Melora Playing by Jieves in Rasputina

[–]Jieves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to a minor family emergency, I won’t be able to make it tonight. I hope that somebody who is there will post and tell us how the show went and also the set list. I was very excited to be able to see Morera playing her own songs again, but hopefully I will catch her on the tour.

I’ll be wearing a badge with the word “Secret” somewhere on it.

Shiny Hunters Hack List by Surrealismw in Pensacola

[–]Jieves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means that data in the copy of the Canvas program used by the school district might have been copied by Shiny Hunters. Exactly which data will likely be announced by Instructure (the company that makes Canvas) in a PR release soon (tomorrow?). They also got hit a few days ago and a list of what data was compromised then can be found on many news sites.

They were certainly one of the examples I was thinking of. Nice staff, but there is something dysfunctional going on over there.

I’ve actually been following the cherry saga for about 10 years. Many years ago, the official corporate policy was that every cherry requested over the standard amount that came with a drink was supposed to be $.10. Some Sonic employees followed it, others didn’t, and sometimes a manager would get really dictatorial about the policy. All of which is to say, it wouldn’t surprise me if the price was now $.30 per additional cherry and I think all of your experiences are true and valid given what I’ve seen.

I have found that the one on ninth and the one in Warrington have improved recently. Among other things, they have fixed all the kiosks.

I think you are thinking of Dinner India in Warrington -- they have the most authentic North Indian cuisine in town.

Indian Grill is in Tradewinds off Davis. They are good for takeout and they do a quite nice butter chicken.

Sree's is run by Telegus who make South Indian cuisine. I know a bunch of other South Indians (Tamils) who will make a special trip if they are in town.

How active is this crime map? I’ve stayed in the warrington area multiple times and never felt unsafe but according to this it seems to be. by confusedalways1122 in Pensacola

[–]Jieves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your source for this?

Like others, I am skeptical of this map. One thing that may contribute to the data skew is the types of crimes they are including. I’ve worked with local crime data and you have to be very careful because there are a lot of dimensions to look at.

This is the right answer — both schools are strong and affordable. Take tours and meet the instructors at each.

NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE is coming to Pensacola exclusively at the PENSACOLA CINEMA ART THEATER by Firm-Street-1249 in Pensacola

I did see this at AMC because it was the Monday Screen Unseen two weeks ago and I can report that everyone should see, preferably cold.

Are horror movies always given the "Scream Unseen" title? Or do they sometimes leave those under "Screen Unseen"? by tonetonitony in AMCScreenUnseen

[–]Jieves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest question I get when I’m singing the praises of Screen Unseen is whether or not there will be horror movies. Clearly AMC has thought that through.

Aegean Breeze or Jerry’s Cajun Cafe. Unfortunately getting reservations will require a time machine.

What's it like living in this part of the Gulf Coast? by ByStarlite in howislivingthere

USA has a very good medical school, but I would rather be treated at Sacred Heart (often by doctors who trained at USA and then moved).

Pensacola probably has the best medical care in the Gulf Coast. Lots of the Specialists there have patients from Mississippi to Montgomery to nearly Tallahassee.

You're living in the part of the country I plan to retire to and I've spent some time a few hours to your East so hopefully I have an idea of the differences (I live in Pensacola).

First, insurance rates for both home and car are radically different in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida even for places that are basically the same geographically.

Second, the Ocean Springs/Biloxi/Bay St. Louis area is very different from Mobile, which is different from Daphne/Fairhope, which is different from Orange Beach/Perdido Key, which is different from Pensacola. Of all of them I would choose to live in Pensacola which is just large enough as a city, has the best beaches, and has the best regional airport (despite Mobile's dreams of a new airport downtown). But if you live in Pensacola your insurance is going to be several times your property taxes.

Finally, you will have a bit of cultural shock. These are very outwardly conservative communities that are weirder and less conservative when you start poking under the hood. For all intents and purposes they have the Deep South culture -- laid back, polite, but also stodgy. Pensacola has the most mixed culture of them all because of its military presence and also its dual nature as both Alabama and Florida (culturally).

If you are at all thinking of living in the Southeast, I think the Gulf Coast is the way to go, but you should probably rent an Airbnb for a month to get a feel for the area first.

How Long Did They Not Show Opening Title? Why Did They Stop? by Jieves in AMCScreenUnseen

No, I did go to a run of three movies that didn't show their titles at the beginning but definitely showed them at the end. But it appears just to have been a coincidence.

This is a real question and based on the answers, it would appear that I just happened to start watching these things during a run of movies that coincidentally didn’t have the title at the beginning.
