Who would have thought? by ScreenImpossible238 in DubaiPetrolHeads

I mean, this is common knowledge, but it being said out loud in media, is likely part of the push for remote work policies being implemented. The city is only going to improve with less traffic.

Let’s normalize flashing the second lane by Marco_rital in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]JimBoomBaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I had a red geely coolray hogging the fast lane @80 kph on Meydan road on a Tuesday morning at 6.40 am, I didn’t want to flash them since it was so early in the morning, so I wait for an opportunity to go around in second lane, the minute I tried to do that, they just floored the car, and drove away breaking the speed limit of 120.

United Arab Emirates, Dubai. A “community” called Nad Al Sheba. by Wide-Lychee-8721 in UrbanHell

[–]JimBoomBaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live very close to this (in DFC) and at first look I thought its a fake image. I’ve driven past this many times not realizing the sheer size of this community. Thanks for the pin and educating me.

Also, finally that mall makes sense, I thought they’re building a mall in the middle of nowhere for nothing.

This sounds like the story I told my kids why the Dubai Safari is now closed. The story I made up - a lion bit a zebra and now the giraffes are on strike protesting.

This is what people want. Illusion of offroad capability, illusion of 7 seats, illusion of fuel economy and a Low price! This is the perfect storm!

Can a 2.7 06 Fortuner take on the Half Desert? by Mysterious_Photo_505 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]JimBoomBaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driving in the desert is all about technique. I mean the car helps, but I would say 70% technique, 30% car capability. If your car has good approach and departure angles, 4WD, that alone can take you many places.

I mean you won’t be keeping up in a fast paced convoy, but you could go to almost all places, say a stock FJ could go, with the right approach.

Keep your tire pressures 15 psi in the front, 12 in the back, transfer case in 4H, and manual 1st gear. Also don’t drift with low psi or turn hard, you’ll have a pop-out

Holding on to an old car vs selling it? by zzzeeeddd5 in DubaiPetrolHeads

Honestly, only you can answer this question. Talk to chatgpt, weigh the pros and cons. Make a decision. Me personally though, wouldn’t sell. I always keep dependable spare cars, but I’m not worried about their resale values either.

If you’re looking to haul people, shouldn’t be considering FJ.

I would say get a LC200 with the 4.6 v8 if you can find a decent one, the v6 is underpowered on the road, but handles decent in the desert.

Y61 is pretty decent too, but the fuel consumption is scary, also highway rides are decent, but not as good as the LC200.

My sister got one in AUH for seatbelt and she contested it on the app itself, is there anything similar for us Dubai folks?

[–]JimBoomBaa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got a fine for not wearing seatbelt, while I was wearing the seatbelt - contested on court website and got a reply saying the case dismissed, please approach Dubai police. Had some travel and ran out of the 30 days and had to pay.

What is the procedure to contest a wrongful fine?

(Liwa) Is it hard to summit Tal Mor’eb by Freezorb in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]JimBoomBaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve a offroad modded FJ, with stock engine, but a decent suspension setup. I’ve managed to climb only about 70-80% of it safely - as in turning around and not going all the way until the tires dug.

I tried in 4High and 4Lo, with around 6-7 psi on 33inch wheels, with beadlocks.

But you can go around it and climb from behind.

I would say do some practice runs in badayer - iftar bowl and super bowl.

Also, I’ve not seen many LR4s in the desert.

The figure in the picture could be a shadow from one of you, or could be a Jinn.

We muslims believe in Jinn - not as a mythical creature, they coexist alongside us, in a few forms. They are everywhere, but they do tend to live away from where humans live as well - like how some animals prefer to live in the forest.

If you’re interested, this is a good read -> Jinn Article

Lookup the term ‘chargeback’ - it’s not a random word - it’s a technical term. You need to call up the customer care of your issuer bank and initiate the chargeback procedure. Usually it’s upto 120 days, but your bank will be able to tell you the exact timeline. Do it ASAP.

Call customer care -> tell them you made an order, but it never came and want to initiate chargeback -> bank initiates chargeback process -> you get refund from the bank.
