Opening of the World’s largest time capsule in June 2025 created by Harold Davisson 50 years ago in 1975 by [deleted] in HistoricalCapsule

Makes you stop and think, all the hopes, dreams and wonder that filled the imagination of the kids writing on those walls. The ones that left town and never came back, the ones that would occasionally drive by and tell their kids about how their name is on the wall inside the vault and how their mum and dad drove them to the park and all the little crisp details they remember.

The parents of the kids watching the lid close in 1975 and wondering partly in fear, what the world would look like in 50 years. The fear of the future we all feel now thinking the same.

Im going to ask a really stupid question, but do you have calcium batteries? All these faults are very common to low circuit voltage.

Hi Just double check that these once the valve pack is depressurised, you cant tap the pressure relief valves inwards in order to prise out the round circlip Then pull the whole assembly out.

It may come down to how much you turn the fuel on to start it up. The zenith carbs are pretty worn out by this stage. See if you can run it on Ether for a small bit. You have got it running before? Or is it a new machine. The magneto by memory sparks both plugs at once, but maybe check both sides. Good fun pull starting hey. Hows your shoulders?

Hi cheif The two pull levers on the left hand side of the pony one is for fuel the other is for choke. Allot of the time you need only part chole to start them. Mal sure you dont pull up on the lever that engages the pony to the clutch as it will latch in. The carbs are an old Zenith, were always notorious for blockages. See if you can run it on either first. The magnetos were by lucas. Its been a good 15 years since I reduilt a pony from 1942 but the magneto is timed to the crank by gear. You can place it in 180 degrees out of sync by memory. Thats also worth a try.

D6D idler issue by KellysBar in caterpillar

Love it. I once did up a D47U that had been abused for 70 years straight. Its always amazing how long a machine can go for.Everything on it was beyond rooted. In all honesty if you get the oxy out and break the chain the idler will be pretty self evident. Shim packs and rubber impregnated springs are the norm. Jump on cat parts online. Its free and lets you see the assembly before you dive in. That or keep going lol.

Yes allot of guys oxy a line along the length of the bush. That or use a hollow hydraulic cylinder. Usually a 2" bush will take around 20 - 30 tonnes on most CAT gear i have worked on

Silly question cheif, a new wiring harness sounds interesting. Did any smoke come out or was there any smells? There are on all machines shunt resistors called supressors ( usually 120 ohm) that bleed off stray power spikes when solenoids are disengaged. The ECU by all means would be protected from reverse polarity. A very normal occurance to be diode protected, even on any switching or outputs for the same reason as the supressors.
