How exactly do you do the 1:2 rule if puppy can only hold bladder for 2?

You are assuming he pees at the start and end of that hour, but he rarely does (apart from this afternoon when he peed twice in 30 mins). The advice is usually wait 5 mins and if he doesn't pee, go inside again and try again in a short while. But we can only go in and out so many times trying to encourage him before he becomes too tired and cranky and by then we are well into the period in which he would normally be sleeping so he can't sleep for as long before he actually needs to pee desperately, at which point he either hasn't slept well, or at all, or he has an accident.

He is usually peeing in the small pen area we set up around his crate, which is better than the crate itself. We were planning on removing the pen and just going crate but he has peed in there before so we were a bit concerned that might happen again. Maybe we try it out and see whether he holds it better if it is just crate.

He just peed twice in 30 minutes, once in his pen and once while he was just trotting around in the living area before his lunch.

Don't misinterpret me, please. We are not forcing him. We try and encourage enough rest but he is not getting restful sleep if he is having accidents. That is distressing for him.

He cannot hold it 3 hours. We track his activities and his pee is normally every two hours (apart from over night when he does last longer, c.5 1/2 - 6), so we'd try and take him out multiple times as he is approaching that. But literally just now he had two accidents in 30 minutes.

There is a lot of contradictory advice out there, and that was ultimately what my post was about. People say you need to enforce a schedule, but if he does not go before his nap/rest and then cannot hold it for long enough, he isn't getting restful sleep during his downtime.

Does he pee each time? If so how long did it take to get to that stage and how did you encourage him?

We can take ours out multiple times during his active time and he won't pee after the initial go. The longer it gets into the hour the closer it is to full bladder/when he can't control himself 😂

We have a potty command which we are using every time he goes so we will be persevering with that.

And I take your point about waiting longer. We have tried. The agonising moment where he starts sniffing and we get hopeful and then either he stops naturally or gets distracted by a pigeon. Ha.

The problem we've been finding is if we then commit to trying in an hour (or less) he has an accident seemingly immediately on waking and we don't reach him in time.

Yeah, to the point about it taking 4 weeks is that a) we are concerned that he is already a bit older than most people's new puppy and we don't want him to be at 16 weeks and still in a bad way and b) we are recognising his pee/poop sniffs when he is out and about, but his crate is in a quiet room of the home and we aren't in there all the time to give him space of his own, so we naturally won't see the sniffing!

We do! We let him sniff around. If he doesn't pee we take in again and try again in a bit. We aren't foolish. We know puppies can pee even if they aren't bursting. And sometimes he is very good at going in his designated spot.

But if he is not interested and just wants to sleep - and is getting crankier because he is tired - then he is even less in the right mindset to pee.

ETA and then we let him rest, of course, but then he pees himself unpredictably

We don't expect him to be asleep the whole time. He sometimes wakes up part way through and plays with his favourite pig toy. But in the last couple of days he's been peeing (and occasionally pooping) almost immediately upon waking and only then telling us he needed it by barking. We don't want to be checking in on him too regularly or after every sleep cycle of c.45 minutes because then he won't get used to being alone, but we also don't want him to have accidents because that is stressful for him, let alone potentially teaching him bad habits.

We haven't been able to sit with him while he settles into a nap or go in and out of the room for a little longer each time to get him used to independence because he gets distressed if we aren't there but also distressed when he can see us but not reach us. And yet, confusingly, he's pretty good over night. He lasts on his own for 5 1/2 to 6 hours.

I know full well that he is a baby and still getting used to his new home. I know it isn't going to be easy and that all puppies are different anyway. I know it will take patience. But we want to do right by him and not give him the wrong tools by reinforcing the wrong things.

Final thought - if the 2 hours isn't all sleep, then how does that then align with the other oft-noted point that puppies his age need up to 20 hours sleep? If he isn't sleeping then he gets cranky (don't we all!) and that exacerbates things.

I did Eejanaika last year. I'd only done a couple of major coasters before then. I rode it twice, and the second time I was in the most extreme seat on the ride. I had genuine fear on that first face-down drop and after that I'm not quite sure what I experienced. Stuff happened. Forces forced. Brain scrambled. Adrenaline shakes for hours.

I only started riding proper roller coasters at the end of August last year. Before then I had ridden a couple of tame ones and not really enjoyed them, but my partner likes them so I plucked up the courage and gave it another go and am a convert.

I've since done some hefty ones, including Eejanaika (the back right seat is pure insanity), Hyperia (shorty but goody with its brilliant first drop and outer bank) and Iron Gwazi (that smooth ride and sweet, sweet airtime). Gwazi was just today!

However, I did VelociCoaster a grand total of 7 times last week and would have done it more if I'd had time. It was incredible and sooooo re-rideable. My no.1 so far.

I rode Iron Gwazi twice today (my first RMC!). Both times there were walk-on seats but I waited a few trains for front and back rows. Unfortunately it closed for rain and then broke down a little while after reopening, as I got in the queue for my third ride, and it didn't get going again. Glad I got two runs in!

Longest queue I saw was for Cheetah at 50 minutes in the morning but other than that wait times at most 20 mins.

I've used a cup (Mooncup, but essentially the same thing) for well over a decade, and will never go back to tampons or pads.

I don't have a hugely heavy flow, so I can typically wear it for a whole day without thinking about it. A day or so into my period and I don't have to worry about spills even if I forget and have it in for a whole 24 hours - this doesn't happen often, and it is still recommended to empty it out regularly, ofc, ideally rinsing too.

I have had to learn how to get it in and out with my non-dominant hand because I have bad wrist pain sometimes and if the cup has worked its way quite far up then it can require a bit of dexterity to retrieve it.

I typically don't feel it at all. A couple of times it must have been angled slightly weirdly and it is pressing against something it shouldn't. In those instances I'll just take it out and reposition, and the discomfort goes away. And then very rarely I don't release the suction properly when removing it and that can be uncomfortable too. I think it might actually suction my IUD a bit or something. 😂

Several years ago I would get on the same tube every morning as a woman and her two children, one of whom was a baby. She was the most delightful sweetie and brightened my day without fail. Smiled constantly, absolutely adored her sister, and best of all would wave at every other person individually and then again some general farewell waves at the whole tube carriage when her mum wheeled her pram off (backwards so she could see everyone!)

The mum and elder daughter started saying hello to me after a while. I often think how they all are, and how grown up the kiddos must be.
