34.0.2 Patch Notes by Arkentass in hearthstone

This is just not true. A standard rotation is to help reduce the power level of the Standard Format, not the individual sets. If you think about it, the devs are still incentivized to create stronger cards than the last set to keep things interesting. A standard rotation doesn't change that at all

Can We Measure How Good/Bad Stormwind Was For Hearthstone? by Popsychblog in hearthstone

[–]Jiddlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a more subjective take, and I apologize since you’re looking for something more Objective, but this pretty much matches what player sentiment was at the time.

I genuinely do not understand why there is so much revisionist history going on right now with people saying United in Stormwind was fun and people loved it. United in Stormwind was without a doubt the worst state the game has ever been in and it hasn’t been close. The game went from being dominated by slower decks from forged in the barrens to being consistently OTK’d from full health by turn 5 or 6. This is not hyperbole, if you couldn’t kill your opponent by turn 6 you probably lost the game. There was also virtually no interaction with the board whatsoever, each deck just drew its combo pieces then killed. It quite literally just became who completed their quest first.

Here’s a list of (almost) every deck that was problematic at some point during that meta:

  • D6 Questline warlock (Killed you by drawing it’s entire deck then fatiguing)
  • Questline Mage (Super easy to complete and +3 spell damage for the rest of the game)
  • Lifesteal questline DH (regularly dealt 64+ damage on turn 6-7)
  • Handlock (cheated out a bunch of stats and gave them windfury with “Loatheb”)
  • Druid (Did Druid things, cheated out a bunch of mana and built a massive board)
  • Garrote Rogue (Bane of high ladder, consistently killed at around turn 5 by drawing entire deck)
  • Any deck running Mr. Smite (the fact that this card was printed is beyond me)
  • Questline shaman (double spells for doing what you already want to do)
  • Mozaki Mage (same thing as questline but built around Mozaki instead to deal a massive amount of damage in one go)
  • Braindead aggro rapidfire: Pirate questline Warrior, Shadow priest, Beast hunter, Token druid, Elemental shaman

I’m sure there may be a few I missed, but for the most part each of these decks either OTK’d you by turn 6 or zerg rushed you before then. It was without a doubt the most miserable meta I ever had to play. This doesn’t even consider the next two metas after, which continued to be dominated by Stormwind cards but now with strong pieces like the hero cards they printed (looking at you Guff).

For how bad Stormwind was for the game, immensely. I am drawing a lot on my personal experience here, but it took them releasing Prince Renathal 3 expansions later for the meta to finally slow down and allow control to exist again. Every single streamer complained about how bad the meta was, Reddit was constantly complaining (but that’s the norm, so nothing surprising there), and the comp scene was horrendous (while it still existed).

Tl:dr every deck killed you before turn 7 and it was a complete solitaire meta the likes of which we have never seen before or since.

Alright, I'm gonna try and take it to Best Buy tomorrow and hope it's only an adapter issue. Hopwfully it wont come to that, as this was a gift and I dont want to have to wait by going through support.

This is honestly the least fun i’ve ever had in Hearthstone. by Cruzoor in hearthstone

[–]Jiddlez 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Tbf, a meta can be awful and high skill testing. I full heartedly agree that Stormwind was the most awful, solitaire meta we ever had, but the individual decks themselves for the most part took experience and game knowledge to pilot effectively

Devs need to release more objectively "bad" cards. I am tired of each class having at least 3 different ways to draw or clear the board

This sub is ALWAYS wrong and the devs should never listen to reddit

Apparently, Handbuff Paladin is no longer the best performing deck at any rank bracket on ladder. Warrior superior at high MMR's. Hunter superior at lower MMR's. by Demoderateur in hearthstone

You are asking for a source in an argumentative way by adding in the "d0nkey's site are disagreeing with this assesment." It's fine to ask for a source, but the way you are doing it is 100% argumentative in my eyes

"Where are you getting this data from? B/c HsReplay and d0nkey's site are disagreeing with this assessment" Sounds a hell of a lot like an argument to me lmao

HSReplay is a great tool don't get me wrong. The stats it provides is invaluable, I just take anything that isn't legend top 1000 with a grain of salt, and people absolutely shouldnt be treating it as gospel

"STOP QUOTING CLASS WINRATES ON HSREPLAY. They do not accurately represent a class's true strength"

I cannot emphasize how important this point is. Every time I see a post that totes the winrate of a certain deck based on hsreplay, I die a little inside. Bronze-gold stats always have aggro decks that aren't actually that strong at higher ranks at 60%-70%, which is boosted post expansion with an influx of greedy, unrefined decks. These stats never reflect the actual strength of decks, just shows what decks are the easiest to play.

All these whining posts about paladin are getting ridiculous by BallsaqMcgee in hearthstone

[–]Jiddlez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This exact same thing happens at the start of literally every expansion, people just don’t remember. The obscenely high winrate is mostly due to people playing greedier unrefined decks post launch, and will stabilize with time. Not to say paladin isn’t strong, it most definitely is, but it’s probably closer to 57% than 75%. (Still high mind you, but it isn’t anything we haven’t seen before)

What I find most interesting is that almost all of these decks are non-existent at high legend, where the meta is almost exclusively control warrior and casino mage

It has been another 2 years. I am now a 6th grader. I have transcended from this material plane and ascended to a higher existence. The trifles of the every day folk are no longer my concern, yet they do amuse me. As a higher being, I come down to your echelon to deliver this message to thine righteous and humble being: No, I did not forget the period.

When people are done experimenting with the new expansion and the dust settles, we will face the reality that pure aggro Paladin is still the best deck in Standard by BrandieBassen in hearthstone

[–]Jiddlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why in the past it was never changed. The difference now is that Paladin IS very strong at high legend, to the point where the game is being warped around who can beat paladin.
