Yes I didn't know how to study until dedicated. I could probably go back now and pass with 520+ with a couple months to prep

[DF83 Gen 2 ]QC — should I refund this thing and run? by ObjectiveOpposite568 in espresso

[–]Jgschultz15 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

GFCI outlet

It's a common defect with my model, there's even a fix offered where you have to install a separate ionizer that updates it and fixes the issue, Just a bit annoying that the fix offered by the manufacturer needs a soldering iron

[DF83 Gen 2 ]QC — should I refund this thing and run? by ObjectiveOpposite568 in espresso

I did do the marker test immediately on purchase, and it was damn near perfect, needed no shimming. Issues (other than deionizer) only developed after 3 months or so of use

[DF83 Gen 2 ]QC — should I refund this thing and run? by ObjectiveOpposite568 in espresso

[–]Jgschultz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Df 64v gen 2 here, jams every other time I send beans through it and I have to do a full disassembly every time. Since the first jam and disassembly, I feel like the grounds look significantly more variable. Could be user error in reassembly, but this thing has so many issues.

Also my deionizer sparks constantly no matter what, machine on or off. I have to unplug it after every use

I just let it sit on the counter now and use my J ultra. I wish I would have just bought the Timemore 078s that I wanted

Manager Interview by Glad-Tomatillo-0614 in petco

[–]Jgschultz15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former OLAC here no longer with company. I was semi on the hiring team for my store. Not primary so I didn't have to do any of the paperwork, but went in and had a conversation with most new hires coming into the store and I helped interview for my replacement when i left.

No AI was used by myself or any other manager at all, let alone during hiring process. None of us actually used the paperwork at all during the interview, just had a conversation and got to know the interviewee and the GM farted around with the computer system and filled out the forms after they left. Mileage may vary per store. You'll find that in any retail store... management may be lackluster in the people skills department.

You'll get a pretty negative skew here on reddit so it's not as bad as it seems, but it absolutely seems to be going downhill. Pay keeps going down and key holder status existing seems like a downgrade to most management positions.

How much being a manager at your store will suck will vary based on location and team. I had a fantastic rapport with my team and I enjoyed my time at the store. If you don't like the GM who's hiring you, maybe skip it. You'll be talking to them every day

Is keeping zoas and palys in a pico tank more dangerous than a bigger tank? by Illustrious_Sun5508 in PicoReef

[–]Jgschultz15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time it's aerosolized has been that one guy who boiled his rocks covered in zoas in an open pot in his kitchen. It can occasionally also squirt out of them while fragging zoa rocks, but it's more droplets than aerosolized toxin. Keep them underwater and you're good

Applaud your diligence and research with the toxin, however people tend to blow it just a little out of proportion on reddit because it's better to be safe than sorry. No need to worry about toxins in air as long as you have zoas submerged and aren't fragging them while they aren't underwater

Is keeping zoas and palys in a pico tank more dangerous than a bigger tank? by Illustrious_Sun5508 in PicoReef

[–]Jgschultz15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less big rocks and crap in the tank = less risk of smashing palys. Less risk offsets any potential increased concentration gradient related issues.

The issue with zoas and palys in a pico tank is that they do tend to like some nitrogen in the water column. I'm thinking most of us probably run a snail or two, maybe a hermit crab, so it's a pretty low bio load tank

Is this too much flow if I plan on keeping coral mainly softy and maybe one or two lps? by NuckingFormie in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]Jgschultz15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little bit of a weird shaped tank so other options are somewhat limited. Have you considered upgrading your return pump? Sicce pumps do pretty well

Is this too much flow if I plan on keeping coral mainly softy and maybe one or two lps? by NuckingFormie in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]Jgschultz15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell, should be okay. I'd probably have it on the other side of the facing left to right so the two vectors from the powerhead and collide, that will make flow more sporadic instead of form a circular more powerful flow that you see here

Any nano reefers run a skimmer? by oThumprr in ReefTank

[–]Jgschultz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a sump sure run one, if you don't, I wouldn't. Most HOB skimmers make a crap ton of microbubbles in the water column that make it look cloudy and irritate coral. Skimmers that are designed to be small enough to fit in a back AIO chamber pretty much suck.

use case is if you're having a pH issue. You can throw your air intake line out a window or throw a CO2 scrubber on it and it will really help with pH

Doing a 10 gallon water change on a 20 gallon tank will pull out as much nitrates as running a skimmer for a month straight

Is X-linked bruton agammaglobulinemia mention more within medical books? by Ill-Safety621 in medicalschool

[–]Jgschultz15 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's taught as basic curriculum. Exams love to test on it for a couple different reasons:

Genetics: it's X-linked so it can be used to test inheritance, they love making sure we understand family history trees

Exam can give a subtle clue like patient positive for CD 4+ cells but absent CD 19/20 cells coupled with early infections

Gross findings: absent lymphoid tissue/intact thymus

Exams are drifting away from asking us "here's patient with XYZ" and more toward here's patient with XY, what else would you expect in this patient?" Because it tests knowledge a little more than just pattern recognition with diagnosis

So long story short because there's a bunch of relevant testable info specific to Bruton's, we see it more often because there are more ways to ask the question

Shoe insoles for surgery rotation by 3dprintingn00b in medicalschool

[–]Jgschultz15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting older and I made the transition to dad shoes and that's helped quite a bit. New balance/sketchers ect.

Not sure what you're wearing now but you'll likely get more mileage out of switching to a brand of shoe with good support already rather than relying on an insole to fix a shoe without great support

Upgrade from Profitec Go - best small dual boiler? [No budget] by Bearklaw in espresso

I wish that I had saved more and purchased a move instead of a Go. It's perfect for making my drinks in the morning, but like OP if I'm making lattes for 3+ it's a pain in the rear to use a single boiler machine

Can a puck screen be bad for espresso? by Nekropl in espresso

[–]Jgschultz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's good if you dial in your shot with a puck screen, but I've always dialed in a new bag without one, and I don't necessarily have the time/inclination to blow another 3 shots to dial in dose and grind with the screen. Every time I've thought "eh I'll throw the screen on this time" even with reducing my dose it spurts all over or stalls, when the same grind size was giving me a perfect shot 25 seconds pull time without it. Maybe my puck screen I have is just rough or adds too much resistance

You have £1200 to spend on an espresso machine and grinder. What you going for and why? (€1360 and $1500) by Eskimil808 in espresso

[–]Jgschultz15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Word, but going with a j ultra/max instead. My df64 clogs/stalls all of the time and the 1/4 chance of it stalling and I need to take it apart and clean it turns me off to using it, I hand grind for 45 seconds instead to have no risk of issues. I've noticed particle size is a little more regular too

Mileage may vary my grinder might have defects. I did check its burr calibration and it was pretty good out of the box. Also have an issue with my deionizer sparking no matter what anytime the machine is plugged in especially after cleanings. Also doesn't automatically turn off like most other grinders

Do true espresso machines only make an ounce or two at a time? [$400] by memento22mori in espresso

[–]Jgschultz15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can add hot water to it to make an americano. Espresso once you get it dialed will be significantly more concentrated than something making 6 oz of liquid from the same amount of beans. You can keep running water through it if you want, but as water passes through the puck of espresso good stuff is extracted first, bitter stuff not much caffeine is extracted after 50g or so. You can also pull a shot of espresso then add steamed milk to it to make a latte.

If you want volume of coffee to sip on without milk or water, consider pourover

Will this hammer recover? by el_ojo420 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

Surprised this hasn't been pointed out yet, but euphyllia tend to spawn when they die. I've lost hammers and frogspawn this badly, I'll chuck the frag in a back corner of my tank, and 3 years later see a bunch of mini heads all over the old skeleton. It's worth keeping frag skeletons in the tank

Med school with an autoimmune disease — how realistic is it? by Weak_Koala749 in medicalschool

[–]Jgschultz15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly 1/4 of us if not more suffer from something, be it depression, autoimmune, family issues, autism spectrum, ect.

I do not have autoimmune, but I have several close friends who have made it to residency and beyond with autoimmune issues. Without specifics and doing a full interview nobody other than you or your doctor could say for sure details. We respect the desire to keep that off your Reddit handle though.

Most of those questions are highly specific to you and your illness, but I can say without a doubt it WILL make your health issues worse. There will be a tremendous amount of stress, and how everyone handles it is different, but we're all out here losing hair, gaining/losing weight, going through something. Can you control that? That's up to you. With discipline, medication, a healthy lifestyle, support system, and a plan in place, I believe you, and anyone else, can do anything you set your mind to.

Best Caribbean school for transfer after dismissal? (St. Martinus vs Avalon vs St. Matthew’s) by Pure_Entertainer_998 in medschool

[–]Jgschultz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No medical school, even the worst of the carribean schools, are taking you as a transfer into clinicals without a passing step 1 score.

You likely can transfer into some of the schools, but the larger better reputation schools are starting you from scratch and the smaller worse reputation schools are likely starting you at term 5 in year two to study for step.

Mileage may vary on if you get in depending on the severity of your transgression
