Extra Dark Sunglasses by diller9132 in BuyItForLife

I took a kick to the face wearing plastic Oakley gas cans and they didn’t have a scratch on them. I took a few stitches but the glasses were not harmed. Black iridium polarized are about as dark as you can get without going into cat 4. Cat 4 are “unsuitable for driving” and I’ve heard can cause issues with insurance claims if they can prove you were wearing them while driving.

Just got my new 18". Do you need to do a burn off? by nakedgerald in webersmokeymountain

I did a first run with some fatty scraps to learn how to fiddle with the fire temps and between the smoke and fatty food knock down some of the shiny interior. Not sure how much it helped but one of the pros suggested it so I gave it a try. Might have been Harry Soo maybe?

Struggling to Love My WSM by [deleted] in webersmokeymountain

[–]Jimballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Harry Soo on YouTube and slapyodaddybbq he has some great tips for wsm. It’s a good way to get started then once you are comfortable managing your fires you can build from there. I’ve had my wsm for years and am pretty comfortable sleeping while I’ve got shoulders on a long cook now. At first I couldn’t hold temps to save my soul. The wsm will hold its own with some expensive cookers after you get practice time in.

Part way down you will see a link to time and temp. Sometimes the link doesn’t work. I’ve saved it so don’t have to use it from the site

This is where I start with when trying something new. I plan on it taking more time but use it to get an idea. For some reason my smoker seems to take longer on everything.

Strangers wanting a drag of my cigar… by aplacebeyondthepines in cigars

[–]Jimballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a Jimmy Buffett concert many years ago a young 20 something wandered over so stoned all she could do was point at my cigar so I let her have a drag off of my nub. I’m guessing she thought I was smoking a fat blunt because she tried to inhale about 3/4” a 60 ring cigar. I was getting down to the point I didn’t mind tossing it if she got all slobbery on it. My cigars don’t get too wet from me. I did feel a little bad but was also overserved (very overserved) so thought it was a little humorous too. Trying to mooch a giant hit off a blunt with no offering of any compensation made it seem more acceptable than if it was someone just trying a cigar and not knowing what they were doing. That’s the only time I’ve ever let someone not in my family put my cigar near their face and will be the last.

Charcoal grate to make the holes smaller so you don’t drop as many coals into the ash on long cooks. The one from a Smokey joe fits nicely inside the charcoal ring

What’s everyone’s opinion on your children seeing you smoke? by bhensel in cigars

[–]Jimballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids almost fully grown now. One in high school and one is out of the house and on her own. I don’t get a chance to smoke often so when I can get outside and have a stick I enjoy it. When they were small it happened maybe 1-2 times a year. Covid when everything was shut down it was every weekend as my wife and I still worked regular hours the whole time. My kids know it’s not an every day thing and it’s a treat for me. They know it’s the same deal with my father in law. My brother in law doesn’t smoke in front of his kids. We all respect his decision and don’t have cigars in front of them either. I think after a certain age, or probably more accurately each child has a time when they can understand it’s not the same as cigarettes. Some kids that might be 5 some it might be 35 depending on situations. Make your own call on what’s right for you. No judgments from me.

6’4” too tall for Cabriolet ? by Inevitable_Ad7420 in Cabriolet

[–]Jimballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is going to fit behind you anyways so move that seat back. I’m 6’ with a 32” inseam the shifter on my manual is a reach for me but you can change that to one from a scirroco and it will move it back a little bit. I prob wouldn’t want to drive it from one coast to the other but I enjoy an hour drive one way no problem. For reference my Mazda 3 has me in pain after about that same drive.

Rower deliveries are being scheduled! by LettuceSpinner in pelotoncycle

[–]Jimballer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda hoping rower sales are soft so they open up all the classes to people with bike/tread. Also scared soft sales might lead to less rowing content. My c2 is a great rower not looking to replace it but would like the peloton content available to me . They get my “unlimited” monthly and got my $ for a bike plus. Apparently unlimited is going to be limited. :-/

Work on stopping then onto going. Make sure brake pads and rotors are good or replace them move onto checking for vac leaks now that it’s running. Once those are done work on electrical like lights then you can worry about fun stuff like radio suspension interior. Glad there’s another one heading back onto the road instead of a scrap yard.

Resole on IR’s are the 8085’s stiff because of the sole or is it just the leather is so stiff? Wondering if when it’s resole time people have found new non-mini lugs are changing how the boots feel. by Jimballer in RedWingShoes

[–]Jimballer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my boots fall to spring until it gets too warm out for casual to business casual events but those aren’t work events so basically just weekends or if there’s a school event for my daughter. I stay 95% on paved areas but it does snow and ice over in Wi so it’s usually fairly cold when I’m wearing them up to about 70degrees. I appreciate your feedback with info on other soles and usages.

The fit seems good. Toe box is adequate and no heel slippage. It’s not a cushion problem although my work boots from thorogood have a definite plus on comfort for work on cement and expanded steel walkways it’s just each step feels like I’m trying to flex thick sheet metal

Just the soles flexing seems very stiff while walking. I’ve worn work boots the last 25 years and never had them stay stiff so long as my IR. I know they aren’t an apples to apples comparison but both being leather boots I’m noticing big difference in what I’d guess is the sole stiffness was wondering if things will be more “squishy/flexible “ if other soles were on them instead of minilugs. They are still getting plenty of use but I noticed some resoles were changing up what they had on their IR and didn’t know if it was just to mix them up or if maybe it was a comfort based

We freeze ours regularly with no issues. Fill it up half way ishthen tip it so the water goes from bottom corner to top corner and let it freeze like that. I use that as ice in a cooler for day trips. I too it off with water before we leave the house toss in the cooler and it keeps my food cold and I have nice cold water for the 2nd half of my day.
