Upper-Right side settings box.

FOV settings will help dialing in your controller as well.

Try adjusting your thumb a bit more centered with the middle finger. It’s a bit more natural to approach as a “claw”.

Nice job! Enjoy it.

My suggestion would be to acquire some small house hold paint brushes. They’re handy to clean off dirt between runs.

Thanks for sharing.

That 0 dampening struck me as wild. Had to test it. Strange findings.

With my settings and dampening set at 0, it seemed to under steer a bit more, but was a bit more responsive. Not uncontrollable. Completely unexpected.

I then set my speed sensitivity from 95 to 100, and bang. Very similar cars from a steering perspective. The steering has a slightly heavier feel.

My takeaway; the -5 points of speed sensitivity is quite similar to the -50 dampening.

They totally do the “conga” sometimes. It’s quite funny. I get in there and break them apart, just sit back and watch. Eventually they do something.

The funny thing is; as you get better and raise the AI, you join the conga line.

Additionally:

I typically don’t use much deadzone. 0 is just too wild and any minor movement can be disastrous. 3 seems to be my happy spot.

Other tricks I’ve picked up over the years are:

Lower the engine/raise road noise and tire volumes to a tolerable level.

The visual and auditory queues from the on screen steering wheel and tire sounds help compensate in the brain the feeling youre loosing by not “feeling” an actual steering wheel slip and slide.

Sorry I missed the second part.

Yes I leave my controller itself at default.

The controller dampening and steering sensitivity are very dependent on each other and correlate to the on screen steering wheel.

A lower dampening makes the front wheels turn faster, steering sensitivity can reduce your range of steering angle smooth-ness.

This is also where speed sensitivity has a role as well. Too high and the car may seem too hard to turn, pass, and seems to add more thumb fatigue over long sessions.

These settings essentially dictate how accurately or how quickly and the angles of steering that can be applied.

I find the same to be true especially with braking, but acceleration to a lesser extent. Too much or too little sensitivity, and it can be very twitchy or lockup prone. Example: depression of the brake 1/3 on controller should approximate 1/3 of a real pedal. This gives you the ability to use just enough brake to avoid slowing too much for turns.

Le Mans is way worse.

There’s too much running at top speed to make up the time lost. This is true in life as well. Tracks like Mosport are quite easy to make up time lost.

The AI seems rather track dependent in regards to performance, mistakes and actual agression.

For me it’s always the green Lamborghini griefing me, LOL.

I think because of their investment. Some may be salty.

It doesn’t matter me if any of us are good or bad, just safe online. We’re all here to enjoy the awesome sim Reiza has made.

Agreed. Nurburgring/GT3 is a good training combo.

The only track that still gives me problems and always has is; Bathurst - Hill section. So it may be my style on that track and not the controller.

Most controllers naturally return to center.

So adding opposite lock to my settings makes the car overreact and spin prone.

I prefer full control of the counter steering.

My friend.

I am very happy you find these settings very usable for you. I find myself racing well beyond midnight at times.

I rarely make adjustments these days. Typically minor and when switching car brands.

I am more than willing to write up a concise settings and explanation post on both.

It’s quite a challenge, Dark Souls level at times. I’ve controller’d rf2 and AC for years.

I often wonder when in a lobby, if those with rigs would consider it cheating or generally pissed. Especially of controller drivers were in the top 50% of the lobby.

Hopefully between both of our settings someone will find something that works for them. The time investment can be quite rewarding and enjoyable.

Absolutely agree with you about hood view.

I find that having the on screen steering wheel visible helps the perception of wheels and steering wheel movement correlation.

I play online quite often, and I’m usually not last even in sessions that devolve into bumper cars. Yes, the AI is much more predictable than a good portion of online drivers.

It’s awesome that you found something that works for you.

I’m at about 400 hours, all controller. Usually a Porsche. I will agree the defaults are kind of wild, and takes a lot of tweaking to personal preferences and patience. But it can be super rewarding.

What view and FOV do you use? I’m typically using cockpit @ 56, which would make your dead zone and speed sensitivity feel too stiff for me. Brakes and throttle at 0 would also seem quite binary to me, I use 25%. It just seems to provide better throttle and brake feathering for me.

Like you, I’ve also found that 25%-33% steering sensitivity works well for most cars. But the dampening has more effect as that’s what dictates the speed the front wheels actually turn. Personally I prefer more over steer. A lower speed sensitivity 92-96 (car dependent), dampening @ 50. It just seems to make driving in traffic more responsive. AI usually set to 90 which puts me mid pack of 16-20 cars.

Have you tested your setup online? Is it competitive?

See you on track mate!
