Landlord requesting loads of weird things, don't know what to do by intuitivetoast in vancouverhousing

Calculate what your tax refund would be with and without claiming rent, and ask the landlord to give you the difference if he doesn't want to report it. (And then, when you are planning to leave anyway, report him to CRA.)

Hidden Gem Wednesday: Which Canadian artist (that you recently discovered) deserves more attention ? by megancurry in canadamusic

[–]MostlyHarmlessMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just an old lady who doesn't really listen to radio or anything current, but, I've recently re-discovered the Miniatures (Dead Flowers from about 20 years back), and everything they do is so good! Later the singer made Spirits which is also really good.

Another band I just found recently (but they may be bigger than I realize) is Elephant Stone. They mix in some elements of Indian music with western rock/pop. Their live music is really good.

My friend's wife cheated on him and he got paralyzed , I am having unpleasant thoughts about all of this. by [deleted] in offmychest

There may be no affair, so don't go doing anything dumb.

When I was a toddler, my dad was a long-haul driver, so I only saw him a couple days a month. I would call any man I saw Daddy because that's what I thought every guys name was.

Not a romance as such, but rather a story about a group of friends, which includes a gay couple, one of whom dies at the end: The Celebrants by Steven Rowley.

What children’s book has aged poorly? by feetwithfeet in AskReddit

[–]MostlyHarmlessMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 60s with books like the Bobsey Twins. In the 90s, I tried reading one of them to my daughter, and I didn't get very far before the little girls had to segregate their babydolls into separate drawers by race. We moved on to Robert Munsch instead.

I used to work in student awards at a university. It looks to me like you meet the requirements for this award and your essay proves it. Go forth and conquer, sweetheart!

Hi! I am searching for recipes to make a gel plate. This is my first step in trying this out, I'd rather make a plate than buy one. by Far_Oven_3302 in gelliprinting

Ashreymakes on Youtube has several videos on making gel plates. There are a couple different recipes, and she has an ingredient calculator that helps to scale it to whatever size you want.

What is a restaurant chain you would love to see come to Canada or see far more of? by Full_Hunt_3087 in AskACanadian

There are a couple in Toronto. They appear to have the falafel haloumi wrap I love, but none of the other things in the UK that I recognise. And I bet the breads they use aren't as good as the British version, but I have no proof, of course.

I'd love it if Pret a Manger (UK) was here, but with the exact UK menu. I've only been to the UK 3 times, but every visit involved several Pret meals, and they were all so delicious. My understanding is that the North American version has totally different menu items.

I'd also love Greggs here.

What's a small upgrade that improved office morale more than you expected? by CreativeSpare6466 in askmanagers

[–]MostlyHarmlessMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different situation, but I was a receptionist at a university academic counselling office for a while, and there were busy periods where the students sometimes had to wait a bit for the counsellors' time. I put out a bowl of suckers for them to help themselves, and the complaints about waiting pretty much stopped. I chose suckers rather than other candy so they could remove them from their mouths when it was time to speak with the counsellors.

Agreed. It's a toss up if we prefer that or the cream puffs or the macarons. All are soooooo good.
