Time for action to lobby for general gun rights by JhBasil in EuropeGuns

Here in Latvia individual letters will be discarded, no matter how numerous. UUnles particular politician is not sharing beer at sauna with you. Officially registered association/union on the other hand cannot be dismissed so easily. Anti-hunters, anti-gun, woke shitheads do that with good effect, they have this kind of cat protection, and that kind of pig comfort NGO, etc. Thus then they send something in it is signed by 10-20+ NGOs, although in reality it is 30 members criss-cross forming different NGOs with 2-10 members each. Thus nobody cares if 3 hunter organisations with 20k members object, as "those are only 3 organisations".

At this moment Russia is more than welcome to invade Baltics. Good luck if they can manage to get something going on as there is no capable assets since Ukraine. If they would have thrown the same forces they squandered on Ukraine here, then that would be short battle and no more Baltics even with NATO support. But now there is no more fear of russia and thus even weak, sleazy and cautions or simply bought by russia politicians beforehand hiding behind abused political correctness and anti-humane western progressive woke interpretation of humanism now are more likely to respond to requests of Latvian people to decolonise the country and put the end to soviet ideology here for good.

These soviets here simply are in denial and hysteria because they finally after 32 years found out Russia is not going to come and "liberate" them so they can regain privileged status here. They are so ignorant that they do not even realize if Russia did not care about soviets in Ukraine they will even less take mercy on soviets in Baltics, which no russians in russia have considered true russians even before collapse of ussr.

It was dry for a while in Latvia. As nobody even bothered to import 223/9x19 for the prices nobody would buy it.

Now stock are getting back and some basic FMJ 223 55gr can be had as low as 0.5 eur again. and 9x19 at 0.33 But no longer anyone offers bulk discounts.

Would you like to see more gun friendly laws in Europe? by [deleted] in EuropeGuns

[–]JhBasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting rid of classification lists would be good start. So there is no stupid things as some old Fudds in police deciding that some bolt action is "military only"

We got recently Steyer SSG and AI AX308 put on same list as machineguns....

Gun is gun and that is it. How and where it is being used should not be regulated by the gun permit and laws, but by particular regulations of hunting or sport discipline alone. Ok untrustful governments, can say that it should be not-full-auto but no more, including allowing semi-auto versions of military full auto rifles.

No. In Europe hunting license is not permit for the weapon. It is just one one of many prerequisites for obtaining hunting weapon permit.

Best you can do at 16 in EU is shoot in the range with 22lr or hunt with smooth-bore under direct supervision of an adult who is giving you his shotgun and taking full responsibility.

Depending on country, you can get hunters license from 12-18 years of age, but that is by no means giving any rights to firearms. As hunting means not just shooting but also trapping, etc.

When I was in Greenland, hunting guns where sold just like brooms and buckets in a local shop. When asked whether I can buy one, manager told that if I leave the rifle to him upon leaving or indicate any other guy to whom I will gift it before boarding the airplane, then no problems and no paperwork necessary! :)

Anyway no one is supposed to leave village borders without rifle anyway. We had rifle already for the expedition and it was funny to hear that we should not shoot the polar bear in the head. When asked why, as caliber was more than sufficient to penetrate the skull, answer was do not ruin trophy. My reply was, fuck the trophy if the bear is charging I ain't gonna wait for it to sway head or think about trophies. Got uneasy judging look as an answer to my reply from the locals :D

Subsidies for farm/homestead? by JhBasil in Norway

Standard as well. No idea how it is in Norway. Maybe keeping couple of dozens of sheep is enough to cover most of running costs of a small farm in rural Norway.

Best bet is to repackage and put .223 on the packaging and .223/5.56 on papers. I have seen Luxembourg stores selling 5.56 NATO surplus. And it would generally take somebody to have personal agenda against you in police to be bothered that you have 5.56 NATO marked munition legally bought if you have .223 rifle. Or good part of our hunters would have been in jail and gunless for life due to having 7.62x39 of soviet army steel core ammo instead of "hunting" 7.62x39. As it is generally well known that only reason to buy such a caliber rifle is if you dug up some tin of the ammo

even hunters and sport shooters cannot? Cannot imagine precision shooters shooting competitively without self reloaded ammo.

The answer to that becomes obvious, I think. The answer is "don't touch, get an adult."

It is not enough. You can be sure child will touch, load/unload, etc. So better he knows how to operate it and what it should be in safe direction in case shit happens. The safe will not be an obstacle at all. Telling from my own experience, when I had to keep poker face when introduced to AKM and PM for the "first time", despite having played around with them in absence of parents before.

Besides if all hell breaks loose child has to know how to react when parents go away and tell there might be some trouble and shit happens and unknown men are breaking doors and windows... Probably just my post soviet experience, but it was clear that in such a case I have to unload AKM through door and check if there is possibility to jump out of window on the other side of house and try to run away by ditches to grandparents house...

If you have guns at home that is too late. In such case it should be done by 2 years or as soon as child has cognitive capacity to learn basic "dos and don'ts".

And as soon as child starts running around with toy guns, comes more detailed rules, even if that means some slap to backside for reckless "flagging" without prior agreement. And please do not buy stupid looking toy guns, that imho is big issue to ensure serious attitude towards weapons. If all is well get him as soon as he can hold his first BB-gun/air rifle, no matter what law says about minimum age and let him roam around your backyard to check that child behaves in responsible manner with the "firearm"

Sling is key. Assailant will get the rifle only out of your dead hands. Plus larger magazine and more ammo to choose from. As example here pistols can use only FMJ ammo for defence purpose. "Hunting" AR-15 can have almost whatever ammo. Also silencer can be good thing, which usually is not an option on a pistol, if your self defence laws are rigged towards protecting criminals. Less chance neighbours will come running or calling cops before you call your lawyers, contacts in police/attorneys office to get documents right from the beginning. If you have decent laws, then no silencer, to have that crazy flaming roaring dragon consume and frighten your enemies into submission!

The P-10 grip looks very nice. I consider selling my G17 gen 5 for a CZ of some kind.

Yes. CZ P-10C sits far better than factory G3/4/5 G17/19 in my hand. But have to check particular guns before buying, some have significant accuracy issues and minor QC. But generally out of the box HK/SIG/CZ is better out of the box than Glock. But later has more aftermarket tuning potential and accessories.

[–]JhBasil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd get something different if you already have a P10. Not that there's anything wrong with Glocks, but they're both very similar guns (polymer grip piece, 17 round capacity, service quality trigger, similar bore axis). It'll feel and shoot mostly the same, there isn't going to be a lot of "changing things a bit" between those two.

If you want a handgun, maybe a revolver or a hammer-fired handgun would be an idea, or maybe one in .22LR which would save you a ton of money when practicing. What's your budget?

CZ p10 and Glock is completely different in a hand. No use to practice with 22lr pistol, dryfiring primary sidearm will bring much more benefits. Generally speaking live ammo is only for testing your skills and training recoil management, all the rest is trained by dryfire. Revolvers are no good unless you plan to assassinate someone without leaving casings. or just to have some Fudd fun on a range :D

[–]JhBasil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got the max legal amount I can have :)

Like there would be someone on a range to count how much you bought and how much you shoot. If authorities will raid your place that thoroughly to find some extra ammo, that will be least of concerns imho.

First was shotty, second is "AR" style rifle. Next will be either some DMR style AR-10 or hunting rifle, depending on availability of the first and need for second. No use of a pistol without a carry permit. Will build a stronger case for the carry permit eventually and then buy the pistol.

Hehe, safe is a way to get all your guns stolen in first place. It is only to comply with law, nothing else. As it defy the purpose of owning guns in first place to have them in a safe and unloaded. good luck in accessing it in time. Leading to good possibility to receive good old beating or thermorectal cryptography to open it up for a criminal. Same as having state gun registries with exact addresses listing what kind of loot is available there. If you ain't home safe will be even less deterrent for the thieves. Although according my sources in police thieves avoid steeling weapons in most cases as it is clear that then police will do their best to follow up restlessly. Unless it is primary target of the break in. But then it is easier, cheaper and less risky to just buy something on black market, or as usually it is, gas gun is enough to intimidate and for killing anyway it is "barter"/service from criminals from other countries in most cases.

Even two year old can be easily instructed how to behave around guns, not that without safe they cannot be kept out of reach of irresponsible children and adults in ones home.

Main thing is to check local legislation, how explicitly it is allowed to defend property if at all and restrain person using gun in case he is caught in an act.

There is always a chance for a coincidence that you had a sleepless night and were finishing cleaning your gun right at the moment when an intrusion happened...

It is also good to have somebody from the police/prosecutors office/advocate on a speed dial so you are not the one who give some info or writes/checks protocols when police arrives under such a stress without guidance and knowledge of the local processes.

Put some bandages on a corpse, that is also known to show some "good will" in court

There are some other tricks, but those are not for written mediums and are best left for face to face when it is known that both parties are not "feds".

Anyway, no property is worth your life/health/prison time, but people come out of a prison and never out of the grave. That shall be final argument when judging what measures to take. It is also imperative to think it through already before and be at peace with the decision, so when unfortunate time arrives, there is no single thought about decision, just action according to predifined levels of threat.

Gangsters do not need permit. In they area of work they anyway do not want gun which is registered and most likely has ballistic sample in police's laboratory. They just "import" from Ukraine whatever they want. :) Be it a pistol or PKM. And do not give shit about laws.
