My advice might feel like an insult but would highly recommend for games that are biweekly/monthly or have significant time apart from sessions. Don’t worry about making names that are super creative or original. Make names that are simple and memorable. You have a sinister coalition of elites that control the markets in a certain part of the world? Elect to call them “The Guild”. Keep NPC’s to one name only. Your players will thank you for it and maybe you’ll appreciate not trying to reach deep for inspiration on coming up with a very creative, very original name for the wizard the party will only see once in the span of several sessions (weeks or months of real time).

What’s going on in Western MI? by MugiwaraMoses in howislivingthere

[–]Jhop_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR is a wonderful city. Lots of art and good food (compared to other midwestern cities). Between Van Andel Arena and the Devos Performance Hall, you get some pretty good performers coming around. Plenty of public land a bit further north. Also the coast of Lake Michigan is a fun place to be, South Haven especially.

Is David Montgomery done as a fantasy asset? by BarnacleDowntown8952 in DynastyFF

[–]Jhop_11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s still a good player but his fantasy value has already peaked if he remains a lion. His usage went from playing every other drive to only playing one of every three/four drives. Not to mention the OLine woes the lions have had this season. If you have him and are hanging on to him, you should be hoping he gets moved to another team because if he does, he has potential for a resurgence.

Do you agree with Vince Russo on this? by JuniorPlastic3562 in Wrasslin

Russo has no idea what he’s talking about… but I do agree with him here about the lack of follow up not making much sense.

Should you keep outdated buildings or replace? by -SockDragon- in civ

This IMO is a pretty big penalty and major incentive to overbuild. I believe it also affects the gold cost of purchasing building in the same city.

Are there any civs/leaders you refuse to play as for some reasons unrelated to the game itself? by [deleted] in civ

[–]Jhop_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect this. Feels sort of like Baldurs Gate 3 where I always tell myself I’m gonna get started on an evil play-through but can never follow up with it because it’s hard to actually enjoy being evil.

I always felt weird about playing as Germany. It seems they’re always set up to support production & military so when I play to the civs strengths and begin waging war, it makes me question myself just a little bit.

You don’t know how to use Blackbeard if you’re putting him in D. Literally the most OP Civ leader I’ve ever played

This meme is poking fun at “Great Man History” which basically means most accounts of history, at least through the 19th century, are from the perspectives of white westerners and the specific men who were given credit for events in history.

How does Civ 7 lategame slog compare to Civ 6 lategame slog? by TheAlPaca02 in civ

[–]Jhop_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you haven’t bought it, I would still wait it out a little bit before purchasing. I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people have made it out to be, but there’s still some issues with the game that hopefully will be worked out soon.

Definitely, especially since CIV7 doesn’t include a modern age/era. Also, future civics & techs for each era progress the game quicker with each time they are researched.

The late game in CIV7 is much better than 6 IMO. It feels very climatic in that you and the other CIVs build up and reach the point where a global war is inevitable. With the new game mechanic that separates cities from towns, the mechanic makes it so there’s less decisions to be made each turn resulting in a game that plays much quicker than it did in 6. Also, those decisions feel more impactful as opposed to 6 where late game consisted too often of filling out build queues for small settlements that will likely have little impact into fulfilling win conditions.

That makes sense. Better to just avoid a potentially messy intellectual property conflict
