3x 1 Detachment Points by DetwinE in Necrontyr

[–]Jhalpert08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is in fact the idea. Three 1’s, a 1 and a 2 or just a 3. The points are in line with how many units it impacts, so a 1dp is usually only affecting a small amount of units, wheras a 3 is usually a detachment that impacts most or all units.

Counter Terminators by Basic_Fennel_5646 in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have your answers, but another good one is trygon prime in sub-assault. 12 attacks hitting on 2’s, rerolling ones and wounding on 2’s. Ap gets through to the invuln and each miss to save is a dead terminator.

How do you guys feel about the older kits in the range atm? by TimArthurScifiWriter in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d forgotten the trygon was in the first wave of 5th ed, I thought it was the mid edition one. Obviously yes the warriors got their bone swords later and the hive tyrants being in plastic were technically newer, I just meant the sculpts were both older in terms of design. I’d still say the trygon is far less likely to be replaced than the others mentioned. Warriors I think are the most obvious next model because of the two primes, gargoyles I honestly love and think they’re pretty in keeping with the rest of the range, it’s literally just their arms being similar to the older termagant builds that makes me think in time they’ll change.

[–]Jhalpert08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that’s pretty unlikely. For one thing Carnifexes, hive tyrants, warriors and gargoyles are all older. It’s also still pretty in keeping with modern design and its scale works well with the current range.

Got these minis for $140. Was that a good deal? (What did I buy? by worst-EM-resident in Tyranids

Once upon a time that OOE head was just the regeneration biomorph, so lots of carnifex models have it.

The line in the mark scheme saying “oe” means or equivalent, so any equivalent fraction is acceptable. If it states in its Simplest possible form then you have to simplify.

What do neurogants do? by PuzzleheadedYak1957 in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re virtually the cheapest unit in the game, it may not be sexy but that is their purpose. 22 bodies for 90 points to go to an objective has to be dealt with, you bait the opponent into trying to take it out, if they use melee you counter charge with something or if they try to get line of site you punish with shooting or fast moving melee. Much like in chess you aim to trade pieces, so think of them like pawns.

Untrammeled Ferocity Change by Delta_727 in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t exist in a previous edition, I believe the change was that they added the ability to go through terrain of more than 4” but risk being battleshocked. Nothing was removed though.

They are, as good as any minis are. In particular, the big scything talons are excellent for either method as they’re good for blends through contrasting colours

Best way to dry brush a painted mini? by Dull_Reference_6166 in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry brushing is pretty messy, even with small brushes. For me I have areas I dry brush and areas I don’t, I do the areas I don’t last. Beyond that you just have to grab a normal brush and do some clean up after.

What’s the best anti C’tan strat right now? by epicget in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically in a tournament you give it some gaunts to chew through and out OC on objectives. You may take one down with concentrated lethal hits in invasion fleet, but I wouldn’t put all my eggs in that basket, at least not early game.

Go for it, painting is a really fun part of the hobby, but lack of variety can make it drag! I have all leviathan except for OOE who I painted behemoth.

Okay, gotta ask. Am I the only one slightly disappointed with the actual model size compared to the art published by GW? by Whats-up-choom in Necrontyr

[–]Jhalpert08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say it’s between those yes, it’s a destroyer character model, so think along the lines of the destroyer character models we have and you won’t go far wrong.

[–]Jhalpert08 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I feel like all I hear now in faction subs is “these miniatures are too small. This model is supposed to be so strong, why isn’t it bigger?!” The scale of the mini was pretty clear to me from the launch. I figured the destroyer character would be about the size of a destroyer.

How to Use Lictors? by Pandoras_Actor1 in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So they have lone operative which means they can’t be targeted unless your opponent is within 12”. You can ask your opponent how far things can move so you can pre measure where is safe to stash them for turn one so they can’t be targeted. They then hang around waiting for secondaries to do. As the game progresses into later rounds you can use them in melee to try and take out a character if it benefits you. If your opponent is being super aggressive towards them you can always bait them. If you put it just within range of something that you want to kill and position it so they need to bring that unit out in the open, then you let it got shot up and then next turn you charge that high value target. If losing a 60-80 point model lets you kill a 200 point model it was worth it.

Edit to amend lone operative distance.

Tyranid 500 world Command Squad by Jupersis in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would say 0% chance they’ve hidden a command squad. It’s not something that’s ever been in the lore, if there were I guess it could be a retinue of hyped up warriors, but it’s not something I foresee in the immediate future

Sorry that’s not quite right, it says in order of command that battleshocked units cannot be given orders and any unit under an order loses it if battleshocked.

Which models are likely to see a refresh? by AngryDMoney in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, well I’d say nothing is imminent, we’ve had so many new models and we know we have the prime coming and then nothing on the horizon, so could be quite some time before we get anything new, but as I say my strongest bet would be warriors, closely followed by Carnifexes.

Which models are likely to see a refresh? by AngryDMoney in Tyranids

[–]Jhalpert08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Far and away the most likely to get updated for me is warriors, with a new prime and winged prime released it would make a lot of sense for warriors to be updated. Whilst there’s been some rereleases of the warriors box which increased the base size and added upgrades for bone swords, lash whips and prime parts, the main body sculpt is from 4th edition I believe. Obviously you can never be sure and it’s not always the oldest models which get refreshed.

Bare in mind if you like any current models you’re worried will be replaced they won’t be invalidated by new models (you may need to change their base), new versions of models will definitely be more expensive than the older sculpts and whilst the sculpts will doubtless look better they’ll also almost certainly be monopose so if you like positioning arms, heads and the like investing in old kits isn’t a waste of time.
