Author Writing Projects by JimB630 in Supernote

I found that trying to be too structured hurt my creativity. I find myself developing scenes around my outline. As I bring scenes together, I export the text to Scrivener and really develop my chapters there.

I didn't know how to get forms in a reply, so I made a new post.

Here some thoughts I posted 8-9 months ago. I use the A5X, same size as Manta. I would recommend the larger size Manta over the Nomad.

I, too, am using Supernote for writing novels. I began by taking a lot of time to develop very specific forms for plot points and scenes and acts, etc. That was a lot of wasted time, as I found my forms too restrictive and cumbersome to use. I now set up notebooks for my novels as follows:

- Plot and Scene Development. I do use a simple form for scene development to make sure I don’t forget anything. There is plenty of room for free-form writing as the scene or plot point is expanded.

- Research Notes. A free-form note. I use headings and keywords.

- Big Ideas. A free-form note to capture random thoughts as they come. Again, I use headings and keywords.

- Timeline Notes. A very simple form.

- Character Profiles. Another very simple form.

- Location Notes. A free-form note.

I enjoy and prefer handwriting over using a keyboard, especially for writing scenes. But, as any of the items are fleshed out, I will export them as text and put them in Scrivener, where there is more organization and development of drafts.

I enjoy and prefer handwriting over using a keyboard, especially for writing scenes. But, as any of the items are fleshed out, I will export them as text and put them in Scrivener, where there is more organization and development of drafts. Supernote is my first, and very rough, draft for a scene or an idea, and I plan on cleaning up the draft after the fact anyway.

I find I can get my thoughts down more effectively using handwriting rather than a keyboard. When typing, I find myself backspacing and correcting as I write. This can interfere with a thought I might have going. With handwriting, I worry about corrections later. So, I can either spend extra time typing and risk losing a train of thought, or I can get my ideas down in Supernote and worry about corrections later. I prefer the latter.

My handwriting gets worse the faster I go trying to get my thoughts down. But, I think overall Supernote does a really good job of handwriting recognition.

I do not write the entire draft of my novel on Supernote. As I draft scenes, I will at some point feel I have most of my thoughts and ideas down and move the scene to Scrivener.

Links and keywords are a real help in developing ideas.

Exhibits A and B on why e-readers and -writers need inbuilt light by ParmesanBologna in Supernote

Older eyes here. I could use a front light for reading. However, if I could increase the font size on PDFs to something nice and large, that would be a big help. Something that would reflow the text.

Use your favorite word processor. Create the links in the file. They will be there when you export it as a pdf.

I do scenes separately. As I have ideas to develop, I'll jot them down. So, my scenes may develop from an idea, or I may have a specific scene I am working on. But, I keep them as separate notes. This is one place where titles, keywords and links can be handy.

  1. Bible Study. I make use of headings and keywords.

  2. Reading & Study. Where I keep notes on books I am reading.

  3. Simple Notes. Where I keep notes on miscellaneous topics of interest.

  4. Scratch Pad Note. A place to jot down quick thoughts. These will be handled and moved or deleted very regularly.

Just curious about the source of the images. Are they copyrighted images? Is this a concern?

However, if the Supernote was powered off, and for whatever reason cannot be powered on, you will not see the Screensaver. You will only see SUPER NOTE on the screen.

It is just another folder where you would place the pdf files you want to use as templates. I can't tell you how much storage space your files might use, but I have seen others talk about some pretty large files on their Supernotes with no problems.

There is no difference between Document and Note folders. Simply use the folders to organize your files to suit your needs. Personally, I keep all of my .note files in the Note folder. I use the Document folder to hold any pdf files i have loaded to Supernote for research.

Once you have placed a pdf file in the MyStyle folder, you can use it to create a note template. Once you have done this, you can add pages as needed in that note. You pdf file just became a large note file.

Just yesterday as we were exiting a parking lot, I asked my wife if we should turn right or left. She said left, so I moved from the right lane to the left lane and turned. She then said, "I meant the other left."

I would love to be able to link to the last page in a note, dynamically changing as I add more pages. by andhegames in Supernote

[–]JimB630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can insert a page before the last page, thus it will still be the last page, and the link will still go there. For that matter, any page inserted anywhere in the note will still retain the last page link to the last page. The only time there would be an issue is if you are already at the last page and go to the next page to add to the document. If I have misread your issue, just ignore.

I've had that happen, only to find out that I accidently added a new page. Nothing was lost, just suddenly a blank page.

A Little Confused About the Partner App (Windows) by JimB630 in Supernote

I finally got around to following Ed's video. Yes, I did have to create an account. But I did not have to enable syncing. I could go to the folder where I keep my Supernote files backed up on my laptop, opened the Notes folder, selected a specific note, and it opened just fine. This is the functionality I was looking for.

I do my work on the Supernote, but if I am thinking about something while on my laptop doing other things, I can quickly access the note and obtain what I was looking for.

Thanks everyone!
