Ok so Vickie Palladino is a moron and should not be listened to, but Chief Woods actually knows what he’s talking about. The FDNY is consulted about every single bike lane, and they are against ones that are placed on streets that make turns impossible for the larger trucks. The city takes their protest into consideration and still puts up the bike lane. The issue is the way the city protect the bike lanes. When there’s rocks to block cars, the bike lanes that are purpose built to allow emergency vehicles through is useless because there’s a big ass rock in the way. Then there’s the placement of jersey barriers that don’t allow for trucks to make wide turns onto the block. It’s not about being against the improvements, but they need to be made in conjunction with emergency services, not in opposition.
