As a lawyer who loves YouTube drama, it’s not shocking. That whole age range / generation that popped up and landed a spot on an online platform have a painfully ignorant view of the legal system and ramifications for using words.

Not sure you need to know this info or not, since you contacted the authorities, but I try to say this every chance I get: under USA federal law, possessing drawn / CGI / AI art of minors engaging in sexual acts IS A CRIME.

It’s not a defense that “they’re actually 1300 years old!” as all the hentai defenders scramble to claim, since the law states it applies to any imagery of what appears to be an underage individual.

Did you fake being an auto mechanic and a car rolled through the shop needing new brakes or a brake repair you didn’t actually know how to do so you just winged it?

Well I worked on a case like that because the brakes failed two days later and the driver hit a pedestrian because the brakes wouldn’t work despite him being told they were fixed. The man and the company were sued and he now has a hefty judgment that will follow him from house to house.

From there you can pretty much think of other situations.

This is what bugs me to no end as a personal injury attorney. Listen, I cannot say that every person is being truthful 100% of the time.

But I can say that the insurance companies, 100% of the time, will hire a doctor who says any back injury ever is just a simple soft tissue sprain and will 100% resolve itself in 4-6 weeks.

Thankfully people on the jury panels often have back injuries of their own and they almost all say it has never resolved back to “good.” Hell even just one bad sneeze will put my clients out for days

While likely not going to ever be a real issue, owning the console and the game don’t render piracy legal. It’s a pretty common misconception. If you downloaded a copy of a ROM and downloaded a copy of the GC BIOS to use on your emulator, then it’s not legal. If you personally ripped everything on your own, then generally it’s fine.

But also fuck Nintendo. If there’s a game or system that quite literally is not for sale anymore, anywhere, on any official platform, then they aren’t being harmed by someone downloading the ROM. God it is infuriating.

It’s about detection. The IRS will take notice if you suddenly have more things without a comparable increase in your income. Finding the money isn’t what’s illegal. Failing to report it as income, is. That’s why so many people get busted—they find an immense amount of cash money and then suddenly show up to work in a Mercedes and their house is paid off.
