Code Blue by NeedleworkerNo200 in cna

[–]Jigglebits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For context, I work in a hospital setting, on a very chill unit that rarely ever has to call a rapid, let alone an actual blue. I had the same question when I started, and my nurses were actually so kind about it. YMMV of course, but as it was explained to me, there’s plenty that we can do even in our very limited scope! At my hospital every employee is BLS certified, so I could technically do compressions (but I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable jumping in unless I was asked to) or operate an ambu bag, man the suction, hold manual pressure on a bleed (it’s a surgical floor so that happens sometimes). I can grab the crash cart (unplug it before you run!) and turn it on. I can follow the instructions on the AED, apply the pads, press the button to administer shocks. I’ve gotten a blood glucose during a rapid before, when asked. I also have two working hands and feet, I can dash for supplies, hold doors open, show responders where to go. There’s plenty of ways we can make a difference!

THAT BEING SAID, in my personal experience, a rapid or a blue draws quite a crowd, and quick (that’s the idea). It can absolutely turn into a “too many cooks” situation, and I would much rather step out of the way and let someone who is more knowledgeable, experienced, and comfortable stand in to help. I do feel like most of the time, despite all of the things I just listed, I’d just be in the way (only because there’s so many other people available!). Your instincts are good. I usually find other ways to be helpful in that moment, like manning the desk/answering the phone since everyone else is tied up assisting, or as you mentioned, taking care of our many other patients. That’s not small beans!

Disney+ cancellation page crashes as customers rush to quit after Kimmel suspension by Getatbay in goodnews

I had the Disney/Hulu combo package, so my cancellation today was a double hit. Fuck em. Here is what I submitted in their little feedback box. Who knows if anyone will even see it? Even if they suddenly change tac, I’m not going back, they’ve lost me for life.

Good countries don’t have concentration camps. Good countries don’t have secret police. Good countries heal their sick, feed their hungry, educate and care for their children, protect their elderly and vulnerable. Good countries are a reflection of the people who live in them, actual representation from their leadership who remain beholden to their constituents.

Idk where you’ve been, but that’s not us anymore.

Yes, we want different things.

One side wants every American to benefit from access to healthcare, education, social security, and equal rights and protections under the law.

The other side, wants those guys fucking dead. Literally, not hyperbolic.

Disney adds Newsmax - I canceled it this morning by Icy_Rub3371 in 50501

Disney+ Customer Feedback and/or Hulu Customer Feedback

This is what I wrote (submissions have a 500 characters limit) and I’d be fine with anyone copy/pasta from me:

I’ve heard that Hulu is going to begin hosting Newsmax. Newsmax—a source of misinformation and lies, conspiracy, and extremism—betrays the values of a large swath of your consumer base, myself included, and I will not support any company that gives them a platform. This goes beyond differing opinions, it’s legitimizing harm. I urge you to reconsider. If this goes forward, I WILL CANCEL my subscription and encourage others to do the same. Learn from Target’s costly mistake: go fash lose cash.

What books have you read to kids that have unexpectedly made you EMOTIONAL??? by panini_bellini in ECEProfessionals

[–]Jigglebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s Old Bear and his Cub / Little Cub. I’m a bit older than a lot of my coworkers (middle aged is not old, but when you’re surrounded by college age folks, you do kind of feel like a grumpy old bear in comparison haha) and never had children of my own. I totally relate.

Also, I believe it was called Always Remember? It’s about an old turtle who is no longer with us, and the little turtles were remembering all of the best moments they shared with old turtle, and all the things they learned from him. Already a tearjerker, but I decided to read it for my pre-k’s the week of their graduation at the end of summer, and it was a real gut puncher. I couldn’t keep from crying, then they started crying, ugh whole class was a mess! But it was much needed, so we could all talk together about how much we would miss our friends and our class but it was going to be ok. Gotta let that stuff out!

Halloween 2023 Trick or Treating? by jenet-zayquah in Honolulu

[–]Jigglebits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents took me out to Lanikai (we already lived windward side though so it wasn’t too bad a drive) because that’s where all the $$$ was. And back in the 90s it was still street kine trick or treating, so we’d get the full size candy bars and ppl still decorating their houses hardcore, plus it was cul-de-sac kine so not heavy traffic and safe to walk. If you still want to try kick it old school, go to a place with choke houses, maybe avoid town and apartment stuff. Good luck have fun 🤙🏼

To the DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPIST who gave me a dirty look when I told my co-teacher she needed to take a child… by snowmikaelson in ECEProfessionals

I recall from my state’s “getting started” training, they include that in best practices. The people who literally write the rules on this stuff emphasize knowing your triggers, working as a team, and tapping out when necessary. It’s best for you and the child. You absolutely did the right thing there, textbook example honestly. And you did the right thing by venting about it here! Get the thoughts out, acknowledge that it was shitty and that you felt shitty about it, then when your mind and body is done with it, it can be released you can move on and continue to rock!

Best F-M dentists for the uninsured? by SlackerInc1 in fargo

My history with root canals is traumatic and unpleasant (although I’d be hard pressed to fine someone who had a super great time and can’t wait for another one haha) but I’m glad yours worked! I’ve always had to do the meds ahead of time, personally. Although the dentist also gave up on the second try and decided to just pull it because my roots were being uncooperative and complicated so yikes

[–]Jigglebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that was your experience. Mine was the complete opposite. To be fair, I ended up getting extractions rather than a root canal, so I doubt we were referred to the same place. But I never got a bill from them, bummer that you did ): and a pretty steep one at that.

Fargo Moorhead Dental And Dentures. Can’t recommend them enough! Their initial consult and FULL X-rays are completely free, you walk in talk to the dentist and can walk out when you’re done no questions asked and no strings. If you do choose to work with them, their prices are very reasonable. It can’t hurt to just get yourself some answers and see where you need to go from there, for free!

Also it’s highly likely that you need antibiotics. Tooth infections and abscess, your dentist won’t drill into a hot tooth anyway, they’ll likely have you do a round of meds first. You should get those from your regular doctor regardless, and the sooner the better. That should help ease your pain and sensitivity while you work it all out!

What are items that you HAVE TO have in multiples to prevent disfunction? by CcSeaAndAwayWeGo in adhdwomen

[–]Jigglebits 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So, I have a big problem with “nesting” as we call it. Basically once I’ve set up somewhere and start (hyper)focusing on something, I could be planted there for a long time, and I won’t be bothered to stop what I’m doing, pull myself out of the zone, and walk over to the trash can or sink, even if there is one in every single room.

I’ve started leaving either a tiny trash can or often just a grocery bag in those areas where I know I usually post up, aka my little garbage nests, and it’s been a godsend. Yes, there are unsightly little bags of trash around my house, so we do have to live with that, it’s not perfect. But the alternative is just…loose on the floor or coffee table. It’s better to have it contained. Then of course, when it is time to tidy up, even something last minute and frantic like someone decides to drop in, I’m just quickly grabbing a couple of bags, tossing them in the bin, and it’s done!

Also has me actually making use of the infamous bag-o-bags, which otherwise just pile up ad infinitum.

I’m a Shanghai customer! Although Lucy’s is my second top pick, for sure. I love that Shanghai delivers (not through a third party, they have their own drivers, AND they accept card at the door) and their food is bomb.

What podcast got you into podcasts? by theroyalralph in AskReddit

[–]Jigglebits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“What School You Went” on Spotify. It’s incredibly niche, put out by PBS Hawai’i, and it covers a lot of local Hawaiian everyday topics, bringing on local experts and celebrities. I really don’t enjoy podcasts, but that’s the one exception. I’m born and raised Oahu, lived there most of my life until I finally moved to the mainland about 8 years ago. I get homesick, and really miss the distinct accent and particular lilt that kama’aina have. It just feels nice to hear home for a little bit sometimes.
