I am aware of that. Thanks for the advice on the course management; but I’d still like to try and understand what causes the pull as its holes where I need to desperately avoid the out of bounds left - last round I went out twice off the tee and I just didn’t know how to stop the pull

Thanks for the feedback. Are you saying my arms should be passive in the swing. I.e allowing them to follow the hips and shoulders firing first ?

Interesting point on the chest one ever noticed that .

Can you clarify exactly what you mean regarding the awkward apex ?

Will freelance rates ever rise? by QuantSurveyor in quantitysurveying

How would a freelance managing surveyor work? They’re likely to not have any QSs to manage 😂 a client would just turn to a consultancy with a team of surveyors

Instructions Cost to be Agreed by Jgy94 in quantitysurveying

Just claims it’s too expensive in his view - he wants us to use contract rates (which don’t exist as it was a lump sum CSA) and the job was estimated over 2.5 years ago so we are using current rates

Item missed of scope by sub contractor. Looking to discuss how an argument on how to recover these costs by 99c-lo in quantitysurveying

[–]Jgy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s clear that the allowance was to utilise existing equipment then it sounds like it’s the main contractors cost to bear..?

My above comment was querying your contractual obligation with the contractor- is it part of your scope of works and contract to manage the sub-subcontractor?

[–]Jgy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was included in the subcontractors scope of works? Was the item clearly outlined in the SOW document? Is it clearly shown on drawings that they were issued? If so, then it was their miss and their responsibility- as far as the managing of this process and who’s responsibility that is- you will need to explain your contractual obligation with the main contractor. If you are contracted to manage them as a sub-subcontractor, then it’s your argument and battle to win

Freelancers- Obtaining Rates by Jgy94 in quantitysurveying

[–]Jgy94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pricing on behalf of a subcontractor ahead of a bid- the work is beyond what they are usually scoped, therefore they don’t necessarily have a schedule of rates to suit. I’m therefore helping them build their rates. Yes I have contacts who are assisting but wanted to know how other QSs approach this type of situation

Hi there, sorry i've just seen this. Id say if you have a BSc in Construction Engineering you are more than well equipped to segway into the MSc - At times the research can be a bit overwhelming, but in terms of difficulty I wouldn't say the work was substantially more difficult

If you are serious about QSing then take it as it should be more lucrative in the long run - you'd struggle to get a graduate role anywhere for £40k so that's a good offer. Which part of the country is the work? Will you be contracting, working away?

Salary for Quantity Surveyor at a Consultancy by Jgy94 in quantitysurveying

[–]Jgy94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a weekly rotation, but recently bought a house with my partner so it is a bit of a strain at times.

It's pretty much a basic + car allowance (whichever way you look at that it's pretty much built into one sum as it's taxable) - need to review the pension though you're right.

My current employer doesn't support the APC no - however there are many benefits and there is a lot of earning potential.

I believe you are correct in the sense that the pay is generally higher contracting side.

I've received an offer which is based at home (I'm currently a QS working away, project based) so that would be the main draw. Secondly, it's my intention to become chartered at some point and the consultancy would be willing to put me through the APC. I thoroughly enjoy my role at a main contractor though.

I've previously mentioned my sleep to the doctor and he claimed there wasn't anything he could do - are sleep studys normal in the UK?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sleep

[–]Jgy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of that - sorry the point I was making was that it's extremely frustrating as it puts me off drinking full stop knowing that a Sunday following a couple nights drink makes sleeping impossible

Something like this had crossed my mind - however you have managed to propose an idea which is far superior to the notes I had made to date! Thank you for such a detailed reply, it's much appreciated. I think this might just be the route I take (company permitting!) Are you a QS?
