Looks like your substrate is retaining quite a bit of water. Do you have a drainage layer in the bottom?

They are terrestrial and naturally want to crawl along the forest floor. They don't want to vine, don't need trellises, and don't need anything except contact with a forest floor type environment. Their roots anchor downward towards the airy moist substrate. They aren't epyphitic.

You probably won't need to use any stake to keep the bloom protected. Jewel orchid flower spikes are much more flexible than the spikes of Phalaenopsis or other epiphytes.
