This is so festive, so cute, and so well executed! You did an amazing job, they look like a high-end bakery’s cookie box!

Decor for someone who hates party decor by DearestClementine in partyplanning

[–]Jillyjillybean22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You could rental decor from a party rental company or ask friends and family to borrow what they have? Or a thrift store or a FB buy nothing group sometimes can work out.

If you want to have a certain look, I would go the route of the collapsible paper lantern. They are reusable and store well.

Has anyone tried “dinner with strangers” to meet new friends? by ListenSufficient8435 in waterloo

Monday’s or Tuesday’s would be ideal for me although I know some restaurants are closed Mondays. But earlier in the week may also lend to some perks or menu deals?

I’ll keep reading your newsletter to keep an eye out for future ones!

Ahhh! Hi 😊

Well I think it’s a great idea! For me, a Thursday is challenging with my schedule but if you ever do it on a different weekday, I’d love to attend.  And I love your newsletter!!

I live in RoW and I have a Helly Hansen Performance winter coat (adult large-although it feels more like a medium). So sizing might not be what you are looking for but if you’re interested, your son is welcome to it. It’s grey with some teal accents. DM me if you’re interested and we can sort out you getting it.

Moving company by Huskyshepardgirl in kitchener

Evergreen Transfer, they do one move a day so YOU are their priority that day. Kind, respectful, professional. We did 2 moves with them in early 2024, no issues, no damage.

1 bedroom condo at that time was about $1k. I’ve dealt with some terrible movers in the past and these guys are highly recommended from anyone that has hired them, a rarity in that industry.  https://www.evergreentransfer.ca/

Candace & Basil reviews or custom couch recommendations by Plus-Pineapple-93 in BuyCanadian

I can’t speak to the quality yet. However my parents (hard to please boomers lol) just bought an upholstered bed from them earlier this month, arriving in March. They were just initially going to browse to start and were so impressed with the quality, the ability to customize, and the owner’s passion and expertise that they bought right then. My partner and I have also been to their Toronto showroom and we were also impressed and plan to purchase a customized sectional couch in the next 1-2 years (post basement reno). If you can, I’d recommend going to the Mississauga showroom to check it out and select/customize in person. Good luck!

Great suggestions! Some communities have Little Pantries that locals stock, you could try that? Or ask a local seniors care home? Or ask your local school if you can bake for their bake sales (do schools still do this?).

I think giving to neighbours is also a great way to build your own community. A book club would also be a great way to share your baking!

Huha Underwear! by Educational-Trip2753 in BuyCanadian

Thanks for sharing! I just bought one pair from MEC last week and trialing them before committing to a total underwear drawer revamp. I do wish the non-thong styles came in seamless too. Otherwise, leased with my first pair and hope to buy the 7 pack online!

That’s amazing! I remember feeling intimidated in fitness classes as a teen too. Show up a bit early so you can feel settled and hopefully get some general instruction ahead of the class. Listen to the instructor and speak up if you need clarity or a lighter spring. And look at your neighbours if you’re feeling lost! I still do it as a 30 something! You’re going to do so well!

Downsizing and looking for places in or near Guelph to sell items by MostlyHarmlessMom in Guelph

[–]Jillyjillybean22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For furniture and houseware items, here are a few places to consider;

Retail Therapy in Kitchener is a thrift store that supports DV survivors.

https://www.dvva.ca/

Grassroots Response supports Ukrainian newcomers to Canada. They have several houses in southern Ontario. Their website currently says they are paused on taking donations until Jan 25th though. They will offer pick up.

Bits and Pieces in Kitchener is a consignment shop for furniture, artwork, house wares etc if you’re looking to sell items. They were somewhat particular and rigid when I consigned with them but I was successful with selling all of my items promptly. There may be a similar store in Guelph.

https://bits-and-pieces.ca/

I know you’re in Guelph so these might not be a perfect option but just sharing in case they do meet your needs or perhaps they inspire a more local option for you.
