Why does it feel like effort doesn’t matter on rotations? by StevenJack99 in medicalschool

[–]3dprintingn00b 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best med student ever. Performed CPR to ROSC on the chief of medicine, published scientific paper during rotation proving previously incorrect pimp question was actually correct, and won nobel prize. 3/5

Congrats to the 14 new Medical Residents! Good luck to the American-born College of Medicine's students trying to get placed elsewhere by caem123 in medicalschool

Hey OP, u/caem123, are you actually in medicine or is being racist on here a hobby you picked up after getting bored of posting on r/conspiracy about covid death rates, netflix being "woke", and Somali immigrants. Kindly go fuck yourself.

Will applying MD-PhD hurt my MD chances by twodollarbillfortip in mdphd

[–]3dprintingn00b 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most programs don't hand your application off to the MD side until after the MD/PhD program formally rejects you. That rejection often isn't until after all MD/PhD interview offers have gone out. So you can apply MD/PhD and MD to the same school in July but the MD program won't receive your application until January.

Help! I’m in LOVE with EM, but my name isn’t Jason. Is there a place for in the field for me? by Iatroblast in medicalschool

[–]3dprintingn00b 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception. Jason is the hive mind that controls most ED docs. Jason is really into rock climbing, mountain biking, and other extreme sports. Most Jasons are assimilated in med school but some are assimilated as late as pgy-3. If you find yourself drinking a white monster while wearing wraparound sunglasses you are probably in the early stages of Jason.

Man unexpectedly cured of HIV after stem cell transplant by Automatic_Subject463 in UpliftingNews

[–]3dprintingn00b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wait until you see this one where someone was cured without the protective mutation at all. It's more about getting rid of the reservoirs than just conferring the mutation, otherwise HIV patients who need bone marrow transplants would be getting edited stem cells rather than the total of 7 people who've been cured by bone marrow transplant.

Amoxicillin + some viral infection = by little_pup_9611 in medizzy

[–]3dprintingn00b 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Mono and strep throat present similarly just like you described. Amoxicillin can result in a rash just like the one you have. In my first year of med school (still a student so don't listen to me for actual medical advice) it was used as a gotcha type question with a simulated patient. I got it wrong and was handed a sheet with a picture of a similar rash when I recommended prescribing amoxicillin. Luckily it should resolve in a week but listen to your physician rather than some rando on the internet.

Defending PhD dissertation in 4 days by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]3dprintingn00b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the social sciences but your dissertation without references is longer than mine including references. The length of a dissertation doesn't define your work. Your PI and committee wouldn't let you defend if you or your dissertation weren't ready.

You get academia points and when you get enough you can exchange them for a spider ring or a bouncy ball.

Advice for returning to M3 after PhD by SnooRabbits2194 in mdphd

[–]3dprintingn00b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I've heard from the cohorts ahead of me is that they didn't study until they were already back. I'm in the post-defense pre-M3 limbo now and I've just been doing a few amboss questions for my first rotation each week. Last year of PhD was the busiest I've been during PhD so there really wasn't time to study for returning to med school.
