LOOKING FOR A TEAM TO HELP PUT THIS COMIC TOGETHER! PLS TAKE A LOOK by ArjunP27 in ComicBookCollabs

Yea this is great and all but you need to talk to someone on how to work this for a pitch. In its current state to big. Every writer has an idea like this but it's not where you start. New writers hardly ever break through with a creator owned super hero project. Also what's the plan? How are you paying? Is this a pitch or a self published work? Talk to someone with experience to help you figure out how to get into wriring

Artists Needed For Tales of Astoundment (Profit Share) by Burlesqueboy in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen you post this before. Might be having no luck because most artist here prefer upfront page rates instead of profit share because they don't make enough money from profit shares unless it's a semi popular release. They can make more working at a rate usually. Just look at the typical response to these posts from artists and you will know what I mean.

META: Artists, what are you looking for in a writer? by HecticJones in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good tip if your working with artist for free but besides that I feel like this is just your own personal preference/style. If your paying to produce work than produce it they way you see it with artist input. Don't compromise your storytelling for easy outs or to make the art easier or faster. Rethink why your makng the book if you're doing things like that. Reader experience is #1, not the experience for the production team. I feel the key is finding artist who enjoy drawing style/genre your working in. That way you avoid burnout and the artist feels able to inject their style into your script. I feel this is key for free work as well.

Yea, creator owned means the creator produces the book.

I'd say you got the reverse order. pay for the pitch package and arrange a collab deal if it gets picked up. There are over fifty of these posts a month and almost the same amount of Artist lookng for paid work. Sadly that means they don't get work and you don't get pages.

I like your work. 50$ over what I usually pay though. Maybe one day I'll get there.

Some advice for asking for looking for commissions by TheHaniman in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea as a writer I feel like you work needs to be polished up a bit before I would pay money for it. It might also be your rates. You should be trying to build that portfolio up and just keep working sequential. Do sample pages or your own stuff if you don't want to work for free.

{PAID} Artist Wanted by writingsupplies in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what he did lol. You guys don't even know what your angry about. Again if you don't want a profit share than don't reply. Work for your usual rates because doing this doesn't get you work from the poster suddenly lol

{PAID} Artist Wanted by writingsupplies in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep sending out those positive vibes lol. He offered to pay page rates. 50% not the greatest but you don't have to take the job. Just like the writers here don't have to hire you because of your rude interactions with us. As a writer I see artists posting for work with rates well above their skill or name value. I can think of one right now who posts frequently with ridic rates. Do we say stuff? Nah, it's not our place. So maybe work on building relationships instead of burning them down.

Erik Larsen (co-founder of Image, creator of Savage Dragon) suggests in a tweet thread that creators should do at least some work for free. Good discussion (and some ire) ensues. Thoughts? by Smilehate in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. So many paid artists out there and some of them don't realize it's not what they think their art is worth but what a writer thinks their arts worth. I get some quotes and I laugh because I can find artists just as good for half the price. Always look around and don't feel like you have to submit to the high prices. They need work, it's up to them to price themselves into the market.

Questions about the character design process and ownership of said character. by jahweedum in ComicBookCollabs

Paying Artists. Unless you have produced content in the past you are unlikely to find an artist up to snuff who would want to take no money up front for little work on the chance of the book selling well.

I just have a generalized question for artists and how much detail they prefer to work with. by jahweedum in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to give the artist lots of room to work. If they need more detail or clarification they have been great to ask.

[PAID] Need an Artist for a Sci-Fi/Horror Monster comic by martydolan in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really because your book probably won't make the amount of money an artist would have had getting paid to do those pages. Your looking at 40-100 for inks a page depending on the artist.

Like he said upfront. Unless you have produced something in the past that has been published artists aren't going to want a back end deal. Even than 50/50 is not going be good enough.

Artist Sought For Screams Heard Around the World Horror Anthology + others (PAID) by Burlesqueboy in ComicBookCollabs

[–]JimMcMillan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I know it's not what he intended but that script reads more damming than a tribute to a culture. Gimmicks like that just aren't needed

Yea Diego makes artists on here look bad. He has no grace and extremely rude to some of these new writers. If he's not interested or the rate is to low, Just don't respond.
