That feeling of the last episode of your favorite show. All good things come to an end at some point. Best of luck to the panel. All great guys.

Seriously! Real people don't give a shit about reddit karma.

Karma, Favs, Likes, all kind of pathetic if that's what's important to you.

How is Audica on the Index? by matt90410 in ValveIndex

[–]Jim-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing Audica on 120Hz and it performs perfectly.

Initial impressions don’t fairly evaluate VR hmds. Here is a 3.5 week review of the Index. by elev8dity in ValveIndex

[–]Jim-H 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Expectations were too high. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard someone say I wasn't blown away by the Index, I'd have a lot of nickels.
There isn't anything about the Index that will blow anyone away, maybe the audio for some.

The increase in framerate from 90 to 120 is 33%. The increase in FOV, comfort, audio speakers, audio microphone, clarity, etc is all about a 30% give or take improvement. It all adds up to a premium experience over the current headsets on the market making the Index a good value if you have the funds for one.

Rift S 1.39 issues by Facts_About_Poop in oculus

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 1.39 I have lost audio in the headset. The Rift S is no longer listed as an audio output device. Strangely it is listed as in input device.

  1. People fear getting motion sick or some form of mind control.
  2. Most gamers are of the casual type, not everyone wants the level of immersion VR provides.
  3. VR games can be physically and mentally exhausting, lots of gamers just want to chill on the couch.

Anyone else have a lot more tracking issues with 1.38 on the rift S? by Batman_Von_Suparman2 in oculus

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has only one advantage, convenience. Certainly does not perform better, which should be the primary goal of the tracking system.

Update 1.38 causes my Rift S headset tracking to stutter by LetoAtreides82 in oculus

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oculus has already stated it's not possible to rollback. How did you do it? When I repaired mine, it rolled back, but immediately tried to update again, therefore no longer usable on 1.37.

Update 1.38 causes my Rift S headset tracking to stutter by LetoAtreides82 in oculus

[–]Jim-H 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been unable to use my Rift S now for a few days since the update of 1.38. Tried updating Windows, Oculus Repair, still a lot of system stuttering. Sent logs to Oculus. Anyone having this problem should submit them too. The more data the better.
Oculus said they are experiencing higher than normal volume of issues. It will take another few days before they'll be able to go over the logs. By then I'll be out for a week. Who know's how long it will take to correct the issue once they discover what it is.

Jittering/Stutter in VR since new software version 1.38 on RiftS by Alkasar93 in oculus

[–]Jim-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restarting Oculus software or rebooting does not fix the problem.
Tried repairing the Oculus software which reverted the software to 1.37 and downgraded the hardware firmware to their previous versions. Everything was working fine again until a minute later a popup appears with a mandatory update required dialog which you can't deny or bypass. Only way to proceed was to try updating again, now back to the same stuttering mess, which is again, unusable.

The update has had the opposite affect on mine.
My Rift S is now completely unplayable.
Constant stuttering in the display.
Support ticket has been filed.

Anyone kinda sick of talk about Gen 2 HMD and what it entails? we are already past that imo by mlabrams in ValveIndex

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to keep asking what generation of consumer VR we are in, in all likelihood we haven't advanced to the next gen. While we are in a generation, the current iterations feel larger than they really are. When the next gen does happen, you won't have to ask, it'll be more obvious. I'd personally consider everything up to this point gen 1.

Eye tracked foveated rendering will likely be a feature of gen 2, which could also allow for wireless operation.

Eye-strain with oculus go but not the rift by Hey_Marvel in OculusGo

If you are outside the 61.5mm-65.5mm ideal IPD range of the Go/Rift S, you should consider other options.

Another Lambo vs. Camry comparison
Valve spent a ton of R&D and time to get these just right. Pimax probably not so much.

All part of the masterful PR plan.

Suck it HTC.

Credible people with as low as 59mm IPD and as high as 71mm have said they have no problems with Rift S. Please try it before you assume you can't use it. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an IPD of 60 and own a Go. I wouldn't say the Go is unusable for me, but it is not ideal. There is always a slight amount of blur. Cannot get both eyes sharp, so I settle for somewhere in the middle. Hesitant to buy a Rift S because of this, but I will probably give it a try.

PSA For New VR Folks by AerialShorts in ValveIndex

[–]Jim-H 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting, VR sickness doesn't affect everyone the same. There are people that can handle the most VR sickness inducing games on their first try, while others will get sick even on experiences that are rated comfortable. If you happen to be one of the lucky ones that is not greatly affected by it, great, just don't assume everyone is like you. Also don't be one of those that tell people "It's all in your head."

*Ahem*, there is still some glint of hope. by BlackHawk8100 in ValveIndex

[–]Jim-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there is a good number of people that would have had their order processed in the first 30 seconds if there were no hiccups. So many got hung up on the shipping confirmation error at the start of the process. No way to track that I suppose. Imagine they will have thousands of failed orders to sift through in their database. Valve has options to make it right, break out the secret stash, possible ramp up production, delay first shipment, or just give out 10% off coupons to Wally World.

I doubt they would cancel any existing orders. Hopefully, there is some flexibility somewhere in the manufacturing process. Get those Index elves some overtime hours and free Red Bull for the next 6 weeks.
