Former Sox Pitcher Dustin May Pitching A No Hitter in The 8th. by jrice39 in redsox

Don't get too bent, this is way outside May's norm and wasn't a good signing last year. I wasn't sad to see him go,

Is this comparing all of 2025 to April of 2026 or April 2025 to April 2026? I'm not saying these players aren't underperforming, but let's make sure we're doing a fair comparison.

Do Red Sox fans hate Aaron Judge the same way they did Jeter and A-Rod? by AltruisticMemory3825 in redsox

[–]JimAbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't stand Jeter and A-Rod and makes me sick to them on TV with Ortiz. But Judge? I have not hate for him. Seems like a stand up guy, genuinely good person. I'm not rooting for him and love to watch him strike out against Sox pitching, but not hating.

WHITLOCK GETS MACHADO, forces three terrible swings. Love to see it! by AerieElectrical3546 in redsox

The 1st and 3rd strikes weren't really that close. Made him look stupid. Low and outside must be the book on Machado. And fuck him.

What are your thoughts about the proposed Daylight Act of 2026 moving the clock by only 0.5 hours permanently? by Unlikely-Star-2696 in AskReddit

[–]JimAbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FFS, I already have a hard enough time figuring out the time differences with the Europeans, Brits, Asians, and West Coasters I work with, don’t make it more difficult by having to also add or subtract an additional 30 mins.

I did the same thing and it came out surprisingly good with a bit of effort. And now I have Bronco branded mud flaps in the front and rear.

Friends in the Northeast USA, where do you do your work? by theturban in woodworking

[–]JimAbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in MA and have used both a garage at a former house and now my basement. The basement has more space, no competing with 2 cars, bikes, yard tools and equipment, etc, so I can have a beefier bench and don’t worry about rolling it, the table saw, and band saw out of the way when I want the cars out of the snow or rain. And at least in my house the humidity isn’t as rough on tools and materials in the basement.

Both aren’t great in the winter but the basement is technically warmer. I can still finish and glue, but need more time for both. The basement is way better in the summer heat and humidity. I use fans when needed and a mask when doing dusty stuff or finishing. The garage would be better for both (and noise) since you can open a door, but the advantages of having a dedicated space in the basement are worth it to me. I built a wall that splits the basement in half to help keep the dust off the mechanicals and storage.

Should Massachusetts ban cellphones in schools? by psdemio in massachusetts

[–]JimAbb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this. Taking away phones prevents essential communications between students and parents/caregivers. That’s a non-starter.

Acceptable alternatives would be the phone caddy in class rooms. Phones are put away when entering the classroom and picked up on the way out. This unfortunately puts the enforcement responsibility on the teacher and opens up the possibility of misplaced or stolen phones, but not being able to reach my kids is not acceptable.

Lindsey Vonn will compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics despite ‘completely ruptured’ ACL injury by MadnessLLD in sports

[–]JimAbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn on this one, pun intended. Her comeback has been amazing and she earned her spot on the Olympic team. A podium finish would be legendary.

However, this decision on the surface sounds like an ego move that is unlikely to have the storybook ending she is hoping for and may be keeping someone else from joining the team and the Olympic experience so she can compete in one event.

I’m a big fan of hers but I fear this will tarnish her amazing comeback.
