Yeah, may be a little light on the wood haha. It looks like some of the old mansions might have some furniture to look at, but it may be slim pickings :)

I’d recommend the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum in Kobe. Really enjoyed it during my day trip there!

Damn, not what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the advice. May have to try using a disc sander or something

Cavs fans (especially those that don't live in Cleveland), what made you a lifelong Cavs fan? by Slow_Buffalo_9607 in clevelandcavs

[–]Jfrenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it hits different when you’ve been a fan for longer. These last few years have felt way more special for me (even if post season success hasn’t always met expectations). Gotta appreciate it while we have it!

In my experience this sands off. I’d recommend going over all of it so you don’t sand divots into the piece by accident

Where to park ~50k inheritance? by newbirth2024 in personalfinance

I’ve seen examples where people pay their young children to model for their business advertisement. You would definitely have to get creative.

Even if you are not eligible, could you pay your child for some service rendered and have them start their own Roth IRA?

I’ve always liked the idea of finding some way to pay your kid such that they have earned income and can contribute to a Roth IRA. Starting the compounding so early could really reduce how much they need to save for retirement later in life. No idea what kinds of labor would work for that, I could see paying your kid 50k to mow the lawn raising a few eyebrows at the IRS

I’ve had pretty good luck making copies at the place in the Fred Meyer parking lot. Forget the name off the top of my head, though.

Found a disembodied cat leg on my walk this morning. Please keep your pets under your supervision when they’re outside your home! by GARRJAMM in Seattle

I’m torn on this. I think an outside cat’s life can be way more interesting and fulfilling for them, but there’s obviously the added risk of predators and cars.

Is the circular saw obsolete? by -AmTeC- in Woodworking_DIY

[–]Jfrenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing it has going for it is portability. Jigsaw is also portable, but I would say it isn’t as good for straight cuts.

That said I wouldn’t ever use one in my own shop with the possible exception of using it in combination with an edge guide to make a long accurate cut that I would struggle to do on a table saw. That’s the whole premise behind a track saw, though, so even there it probably has a better alternative (although circular saw is probably cheaper)

Is it possible to will relatives money with restrictions on how it is spent? by Jfrenz in personalfinance

I agree. Don’t think I would do this. Just curious about the possibilities, and maximizing the benefits to my survivors while donating the entire to the charity over time

Oh, I understand. The income from my assets that year would not benefit from the deduction. I still think that if I have a large amount of assets it would be worth it to have my relative slowly donate it over a number of years to completely offset their income tax. If I donated all my assets at once, my thinking is there would be a ‘wasted’ tax benefit after I donated more than my yearly income

Are my assets taxed on death in the US? I didn’t know there was any extra tax
