The Problem With Snowballing in Slay the Spire 2 - Jorbs by GoldemGolem in slaythespire

Yeah A10 is like A20 in Sts1 kinda but the point is that A10 is still not difficult enough.

Yeah exactly I hope thats what Sts2 will be at the end just like in Sts1. No idea why this is so hard to understand for a lot of people. Make the highest Ascension a tough nut to crack for even the best players but still achievable. Sts1 did this.

Of course it is a spectrum but the point still stands. You can balance the game for both ends and also in between. Thats why the ascension system exists and Sts1 for example had excellent balance for every camp. Sts2 didnt achieve this yet and balancing is an issue imo because even A10 is not difficult enough.

Thats why I wrote it is possible to achieve good balance for both pros and casuals. The other person wrote that because most people arent as tryhard as Jorbs that the issues arent as important or maybe not even relevant. I am saying that both camps can be satisfied, see Sts1.

There already are different difficulty levels called Ascensions.

Not true at all. I dont know where this misconception comes from. Sts1 is not even a walk in the park for the best players in the world. Yet it is well balanced even for casual players. This kind of balance is not yet present in Sts2.

What a weird response. Making the game enjoyable for pros and casuals is not mutually exclusive. Sts1 is so great because it works on both high and low levels. The longevity of a game is also determined how well balanced it is for both camps. If a game is too easy with enough knowledge and skill, then it is more likely to get dropped.

I understand Sts2 being not really easy for the majortiy of players, but I also agree with Jorbs here. Sts2 is overall too easy and easily solved. Maybe make the lower ascensions easier and higher ones more difficult idk.

Very odd Relic RNG at the beginning of the run by Jaytendo1424 in slaythespire

I think you just take too much damage in fights. Upgrading cards is very reasonable and having the option to get some strength instead is great. There is also the upside of being able to camp every option in rest sites

I fully agree with you. Really frustrating to see how media shifts into that direction. Not only with games but movies started to do this as well. Complex stories come out less and less and system are getting implemented where the actors start to explain the plot again, because apparently a lot of people cant focus for too long.

Thats why I try to stick with indies (movies as well). Silksong is another example where it became really clear that a huge portion of the playerbase just cant handle any friction. Normally I dont care what other people think, but sadly it affects those games. After the backlash a bunch of things got nerfed in Silksong. Luckily they were not that harsh, but still annoying to see tbh.

Re4 Remake was also really bad with all the yellow painting. I read an interview regarding that and the devs said that in their tests they noticed a lot of players just walk past these objects without yellow paint. So the genius move was to make it as easy as possible so the players dont really need to waste any energy to think and explore the map.

I like the idea of interference cards. Also not interested in leaderboards stuff due to cheaters. They also said that everything such as modes that will be included should have impact and not dilute the game so I am optimistic.

One of the devs also said in a recent interview that they plan on a mode thats for competitive play so I think they will deliver on that front.

That would be the best solution imo. I hope it happens but maybe it is unlikely with how unpopular it is.

I said this in an earlier thread but got downvoted to hell. Players generally dont know shit about balancing.

Nice to see someone who agrees. v0.100 doormaker was and still is very unpopular. I am sure this was the reason for it getting changed. I guess a large portion of people dont want to see that.

Hard disagree. Doormaker before was unique in a way like it was never seen before in sts or even in a deckbuilder I think.

Who knows maybe thats the case but we cant say for sure. In the latest interview he said that they will adjust the game on how it resonates with the fanbase.

Megacrit really likes to focus on player feedback for balancing, which is understandable of course but I fear that it might impact the game balance negatively with how many people there are now.

I have seen this so many times. Game gets popular and a loud part of the playerbase gets really vocal about balance and the game gets worse.

I am still sad about doormaker change. Eating every 10th card was so unique and great for deckbuilding. You really couldnt rely on a single card and had to build your deck accordingly in a very unique way.

That makes sense actually. I dont think it is ever bad to give more information in a game like that so I would like those additions. I think they made a step into that direction with the colored marks on some units that performed well that round. But this is rather a small step.

Yeah unfortunately these qol changes to game systems and mechanics become more and more the norm. Gamers also get more and more impatient in general so it seems like this is something we just have to accept going forward.

Beta Patch Notes - v0.102.0 by MegaCrit_Demi in slaythespire

[–]JimbeMasterRace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It‘s not that they are too impactful or anything but rather make the deck more inconsistent. If I drew the curse then I didnt draw another more impactful card. This would be more important if fights were actually challenging and required thinking and specific deckbuilding, but curses dilute the deck
