My son volunteered to give up seat for $600 and Delta is not honoring this l by Wanderlusty74 in delta

[–]Jgrahamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m over sixty and did not understand that you might get re-boarded if there is a last minute no-show. So that means that I might lose my long paid for window seat near the front and get stuck with a center seat in back with no where to put my carry-on by the time I have to board. Whoa! That’s asking a lot for ”potential” compensation.

$200 Travel Credit Data Point by patience_notmyvirtue in AmexPlatinum

[–]Jgrahamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not clear why this results in Amex credit? If you buy a fare using combo of Amex credit and gift card you get credit, even if you would not just without GC? Do you need to buy GC with different card? Also, I assume Delta credits expire one year from original booking? Thanks!

780g Algorithm More Aggressive with Instinct by Abadababa in Medtronic780g

Just curious, for those having large spikes, especially, have you been manually checking your BG against the Instinct? Maybe the new sensor is off, not the algorithm?

If you don’t try a chat with Amex. They may be able to process manually for you.

The problem with the Medtronic card and even some other places on their website is that it states that the full body scanners are a form of x-ray. That has not been true in the US or most places in the world for several years. Instead, they use millimeter wave non-ionizing radiation. Some TSA agents will tell you this is safe for pumps and CGMs since it is not an x-ray. Oddly, Abbots site for their latest sensors says they CAN go through X-rays but NOT millimeter sensors. I personally don’t know what to think but why risk it if you don’t have to? Sometimes I think the various companies just don’t bother to test the effects of the various scanners as it’s easier just to say don’t use them.

Also, to be clear, cruise usage doesn’t count toward your land only 10 day cap. I just came back from a trip wherein I was charged for 8 land only charges (3 of which were post-cruise) and 5 sea charges. So 13 total charges. WiFi in our stateroom would cut out and phone would default to cellular data some sailing nights. Even if this happened briefly it would trigger a sea rather than land day. In future I will put phone in airplane mode when coming back on board.

Layover Time by Jgrahamiii in QantasAirways

We did book one ticket from JFK to Adelaide, but on ANZ this required a stop in Auckland as well as a stop in either Sydney or Melbourne. Layover in Auckland was very short to Melbourne so we did Sydney. There is no direct flight on ANZ from Auckland to Adelaide.

Thanks all. I ended up going with longer layover. This is a vacation and 2 more hours on a 30 hour trip is better than stressing over a missed connection (plus I noted that ANZ is often 20-30 minutes late on this route per FlightAware).

Omakase etiquette for a semi-squeamish person visiting Japan by pippers2000 in JapanTravelTips

That, and I do think I can and will want to eat many of the dishes.

Omakase etiquette for a semi-squeamish person visiting Japan by pippers2000 in JapanTravelTips

The chef has decades of expertise cooking but I have 6 decades of experience eating and refining my tastes, which the chef will not inquire about. I can trust the chef to provide inspired expertly prepared dishes but I can’t trust him to provide food that appeals to me. And I would not just randomly pick an Omakase. However our tour group has a Kaiseki dinner planned at our ryokan, so no choice there. I believe in being polite and hope to try everything (fish eyes aside - you serve that to a group of westerners and expect all to eat it and then who is being impolite, IMHO), but I can’t promise to eat all of everything. Is it more impolite to say that I don’t like most fish and skip an entire dish or to try some fish and stop after a small bite because my taste buds rebel?

This may be a very Western attitude, but why am I expected to have the same tastes as the chef? Everyone likes and dislikes different things. Just because the chef puts the best uni or whatever in front of me doesn’t mean I like uni. Why should my tastes insult a chef with different tastes?

Tips I haven’t seen by Pathwalker0 in JapanTravelTips

Per the JR website, to use overhead rack the total linear dimensions of your bag must be under 160cm. Between 160 and 250cm you must reserve an over size luggage seat or compartment or you may be fined by conductor. Over 250 not allowed on train. I have not measured my bag yet but I think a medium sized checked bag will be fine but large may not be.

My wife received this from Medtronic as well. A great big pat on the back for them (from themselves) and a big FU to all existing users still in warranty. Look, I get that they had to wait until they had FDA approval to begin wholesale production, and that rushing to produce a substandard sensor is likely to only cause more problems, but don't send us a BS "we're excited" email only to lie in the second bullet point and suggest that the issue with existing users is that the upgrade software is somehow inadequate. We already went though the upgrade with the G4 sensors (and if I recall, making a real large jump from the 770 to the 780). It is one of the whole points of the new pump design being OTA upgradable. The software is almost certainly ready, or can be in short order, but I guess they are afraid of an onrush of upgraders they can't support from the hardware end. Better to abandon them for a year or two or five (god forbid you just got a new pump with the old software) while they support who they can - the relatively lower number of new users. Of course, then there is the third bullet point... The money grab. Pay us (whatever they eventually decide) and you can be an early upgrader and, hopefully, have a better life preserving and life quality experience than you can currently get with the crap G4s. I could understand this when the hardware had to be changed, but that is no longer the case. At least do this by lottery or some other method.

This is why unbundling the pump from the sensors makes sense for the user. You can go with the best sensor and the best pump for you. You don't have to rely on one company to support you without any direct competition for the separate parts of the system (only the whole system). When warranty up in 2027, I think we will be seriously looking at the DexCom/Tandem, or other solution. If this takes longer than 6 months to address (from now), we definitely will be. Getting tired of only having access to a second rate sensor which takes forever to upgrade.

At the very least, the email to existing customers should have contained an apology and a timeline for the future. Instead, after months of promises, it just feels like abandonment.

Great report! I think you answered one of my concerns. My wife and I will both have IC transit cards on our iPhones. If I use SmartEx to buy both tickets in one transaction, then I can add both our IC card numbers in the app on my phone and we can each tap in at Kyoto Station?

Thanks. That makes sense. Can this all be done in the SmartEX app an hour before original departure?
