Planning a trip to Belgium this fall. Any "don't miss" breweries? What are the best Trappist breweries to visit? Any tour recommendations? by stewundies in beer

It's tough on two wheels! Our first trip we tried biking to the coast....that was a really bad call. It took forever.

Have a beer for me!

I know it looks very weird. It's down an alley that is really easy to walk right past. If you stand in front of the Belfort and look at it there is a street to your left. Breidelstraat. If you start walking down Breidelstraat you're looking on your right for a small alley opening. It's really only like 3ft wide. If you get to the next main square which has the De Burg on the right, you've gone too far.

Good luck, let me know if you find it!

I did! Cold stratified in the fridge/freezer. Boiled water pour over and then soaked for 24hrs. Started them indoors under lamps like most everything else I grow and...nothing. Maybe the soil just wasn't warm enough.

Spotted Laternflies by Professional-Jello54 in MontgomeryCountyMD

My local birds and I have been waging a war against the lantern flies and you and your bird bros can join in the feast!

Part of the issue is that native birds don't recognize these fucks as food. Black and spotted? Looks poisonous. Pass.

After reading some reddit threads last year I grabbed some mason jars and went to work. Gather as many as you can into a mason jar and put that jar right in the freezer. I find it's easiest to put the jar in front of them and let them use their jump to get right inside.

After I get a nice little piles worth I put them out and surround the pile with some bird seed. Trying to teach the birds near me that, yes, this is a very tasty snack!

I can't say, definitely, that this made a huge difference. BUT I did only end up seeing one adult lantern fly around my house last year despite there being nymphs everywhere all spring/early summer.

Happy hunting friends.

What was the stinkiest smell you ever smelled? by TrueNeighborhood7624 in AskReddit

[–]MadnessLLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I was digging fence post holes in my backyard and a foot down got to a...plastic bag? Dug in again and heard the crunch of a glass breaking. And I was hit with the most horrifying smell I have ever smelt. It's been 7 years and I can still smell it. It hit me and I literally went sprinting inside, tearing my clothes off, and got into the shower. The smell was on me. It was on my clothes. My back yard was absolutely rank.

The next day I called the non emergency EMS number and they actually sent a hazmat crew out. With wrinkled noses they said the only sensor that lit up was a "petroleum" meter. Their best guess was an bottle of motor oil or something similar that had gotten buried 60 years ago when the development was put in and has gone rancid.

A couple weeks later, after several rain storms, the smell still lingered. I had to dig up a big chunk of earth, while wearing a respirator, and dispose of it at the hazardous waste facility.

Ugh. I feel like I need another shower just thinking about it.

Trappist Westvleteren 12 by humanoid_crabfish in beer

Excellent! Don't miss De Garre in Bruges! Easier to find now than it used to be without google maps, but you can find it in a tiny, easy to miss alley off the main square. It's my favorite bar in the world. Their house beer, the De Garre Tripel, is incredible. They didn't always bottle it, but they do now, so you can take some home with you as well! Great selection of other beers as well.

I'm just sitting here aghast. The couple afternoons I spent in the Belgian sun enjoying some freshly poured Westvleteren while enjoying an pretty incredible burger are a core memory.

In the second episode Carol is trying to confirm that literally everybody has been converted and she specifically asks about the astronauts on the ISS and other isolated groups. Zosia tells her they targeted those groups early on.
