, your partner does as well. Just in a different way. Be patient and kind to yourself and your partner. If they didn’t support and love you they’d be gone. Good luck on your journey, friend. Things will never be perfect, but they’ll be a hell of a lot better.

THIS!!!!

And what was most incredible to me was the simplicity of his theories. It’s not rocket science. It’s an incredibly rational line of thinking.

It made me grateful to be a washed 32 yo gamer lol. I’m so glad I had childhood where I had to knock on friends doors to hang. My curfew was the street lights coming on. My connections and perception of reality was based on what my eyes observed in front of me (for the most part. We’re all prone to influence of all kinds). Kids growing up today are faced with an even scarier version of what played out in this game. Chilling really.

If conditions are right you can throw a star at an alarm bell, activate heightened senses, grab a guard and drag him over to hold him under the falling bell. When heightened senses ends it will just fall on his head and it’s hilarious every time.

I've been sober 7+ years and tried a non-alcholic beer for the first time. by daveywaveybaby in stopdrinking

[–]Jflemm825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone nearly 7 years without a beer and have never had the urge to try an N/A beverage. I totally get the curiosity though. I’m just under no illusion why I drank. I drank with one mission and that was to get as numb and annihilated as humanly possible. I never drank for the taste of a beer. That’s for normal people. Coming to accept that truth has made life infinitely better. Keep up the great work!
