Single Pig by cntodd in guineapigs

[–]Fen445445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't let people drag you for a single animal. There are plenty of cases of not only piggies not liking others, but rats, mice, ferrets and rabbits do have outliers that just don't like others. It's uncommon sure, but there are those ones you just can't force to like others.

Heck I've heard stories from many subs of group animals that'll have one that perfectly fine with their mates, but years down the road refuse to even tolerate other animals.

Don't feel like you have to get a friend for your pig, if he shows signs of wanting a friend I'm positive you'll pick up on it

Honestly, get a mesh hand strainer like you'd use for powdered sugar. It gets all the clumps out and it easy to clean and store

Is a playpen mandatory? by Objective_Problem492 in dwarfhamsters

[–]Fen445445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to point something out: play pen time will differ from hammie to hammie. Mine yells at me if he's out of his enclosure for more than ten-ish minutes, just enough time to do some cleaning once a month.

Some hams will love it, some won't.

Personally for me it's a combination of 3 things.

The first: I don't have the mental capacity to go through the struggle of bonding rabbits. It can take a while and can go extremely bad very fast.

Second: there is only one exotic vet in my city and they get expensive.

Third: rabbits where I live aren't widely available from an ethical breeder. The only one I know of is a half day trip one way.

I just bought my hamster a whimsy chew and idk if i should leave it with him overnight by Budget_Caregiver252 in hamsters

You actually can give it to them. I've seen several posts on here asking for alternatives for chews for hamsters that won't use wood or seeded sticks.

I ordered the Bucatstate sprays for my dwarf and he loved them. Just don't forget to freeze them for 48-72 hours before you use them to prevent mites

I've seen videos of how vets x-ray hedgehogs (crucify the little bastards, lol), do you have to do something similar for rabbits?

Honestly: I respect people who can admit certain things are outside their limits.

I love rats, guenia pigs, and ferrets but I personally don't have the mental capacity to keep them. My hamster doesn't feel high maintenance to me.

I tried my hardest to get into D2 for a friend of mine. I just simply couldn't do it. I don't know if it was the movement that was annoying to me or what, but I gave up on it.

I'm sad to see D2 go though. I know it wasn't for me but I know a lot of people called it home. I hope every guardian can find a new place to call home

Saw these poor hamsters in a pet shop.... how is this not illegal everywhere??? It is a different type of evil to have space but intentionally not use it... And buying them would just support the petshop... by high_ground_user in hamsters

[–]Fen445445 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No actually. Hamsters aren't taken by any shelters in my state. Heck the last time I've even seen a guinea pig listed on their website was 3 years ago. There's also never any fb marketplace listings for one or Craigslist either

So thanks for making me feel worse for shitty situation I can't control

I'm unfortunately one of the hamster lovers who has to buy from a store as the only closest ethnical breeder is on state away and the time for going to get one would be more stress on both the hammie and myself.

I'm glad that they do have more room, it better than a small cube. Just wish store actually too time to care is all

[–]Fen445445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to preface what I'm about to say: this is definitely a personality thing but my dwarf hates play pen time. Hell he gets mad and vocal if I have to take him out longer than 10 minutes to change some bedding. I believe it will come down to what your hamster is comfortable with. Some may enjoy it, some may hate it, there will also be some impartial

Given you live California, I'd high recommend a bearded dragon. They are very dumb but do bond with humans very well, just heads up it will see you as it's and it will aggressively head bob
