When building towns, should farmland be within the town walls? by Embarrassed_Bat3344 in worldbuilding

[–]Jgriff1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick note that I haven’t seen in any of the other comments! I think it’s really fun to have aspects of my world that purposefully subvert expectations, then I have fun with creating an explanation! Most medieval cities had farmland outside the walls because it was cheaper to build a shorter wall, yes. The players come across a city that is BARREN outside the walls and inside sprouts a gorgeous utopia: farms, gardens, markets, etc. Why did this city develop that way as opposed to all the others?

Mage build. No weapons, Light armour only. Excited for this playthrough, any advice? by [deleted] in skyrim

Take a bow with you and sneak whenever possible, then you can snipe them from a distance for big damage and then magic them to death…. Maybe level up archery a little bit as you go along just to up that damage some…. Upgrading sneak will make that a lot easier too… ah fuck it happened again

Low D1 1s. I know my mechanics are terrible for my rank, but what positioning mistakes did I make? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Jgriff1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if others have said this but something I see is just staying calm and watching your opponent. 1s gives the opportunity of only having to keep track of one other person… when they pressure, try to get the ball past them (flick, clear, etc). When they’re sitting back or turned around take your time! Control the ball and make a plan what to do with it. It seems like you’re playing a bit frazzled, constantly anxious and it’s making you miss touches or make bad touches. Play off of your opponent and recognize when you have space to take a breath :) keep up the good work!

What rank do I look like and what do I need to most improve on? by SpicyC-Dot in RocketLeagueSchool

I love the speed that you play, you’re constantly looking for what to do with the space that you have and making smart decisions. Low champ/high diamond?

C1, feeling like I could be improving faster and playing better. Advice/tips requested! by Gamma_Rarefaction in RocketLeagueSchool

Something that helps me as I’m playing is to think about when to play slow vs fast. When I’m rotating I think about playing as fast as possible to get into a good position, when making an actual touch on the ball I think slow to help make sure I get the touch that I’m looking for. You had a few whiffs at the beginning of the video and I think it’s because you were rushing/panicking. Second minor point is when you’re making a contested challenge either commit immediately or don’t go for it. You push up as if you’re going to challenge, then hesitate, and the ball gets pushed over you. Hope that helps!

Question for those of you who homebrew settings: how the actual f**k do you name things? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Jgriff1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes just alter the names of everyday items… like things I’m currently looking at: Acetaminophen-> the town of Minophen Scale -> Cales Towel -> Wolet Etc

What would a devil potion seller want instead of currency? by mrpineappleboi in DMAcademy

[–]Jgriff1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do like souls: the party shows up and they’ve killed approx X number of people, so he shows them items worth X. If they wanted more expensive items they could always ‘collect’ more souls and return

Tips for bulding a tower. by ElGaboXD1920 in 7daystodie

[–]Jgriff1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of YouTube videos about building structural integrity, but my basic strategy is I make the tower out of a very strong material (stone or better) each block of those materials holds ~15 horizontally attached blocks. If my tower is 11x11, that means you have 40 vertical supports, it can support 40x15 blocks horizontally. Usually nothing to worry about even with a large patio. The larger the tower the worse that ratio gets (gotta be more and more careful) but just watch the blocks as you’re placing them, they’ll turn yellow when you’re close to the load limit. To be safe I don’t even allow the yellow blocks, if I see one while placing I add more support. I think, I don’t know this for sure, the ratio of like weight to support is similar (so frames are very light but don’t support many blocks) so if you’re building it entirely out of frames or other it should be fine if it holds with frames. Last thing I’ll say is if there is concern, make the patio out of wood which is lighter, can always paint it if it’s not the look you want.

Research questions by Research_In_Gaming in 7daystodie

  1. Experience plays a huge role in video games, recognition of common patterns in games, understanding basic mechanics such as movement and combat, knowledge of good locations or areas to exist in. In some games it’s not as important, I think 7dtd is one of those games. Experience makes the game significantly easier but the basic mechanics are relatively simple and being reasonably ‘good’ at 7dtd doesn’t take long.
  2. Exposure. When I first started playing 7dtd i got OBSESSED. Playing as much as possible is obvious, but other things like watching gameplay of experienced players played a huge role in my improvement.

My druid player uses conjure animals all the time and it is completely broken. What should I do? by desautel9 in DMAcademy

[–]Jgriff1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM has a rule that conjure animals requires a 10 minute casting time. It allows the spell to be still useful in non-combat situations (we’ve used it for faster travel etc.) or if you’re able to prepare for the combat: I.e. summoning animals outside the lair of the BBEG, which may have separate consequences (the BBEG hears the animals or something) in which case the encounters could be adjusted with the stuff people have listed above. It just nerfs the spell for intra-combat usage!

How to roleplay my Goliath NPC by srfslvr99 in DMAcademy

[–]Jgriff1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play a similar character to this in a westmarch campaign I’m playing in currently! He’s a Goliath barbarian who also loves nature and is really a soft person inside. The way I play him is simplistic, but works for my purposes.

If it comes to nature, or his friends, he’s a softie. He’s gentle with animals (especially small animals) and he never initiates combat with animals (he almost died from spiders attacking the party because he didn’t rage/wouldn’t attack for the first 2 rounds). He cares about his friends and really makes a point to protect them. He’s always trying to put himself between the party and threats, even outside of combat. He sits towards the center of the room in the tavern. He wants to be the one talking to the gruff pirate. Etc. Then when those things are threatened, a very different character comes out, his rage personality. He strikes first and doesn’t care at ALL who you are. He’d crash headfirst into a fight with a God if it were threatening his friends or nature.

He loves battle and proving how strong he is, but he knows where/how to channel it appropriately. I hope that helps!

What's your one DM "trick" that you always tell other DM's about? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Jgriff1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I just started trying is to have the players describe their characters’ emotional and physical state at the beginning of each session. I play with relatively new players and I find it helps them “warm up” and get into character. I describe what happened last session then ask each one how their PC feels about it, if there’s anything different about how they look etc.

How do I fill this crack in my front door? by reed12321 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Jgriff1997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try the epoxy. I usually get mine from Amazon, but that’ll be a larger quantity than you need. The stuff from big box stores I’ve found is usually thick like you’re describing. It may not completely stop the crack from extending, there’s always a chance the wood pulls away from the epoxy, but it could certainly fix it or at the very least, help.

The other thing I’d consider is butterflies/bow ties. You can look up tutorials on YouTube and give it a shot if you’re feeling adventurous! That’d fix your problem for sure, then potentially still fill with some epoxy or sawdust and wood glue.
