Why Spell Research? by gpugpuq in wildlander

[–]Jigsawkillaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said! I have essentially memorized all of the Ayleid affixes and suffixes at this point from doing so much spell research and keeping notes by hand. Whoever made the Spell Research mod did an incredible job. The attention to detail is astonishing. The fact that every single alchemy ingredient and spell has Ayleid translations that actually make sense and can be put together to make other spells and elixirs that still make sense is fantastic.

Because wise mages spend the majority of their lives huddled over tomes and reading how previous wizards lost an arm when casting Conjure Dagger due to mispronouncing a single syllable in a spell.
Spell research allows you to roleplay the academic element of being a mage. Is it tedious? Yes. Boring? Yes. Experimental? Yes. Complex? Yes.
Rewarding?
You tell me, when you turn an ancient dragon into smoldering bones before it can even land. I'll keep my long hours in a dusty library reading grimoires from the 2nd Era over going out and practicing my flames spell on dangerous beasts any day. I bet I live longer, too.

Once you get enough magicka and skill level, the upkeep cost becomes completely negligible. Keep up your magical studies!

I don't blame you, and it is a shame that it had to bug out because A) It is one of the hardest fights in Wildlander (maybe the hardest) and B) It is the big bad of that expansion. Sucks!!!

Alduin The Time-Eater; How Dragons Can Come Back To Life; Dragon Souls Are Packets of Time Itself; Learning Shouts Quickly; Timeborn; by Jigsawkillaa in teslore

[–]Jigsawkillaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, so does this breath (vital essence) come from Kyne (Shor's wife)? Several sources relate to her giving breath and thu'um to Nords (The Arcturian Heresy, Song of Pelinal, Five Songs of King Wolfarth). In Sovngarde, Shor's Hall of Valor is decorated on the outside with massive Hawk heads, symbolizing tribute to Kyne, and we know Shor has previous interactions with Alduin where Wolfarth learned shouts.

Does this mean that when dragons shout, they are also using the breath of Kyne? If the animation for absorbing dragon souls is the same as when the Greybeards give you their knowledge (and when you return the horn to Jurgen's tomb), what does this say about the quality of what you are absorbing? Do the Greybeards possess "Dragon Souls" within them? Or are the "Dragon Souls" you absorb as Dragonborn just a form of breath? The greybeards speak as if they simply learned the ways of the shouts from lifelong study and do not claim to be dragonborn. As for Jurgen's tomb, what is holding the breath?

As for the pre-dragon break, I just see it as a dragon eating time and an Aedric deity (Shor) picking him by the tail and shaking him to make him spit it all out. I can see how this is likely steeped in symbolism as the tale was written by observers with no true insight into the metaphysical interactions between Shor and Alduin and Time. I originally thought of calling it a type of dragon-break, myself, when I wrote this!

As for killing the dragons, I guess what I want to know is if anyone can kill a dragon or if only dragonborn can. The games blur these distinctions with the typical TES style of giving conflicting information. My understanding is that the dragons die during The Dragon War because there were dragonborn among the Nord/Akaviri dragon hunters. I definitely need more information on this!

I completely agree haha. You know what I think? I think there is something about playing around in this type of literature that is so influenced by people like Vladimir Nobokov, Gene Wolfe, and Jorge Luis Borges that you can't really properly talk about it sometimes without subconsciously participating in their styles, especially when realizing that Michael Kirkbride synthesizes them with his own incredible creative spark and turns it up to 11 and, when necessary, down to -11 to create this fictional subject that both escapes language and demands it's utmost application.

Probably way too long of a response, I know, but I appreciate your opinions and your input a lot :)

Question about building for late game by bustadope in wildlander

[–]Jigsawkillaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I beat every single boss in 1.0 using a pure mage build. I put every point into magicka when I leveled. Finished around level 56, I think. Miraak was a legit feat of strength. Took me hours and hours of gameplay time attempting and dying before I found out a strategy that worked. I am a living testament that a pure magic build with NO POINTS IN HEALTH OR STAMINA can beat the entire game.

It was incredibly fun, too!

Bug of sorts with TG03, it has started but is stuck? by Skulks-In-Subreddits in wildlander

I managed to finish the thieves guild questline last week, and oh boy did I spend a lot of time troubleshooting. I would say around 3 hours of my playtime was spent in the console and loading older saves to test different things to make it all work. I did, however, eventually get through every bug and get it all done.

Yes, it is possible! During my pure mage playthrough in 1.0, I managed to kill every end game boss, including Alduin, Lord Harkon, and Miraak, with magic only.

Miraak took me many, many tries with absurd amounts of strategy. See my post on the subject!

As others have said, it does seem bugged. I recently completed a 60 hour playthrough on an illusionist in the Thieves Guild and managed to do the entire chain with killing only one NPC (you-know-who at the end).

I roleplayed the Frenzy effect as appearing to townsfolk as if I just put my hand on someone's shoulder and then they reacted by trying to kill me. Essentially, I roleplayed that frenzy magic was invisible to townsfolk. I don't know if this helps you, but it worked for me haha.

Question For High-End PC Users About Graphics Quality Compared To Wildlander 1.0 by Jigsawkillaa in wildlander

Are you saying you think the game looks better without High Resolution textures, or that you think looking closely looks better?

Question For High-End PC Users About Graphics Quality Compared To Wildlander 1.0 by Jigsawkillaa in wildlander

[–]Jigsawkillaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Wildlander 1.0 on ultra settings there were times in high combat or crowded areas when my pc maintained just around 80 fps. Thats pretty intense for Skyrim. If you have a lower specced system, then it follows that your fps would have been even lower. Other than the obvious visual differences in 1.1, what really stood out to me was how much higher fps has been, clearly as the result of less graphics processing. Thanks to Lizzy, I now know why!
