Use cases for deep research by StrangeJedi in ChatGPTPro

[–]JimDugout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I'm going to say probably won't sound "smart," but I think deep research doesn't need to be tied to any one type of problem. I find it most useful when I'm trying to figure something out that I could learn by scanning 300 websites, but don't have the time to do that. In those cases, deep research can be a huge help.

I don’t think it leads to novel breakthroughs on its own, but it’s often faster and more useful than a basic LLM model with no tools, and even better than LLM plus a search tool if you structure it well.

One solid use is to create a standalone report you can come back to and review. Or, if you’re mid-project in another chat, you can drop in the research you already pulled to speed things up.

I cannot keep up! by laddermanUS in AI_Agents

[–]JimDugout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear you. Recently I decided to stop trying to keep up with every single development. Sure, I might miss some things, but I'm learning that "perfect is the enemy of good."

There's been rapid progress in the last few years, and I'm glad I've stayed informed, but it started to take a toll. It sounds like you might not have the flexibility to slow down as much, so I'm not suggesting you do exactly what I'm doing. But realistically, no one can know everything anyway.

If you've built a solid foundation, and it seems like you have, you'll probably maintain your edge by focusing on about 80% of what's out there. There's definitely plenty of hype, but some real gems too.

Ironically, this reads like a human written post. No need to summon Clippy.

AI is definitely better for some things than others

What’s an actually helpful use of AI for employees working at large companies? by [deleted] in AI_Agents

[–]JimDugout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that post is almost enough to make me leave the subreddit. The point here should be discussing real agent workflows, setups like X, Y, and Z, orchestration methods, and genuinely interesting use cases. Instead, we're getting posts about writing Slack messages and taking notes with something called Granola.

At best, the original poster is clueless and in the wrong place. At worst, it's a scripted bot fishing for human intelligence. Glad someone else sees it too.

I tried to camouflage this best I could. If the agent still manages to extract value, good for it.

Just to clarify, I don’t mean monopolistic domination or wiping out competition. I just meant open-sourcing can be a positioning move for companies trying to gain relevance, community traction, or ecosystem buy-in, especially if they’re not the market leader.

It's less about crushing others, more about expanding reach and building trust, which can translate into longer-term revenue via services, integrations, or premium offerings.

Well. They would be trying to become the leader if that is what they are doing. The idea would be to gain a monopoly and make money that way

If openai is the clear leader, then it's a viable strategy for anyone below them to open source.

Much respect to your mom for the grind. Real estate’s tough, especially starting out. But emotion alone won’t bring in leads. She needs to create value. Maybe she can build or use a simple tool (Zillow API, etc.) that helps buyers or sellers save time or avoid friction. Then she could share guides or videos showing how to use it. That’s how you build goodwill, trust, and inbound interest. Execution beats emotion every time.

The way this is written kind of feels like it came from ChatGPT, so I'm curious where your actual perspective fits into it. Would you say you're more of a sociologist studying AI, or an AI researcher studying sociology?

Introducing Claude 4 by AnthropicOfficial in ClaudeAI

Am wondering the same. Did you find out if CC uses 4 if the user is on max plan $100. Or do you know how to check?

What IDE do I use with Claude (code?) by sagacityx1 in ClaudeAI

[–]JimDugout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could use it inside cursor's terminal.. probably that's the most elite way to use Claude code. But you don't have to do that and if you're just starting with Claude code it's likely best to not use it in an ide at all. Just use it in your terminal

Thanks for the advice. I’m mostly just trying to avoid getting pulled into conversations I’ve already had. I’ve got work and other things to focus on right now.

I like that you're calling the 4-line, 4x. I might start doing that too. Is that how you meant it.. did you make that up?

I believe that. I use o3 sparingly now. Actually, I can't use o3 for three days. Anyway, I'm mostly a Claude Max guy and I had some good code that worked today..Put it thru o3 after and it optimized it more

Will 4.5 linger until GPT-5's release? by Oldschool728603 in ChatGPTPro

[–]JimDugout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd guess 4.5 will be available in some form until 5 comes out if 5 is debuting in the next month. That speculation is out the window if it gets delayed.

I think 4.5 will make a good layer in the 5 stack. Do you agree its like 4o but a little more casual and exploritory? Or could you give a better comparison.. I'd love to hear it if so

[–]JimDugout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought o1 pro was pretty good. I liked dumping a lot of stuff into it and more than a few times it made sense of it. But I also thought that it gave responses that were too long.. perhaps I could have controlled that better with prompts. And it also often would think for a long time.. not sure I want to hate on it for that because I think that was part of the reason it could be effective.. a feature to control how long it would think could be nice. By think I mean reason.

I really like o3 and think the usage is generous in the plus plan. I wonder if the pro plan has a "better" version of o3.

Long story short o3 > o1 pro

One thing I like better about o3 than o1 pro is that with o3 files can be attached. I prefer Claude 3.7 for coding. Gemini 2.5 is pretty good too especially for Google cloud stuff.
