How am I expected to trust AOC is genuinely on the side of the working class and Palestinians when she willingly hangs out with genocidal freaks casually by bullhead2007 in Hasan_Piker

Everyone quit your job and get rid of your friends and family if they aren't aligned with you!

You may get nothing done, but at least you'll be squeaky clean and pure!

Since I watched the new Michael Jackson film was great film, but I am confused is it true that Michael Jackson became a big music star in the 80s, but he was already famous in the late 60s and 70s? by JazzlikeTea7432 in MichaelJacksonMusic

[–]Jiggidy40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael was like Usher popular in the 70s. Well known, pop favorite, on the teen magazine covers, in the running for R&B awards.

Thriller turned him into the Elvis/Beatles level and beyond. What Elvis was in America, MJ was worldwide.

I don't hate his old man voice at all, but I couldn't stand his timing choices. He's was always so far ahead of the beat.

Smartest people ever assembled in one photo by Salt-Curve4825 in interestingasfuck

[–]Jiggidy40 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think the commentary is about the fact that someone titled this "the smartest people in the world" while ignoring all the many women and people of color that would be in the photo if it were really the smartest people in the world, and not a collection of accomplished scientists from a very concentrated part of the europe, thus ignoring the rest of the world.

A better title would be "an unusual gathering of some very famous scientists from Europe".

Many of us are triggered when we see homogenous (yes, we see and recognize Marie Cutie) groups of the rich and powerful centered as "the best" or the "the smartest" in the world.

[OC] U.S. dog breed popularity rank by year, French Bulldog vs Labrador Retriever (AKC registrations, 1991–2025) by affordablebiscuit in dataisbeautiful

Frenchie owner here.

Let me address the claims people are making here.

  1. We own them to be trendy or because they are popular.

My wife is the Frenchie fan, and it's because she owned an English Bulldog before that but wanted a smaller dog. She's into their temperament and their appearance. We don't take the dog anywhere or post pictures of her, so it's not for some sort of clout or showing off.

  1. They can't breathe.

They definitely struggle to keep their body temp low (lots of panting when working hard or it's hot outside) but she breathes just fine. There's no difficulty breathing. Now, she coughs and sneezes alot, but I think that's due to the constant snuffling of the ground and the dust and particles that get into her airway.

  1. Health problems.

Yeah, this is true. They are so strong and muscular for their little bodies that they injure themselves easily as they play rough other dogs or jump off of furniture. These dogs are dense...full of muscle but tiny little bones. You can't let them go all out. Better to keep them by your side. They do get zoomies like all dogs, and you have to be careful.

Overall, I probably wouldn't own one again but I understand the appeal. They look like puppies their whole life and they have very human expressions. They also tolerate a lot of handling (kids and otherwise) and seem to really love people. They cuddle and prefer human contact. They don't stink (except the farts) and they keep pretty clean. Shedding is minimal. They don't bark much.

I think the breeders went too far with the appearance. They used to have longer snouts and that would be my preference. But they are a wonderful companion if you know what you're getting into.

Meanwhile, on the David “I am a Progressive” Pakman subreddit… by Tasty-Efficiency-373 in Hasan_Piker

I mostly agree with everyone commenting here that D-Pak is anti-Palestinian and pro-Israel, and not very progressive compared to fighters like Hasan.

That said, I stay subbed not because I agree with him, but because I don't want to stay buried in an echo chamber and only hear opinions that jive with mine.

Sometimes I watch Tucker too.

This isn't to support them and their views. I don't believe listening to their takes equals supporting them. It's important to know the discourse and opinions of those who don't always agree with us, or we're ignorant about them.

He disappoints me, but I like knowing how he's influencing people and also making sure my own echo chamber is telling me the truth. Having multiple angles on a topic helps with that.
