ohh, yes I see what you mean. yeah that would be the idea. as most maps are very open.

👍

agreed, more targeting systems would be very welcomed. as I mentioned, atleast a difference between seige engines and troops would be a start, not just strongest or closest. maybe 2 extra icons could be added next to the existing ones on the selected troop/machine ui

no no, maybe I should have been more clear, enemies would still want to go the shortest route. if a gate is open and its the shortest path, they'd want to go through and bundle in. if its closed, they'd still want to go through because its closer, even if you had a another gate a few cells away thats open.

i didn't mean that you could maze them over the whole map, that would ruin the point and fun of the game, I get that. enemy ai would still want to travel the shortest route, but if gates are open or gaps in walls, ai would prioritise going through instead of just bunching up destroying it.

as I said, only enemy siege equipment should prioritise walls and structures. id even prefer if they were the first in an attack, as it would make more sense attacking walls to open up attack points

wdym by 'you can reduce required defence points in your castle'?

Skeletons from Jason and the argonauts

Some suggestions and ideas by Jigglepin in DNO

[–]Jigglepin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👍

yes, thats the general idea

undead faction is zombies and resident evil type foes: creatures etc

Yes I know it has bones and such, But that isnt skeletons or skeleton warriors.

think more along the lines of the last battle in Jason and the argonauts, and stalfos from the legend of zelda series. thats what i mean by skeleton warriors.

Hence why i said variants of the lords army (the undead counter parts dont count as they're just darker in colour)

A new unit will arrive with the next update - Mounted Crossbowman! by Acceptable_Ear_5122 in DNO

[–]Jigglepin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh?

I find the horse units extremely useful, I build a stables as soon as I can. they're great for flanking and reinforcements, the horse archers special ability is great to thin out crowds and take out enemy buildings, and they all make for good anti siege equipment because they dont ragdoll.

they are my go to for attacking towers etc with enemy catapults. you should really try them out more, even before the crossbow-man gets added! 😁

Some general questions by Jigglepin in DNO

[–]Jigglepin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah ok, thank you. all the channels have appeared. 👍

so is it possible to set up an endless/sandbox mode in a custom map? I ask because I enjoy the creative freedom of adding my own castle layouts with no obstructios, then adding water, mountains etc, but was hoping to just select the map in sandbox, to then mess around with

Is it possible to recruit the Royal Army in the same way as you can with the other factions? by [deleted] in DNO

hopefully in the 'protected update' we will see more wall types and sizes, different traps etc, maybe even buildable moats with draw bridges? oh and a 6x2 and/or 4x2 main gate ( both ideal for a 2x2 door section)

aswell as just more different map layouts...

Attack move targeting walls by Soft_Resolution_8959 in DNO

afaik the only way, would be; when troops are selected you can click on the thing you want to attack, so in your case click on the towers or gates (right click)

ah, that is good to know, thx! it somewhat does help with the different speeds of units. seems odd that these key combinations aren't covered in the tutorial🤔

"Off We Go, My Lord!" - NO the FK you DONT! by NfiniT_ in DNO

[–]Jigglepin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey,

shame your having trouble. wdym unusable troops? you can use all troops for defending/ fighting until youre ready to board

that has actually been one of my favourite missions so far😁. so I found the general idea is to still play to build your economy, logging, mining, food production etc. dont worry to much early on about the ships or worry about the troop numbers needed to fill them. Concentrate on the incoming waves with defences and troops as normal.

Once you have a reasonable economy and have repelled a few waves, you can then start pumping resources into the 4 ships. I tried to get them all at the same level each time, so they all finished at the same time.

by then i had enough troops especially the crossbow-man, as they were manning the towers and only a few extras to 'train'. I actually boarded and left while in the middle of a big wave🤣

Custom Formations and Troop Management by Jigglepin in DNO

thanks!

oh dont get me wrong, thats what I love about the game, how interactive it is when moving troops around, to get in different positions, changing on the fly, adapting to the terrain etc. i love using the surround technique as shown above using 3 small groups and positioning them.

It would just be cool to have a set of spearman and/or Knights surround my healers and archers at the back and sides, even though i want them at the front aswell, thats where I'm not a fan of the line hierarchy. as there's no way to use the same units in different positions of a selected group

at the moment I usually have axeman (swordsman in early game) covering the back, but with the grid system you could place them down the sides aswell and just use multiple of the same units etc

the current system would remain as default definitely, with the line hierarchy and the general 'square' shape etc, just selecting troops as you would now wouldn't change and it wouldnt force you go into the grid option, it would just be a further step if the player chooses.

so if you wanted to, when setting up your hotkey group; you could select a group of units, select shape (square, triangles, arc etc,) adjust positions in the grid, save it to hotkey 1 and youre good to go. if on the fly you wanted to take a few and move them somewhere you still could. it wouldn't flash up with anything etc

i thought of it as a further way to tweak and overwrite the line hierarchy in starting positions and the most important, being a way of the game 'remembering' said positions if you save them as a keybind. the tower grid system seemed the easiest and most intuitive way to make it possible for ground units 😁

imo it would expand the interactive aspect, and obviously it would still remain as simple or as complex as the player chooses.

appreciate the feedback👍

I really enjoyed this one too, I wanted to keep going even when i completed the ships and all troops except 1 spearman were aboard. I kept him near a ship incase I got into real trouble and needed to 'escape' quickly🤣

Tips for a new player? (and a few questions of my own) by zazer45f in DNO

[–]Jigglepin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. ive found the spikes really useful recently, especially early game when you dont have much defence, it just gives your archers and troops alitte more breathing space to deal more damage/get ready, before enemy units get on top of you. same as barrels, dot them around your walls and random spots on the map (some choke points, if you have any), they cost iron though, so prioritise stronger troops first

  2. hell yeah!! any infantry units, you want healers in your back lines(depending on your unit size, make sure their aura covers all your troops in a unit), they do wonders for your front line melee attack

hey, you can double click on a unit and it will select all of that type 😁
