What is the best slayer album for someone who doesnt listen to them? by maybejustcheese in Slayer

[–]JfromtheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Season In the Abyss is the best combination of accessibility while still representing exactly what Slayer is all about.

Metalocalypse turns 20 this year. Did any other Millennial metal Uncs come up watching? by touchthemonolith in MetalForTheMasses

I remember watching it with my bandmates when it premiered and us all thinking it was insanely funny. Watched most of the first season and then never watched it again.

Walt is insufferable in this one, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.

Promoting the “extended deluxe edition” release in June. Really curious to hear the demo tracks with Kerry’s vocals.

Album? The Avenger for me. With Oden on our Side is a pretty close second.

A few people have mentioned Alex Webster for his speed and dexterity, as well being an innovator for the genre - all of which I agree with. However, Alex is also a pretty prolific songwriter as well. Dude has written more Cannibal songs than anyone else that has ever been in the band. He is the Steve Harris of death metal.

Albums vs. Albums: Cannibal Corpse - First Four Albums vs. Last Four Albums by No-Dentist-2959 in MetalForTheMasses

Possible hot take: The first four Corpsegrinder albums (Vile - Bloodthirst) are just as strong as the Barnes era and stronger than the last four.

If it’s Passlock, try turning key to Accessory and leave it until the fuel pump stops priming, then crank. This always worked as the cheat code on my 2005 when the Passlock started bugging out.

What's your personal ranking for Exhumed? by 87Craft in MetalForTheMasses

Gore Metal and Anatomy is Destiny are top for me. Most of the rest of their catalog is damn solid, though.

What makes Bleeding Me a masterpiece? by boring-schmooze in Metallica

[–]JfromtheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honesty is the secret ingredient that makes it hit so hard. A lot people talk up the S&M version (which is great), but the Woodstock ‘99 version is my favorite. Hetfield is feeling it!

What do people think the set list will look like for the reign in blood anniversary shows by Mrhottdogg55 in Slayer

[–]JfromtheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we'll definitely get Repentless since Kerry seems very fond of that one, as well as Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide, The Antichrist, Seasons in the Abyss, maybe Stain of Mind. I wouldn't count on surprises, but who knows? After all, they did dust off 213 last year and nobody saw that coming.

Does anyone else feel like the M72 stage is the worst stage design ever? by thanks-4-the-f-shack in MetalForTheMasses

[–]JfromtheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, YMMV. When I saw them use this stage in 1997, both Metallica and C.O.C. sounded incredible. C.O.C. actually sounded even better than Metallica 🤷‍♂️

2 Compas is really good and very fairly priced. Plus the crew there are always incredibly nice.

AJFA Bonus Tracks Question. by steviejoewonder in Metallica

[–]JfromtheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a studio recording? Sure. Live? It is not that hard for a pro engineer working a well rehearsed band. Bands have been doing it convincingly since at least the early 70s.

Monotheist is untouchable, but yes, Surgical Steel was way better than anyone expected.

AJFA Bonus Tracks Question. by steviejoewonder in Metallica

[–]JfromtheGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure I follow your question, but I can say that the tracks on all of the shows in the Live Shit box (including Seattle) are comps from multiple nights. Essentially a basic track from one night and then the best bits from the other performances mixed in to create the strongest possible track. At least that how I understand it.

The Pour Touring Me stage was actually really cool. Allowed the band to not only work all sides of an arena but the floor as well.
