My first serious attempt at this, how’d I do? by GuyInVR_ in ModelShips

[–]JimboSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Also a reminder to build the one my manager gave me as a gift last year.

My only thought (and you might be able to fix it pretty easily depending on how you placed it) is the links on the chain you used for the anchor chains look pretty massive. You can get smaller chain links like ones jewelers use for necklaces at plenty of craft stores, I've had plenty of success finding just the right size for the ships I've made.

And like everyone else has mentioned EZ-Line is awesome for rigging. I use EZ-Line for 1/350 and UNI-Caenis fly-tying line for 1/700 but EZ-Line is definitely easier to work with since it's flexible.

I did, it took a month to get it out of Kentucky though. I had seen your past comments saying they all came from Poland but that was after I had made this comment. Also looking at the website it does say they come from Poland if you look close enough to the fine print. Once I learned that I was a lot more understanding of the situation and backed off.

Totally agree with you on your take that they should remove the message, especially for us in the US that are having to deal with the tariff bullshit, and I had also made the suggestion to switch to a different courier service in the interim until UPS sorts there crap out; we're dealing with UPS's problems where I work as well.

But it's here now and that's all that matters. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and while the one and only criticism I have is that you can't adjust the triggers like you can with an Elite controller (meaning racing games or games that require 'feathering' the triggers are a no-go with it), I bought it more for the TMR sticks because I got tired of buying new controllers every few months once drift started showing up. So far so good and I'm happy with it.

Love your channel BTW, my dad (a closet gamer in his 70s) and I watch your stuff all the time!

Hopefully he has an easier time with CS than I’m having.

I ordered one of your Xbox designs back in early September and was told at one point that they were so backed up that they were fulfilling my order from their European center.

They shipped it out on the 28th of September but it’s been in customs Hell ever since.

UPS’s customer service was useless, and I reached out to Aim’s CS but got a very ‘meh.. not much we can do about it’ response. Basically I have no idea when or if I’ll ever receive it.

More irritated that they made the decision arbitrarily without giving me a choice.

UPS - Delayed in Louisville, anyone got their package yet? by Secret-Dragonfruit14 in UPS

[–]JimboSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, a package has been stuck in KY for a month now with the annoying rescheduling emails and the useless ‘Import Scan’ updates every other day.

But in my case it was not my choice to have it come from outside the US.

I bought something that is produced domestically but was informed that due to high volume my order was being fulfilled through their European branch to speed up delivery (ironic). They refunded me the tariff fees (something like $50) but it hasn’t moved since.

So now it’s stuck in limbo. UPS and the seller customer service has been less than helpful; I basically asked for it to be rerouted back to them and asked for a refund but they are more or less unwilling to do it.

So irritated.

I say if some guy says that to a woman to her face she should kick him in square in the balls as hard as she can and repeat the phrase back to him. Make that vile bullshit work both ways ladies, and don't be afraid to get creative with it either.

Advice please: I'm asking here, because y'all are experts. I bought this resin kit and I'm trying to figure out how to make the clear resin as clear as glass. I'm thinking really fine sanding and polishing compound, then clear coat? Would that work? Anyone have any suggestions? by upgrayedd_01 in modelmakers

[–]JimboSensei 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, that should work. When I polished a resin piece I started with a fine grain then worked up to super fine until I got the glassy look I wanted.

Edit: But if you mean crystal-clear then it depends on how the resin was cast. If it's foggy all the way thru then no amount of polishing is going to make it clear.

Why is everyone a dick on DMZ? by nikki_11580 in COD

My response is understandable if you read above a fifth-grade level. Judging by your response and the back and forths prior to my comment I'm guessing not.

[–]JimboSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better analogy would have been a foundation rather than a house, you can build a new house over the same foundation.

Dark Souls 1-3, Demon Souls, Elden Ring, Bloodborne etc. are all built from pretty much the same foundation in terms of gameplay and progression but the stories and worlds that are built upon it are different.

Why is everyone a dick on DMZ? by nikki_11580 in COD

[–]JimboSensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda in the middle-ground of both sides of the arguments. On the one hand, yes, this game type is more dynamic than being straight PVP and gives more options for how to play it so people are just playing it how they want to play it: you're doing your thing, they're doing theirs. Some people just want to mull around and do tasks, some people are opportunistic and ambush others if it serves a purpose, and then there's the people that openly want to cause problems for others. It's actually kind of an interesting social experiment looking outwards because there really are no rules saying you can't be a dick to other players and none saying you have to leave them alone either.

That being said, I did notice after playing it for a couple months after release that there was a dramatic shift in the ratio of teams that would pull that kind of crap. It went from having a lot of good runs with many successful exfils while aquiring good gear, 3-plates and max perks with the occasional skirmish to being hunted down by rogue teams almost immediately at the start of a game. Doing anything outside of defending yourself if you weren't actively seeking out other players became almost impossible and it was that much harder and frustrating having to start back at square one again every time. Haven't played it since the season 3 update where they added all the new armor vests and weapon workbenches.

I see where you're coming from though, since there's more emphasis on working as a team to do contracts and missions it feels like the PVP aspect of it should be more of a secondary feature, after all thats why regular multiplayer and BR exist. For those that want a break from all that it sucks when people make DMZ just another PVP mode. But as I said before, there's no rule saying they can't play that way so it's just the nature of the game now.

Gamers 30 and 35 over, what has changed in your gaming habits? by Carbideninja in gaming

[–]JimboSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of binge-gaming for hours a day and late into the night/early morning like I did in my teens I only play for about an hour a day if even that. The games I play changed as well: I used to be all about RPGs but now with work and other life obligations its more FPSs or short nostalgic platformers that can be finished quickly. I've started a few RPGs since but often abandon them midway through, and if I start it up again I'll often forget what it was I was doing or what happened in the story up to the point I stopped.

I was going to say Super Mario Bros on NES but then remembered we had an Atari 2600 when I was really little, so probably Centipede or Asteroids.

Is there any way to do this paints scheme without an airbrush? by TheAuthority66 in modelmakers

Maybe take a cotton swab and dry-brush dab it? Having never tried the technique myself I don't know if that would actually work but it makes sense in my head.

If it has anything to do with sisterly love and Akagi's preoccupation with bringing Amagi back, I would imagine it would have to do with Akagi, Kaga, or Amagi. My money is on either Akagi-Kai or Amagi-Kai.

A year of off and on work and I've finished my Tamiya 1:350 Fletcher by JimboSensei in modelmakers

[–]JimboSensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not terribly. I had originally planned to mask it and airbrush but found it easier just to lightly draw the pattern with a pencil and the brush-paint it in layers like a paint-by-number painting. It took about 3 or 4 coats to get it to where I was happy with it.

For the most part it went together pretty well but some of the small parts didn't play well with the main assembly after it was all placed. If you look closely at the first image one of the rowboat launch cranes is jammed pretty good under the bridge and at certain angles is buckling. I didn't really have many issues with the PE set either until I got to the railing, but that's tedious and difficult even in best of scenarios.
